Title: Dutch ip-256sl build
Post by: kuipino on October 07, 2014, 02:45:42 PM
Hi, I am also starting a ip-256sl build, most parts are ordered and should start arriving soon. The XMI parts are ordered from Bert at xmiplay. The response on emails was fast until the last one after the payment, after the payment i got a email that the payment was received and the frame would be send off in three days that was on 22 september. After that no reaction on emails very strange.  :(
But I am still confident that it will be okay.

I doubted a lot about the gear/groupset i wanted to use, so many choices 1/2/3x10, 1/2/3x11,  cassette and chainrings. So i decided to start with a old groupset i have the XTR m960 groupset (3x9) and see which gears i really need on a 29er.
The frame will be UD glossy and the rest of the parts 3k glossy.
Buildlist:

I hope to post soon some pictures of the frame and wheels.

Nice, another Dutch IP-256SL.
Don't worry about XMIPlay. They have a good repuation. Did you get a tracking number ?

I'm wondering what you have to pay to the customs. I had to pay 56,80 EUR :(

Looking forward to your pictures. (Ben benieuwd naar je foto's).

No i didn't, but i think (hope) that it's taking longer because the frame is UD glossy and the wheels 3k glossy.

The first parts arrived today and i think they look cool, added the weights to the buildlist.

Did I see correctly that your integrated handlebar is only 206gr? and it is 660cm wide?
What is the length of stem?
In the past those were quite a bit heavier.

The mystery about no reaction of Bert is solved apparently there was a chinese holiday. The frame is shipped tomorrow and the wheels next week.

The stem length is 12 cm and yes the weight is 206gr.

Thats one reason why i didnt order the UD gloss, extra wait for it to be painted.

That is quite a long stem  - 120mm
Should you have gone up a frame size?
Awesome weight for that pair of pieces(much heavier in the past)
Will be interesting to see your build with the integrated stem/handlebar.

A frame size up from 21"  is not possible with a Chinese carbon frame.
I did a lot of measurements and 120mm should be the right length, i have a tall upper body and like to sit deep. ( correct english?)

Did you removed the cable guides? Can you tell us how your rear shiftercable install was?

You mean this:
No i didn't remove it. I have seen ip-256 frames  with guiding tubes but mine didn't have them.
I did switch the  derailleur cables to get a better curves at the bar. So the cables cross in the down tube.

Inside the chainstay is some kind of tube but there is no way to see it, if you put the innercable in the little hole in bracket it comes automatic out the end of the chainstay so there must be some tube.
little hole left bottom corner:

Strange: apperently xmiplay had two different styles of frames. Is there à possibility of running the full outer cable trough the frame. And how is the shifting with the bare cables through the frame?
Title: Re: Dutch ip-256sl build
Post by: MTB2223 on November 08, 2014, 12:54:07 PM
There's only one style of the IP-256. Only the guide tubes were missing.
If you want to run the full cable through your frame, like me, you have to drill out the cable stops for the rear derailleur.

I meant the frame seems to be delivered with different inner tubes. (With or without) when running bare cables through the frame, i would prefer to have inner tubes. The angle the cable has to make on the guide sleeves of the BB seems quite unnatural witch could effect the shifting.

There are no inner tunes. The white tubes are only to guide the bare cable through the frame and then you have to remove the white tubes.

The guide on the bottom of the bottom bracket is only to guide the bare cable around the bottom bracket and prevent the cable wearing the frame. It stays there.

My bottom bracket guide plate is only guiding the cable for the front derraileur. The cable for the rear derailleur is running through the full outer hose and I guide it above the bottom bracket.

Oké now i get it, thanks! Im still not sure rather i'll run the bare cable or drill out the stops. Guess i have à few weeks to decide. Maybe i'll need your experience by that time ;-)
