Title: Power of the Forum to find Frame info???? 27.5+ FS
Post by: 325racer on May 12, 2016, 11:31:10 PM
I'm trying to convince my father that he needs to replace is 20+ year old Pro-Flex for a modern bike.  He doesn't want to spend the kind of money that a new Main Stream bike is, frankly I'm not sure he wants to spend what a China bike would cost, but I'm trying to convince him.  As you know I already built up a full rigid 057, so I'm no stranger to the Carbon build a bike deal, but I did a TON of research before that frame choice, but now I just don't have the time to do that much web surfing soooo...

I'm hoping the community can help narrow some choices down.  In this thread I'm hoping to get info on 27.5+ Full Squish Frame options, I'm going to repost in regular 27.5 for those options also.

CS-M04  http://xmcarbonspeed.com/Productinfo.asp?f=1438, which I'm not sure what it's based on.

That 27.5+ frame looks like a good choice to me.

I think I want more like 120mm rear travel and some of the other geometry.

Did a little more digging and found that the Lamere frame is actually a Fat Frame, maybe with a "narrow" rear triangle, I got some info from Peter about his new Fat Frame and aside from being wide enough for a 5ish" rear tire, the geometry looks really good and might fit the bill for building out a 27.5+ bike.

Now to get my father on some other similar bikes, Santa Cruz Hightower and Rocky Mtn Pipeline to see how the overall fit/feel is.  If those seem to work we will hopefully proceed with a build.

Currently thinking, Pike Fork with Boost spacing, Monarch shock, Race Face Cranks, 1x11 XT groupset, Reverb Stealth, 800 mm bars (maybe 780), 35mm stem (length and clamp), Carbonspeed 50mm rim, Boost front hub, 177 rear, WTB Trailblazers.

I'm estimating about 26lbs and about $4k, if he wants to be closer to $3500, then some parts will change and get heavier, so closer to 28lbs.

Consider some of the Ican frames.  I think they take plus tires.

Sounds like you need an Ican P8

At the time, the Ican wasn't really out there yet.  He ended up with a Santa Cruz Hightower 27.5+.

I think an Ican P9 would be the choice, but not sure if it will take plus tires.
