Re: IIIPRO E4 4-Piston Hydraulic MTB Brakes - Are they to be trusted? The big difference versus XT (if nothing else) is going to be lever ergonomics and feel. Those are big, high angle two-finger levers. Everything about Deore/SLX/XT/XTR is designed around single finger braking and they have good ergonomics with a nice wide lever surface at a shallow angle.

Re: Frames that fit 200mm 57mm stroke shock (Bronson V2)
Since no one seemed to know I did find one.

The FM10 seems to fit. I would rather a 27.5 honestly and not a 29/27.5 plus, but I can live with it, I think. It seems pretty decent not sure what other options there are. I wish something had a screw in bottom bracket interface. BSA has never let me down. Pressfit just seems like a PITA

Thread-together press fit BBs (Wheels Mfg for example) are a good solution.

Re: Carbonda FM-1306A a 69° Hardtail Nice! I’ve been thinking about one of these for a flat bar build that would be mainly for road and gravel with only occasional light (but rooty and eroded) trail. Probably thinking rigid fork and gravel rims/tires. But would love to see more of what others are doing with these!

Re: Maxxis tires on Aliexpress? You have to be careful with Ali tires because some of them are factory rejects with misaligned knobs, excess rubber (thin but tall membranes along center line most often), problems with the mold (knobs looking like someone sliced them in half and glued them back together misaligned) or warped casings/bead.

Hard to say how big a problem this is with Maxxis tires since like Shimano/SRAM parts these are often diverted from OEM supplies meant for building up bikes with at the factory, and so not rejects. But it does happen sometimes.

Once in a while you’ll find a good deal, usually on stuff like exotic fat bike tires that aren’t available in the USA (Kevlar bead Chaoyang Big Daddy for example; in the USA they’re mostly wire bead OEM only). But for high end MTB tires you’re usually better off paying the small — if any — premium to buy from European vendors like BikeInn and get something you know for sure passed QA checks at the factory and hasn’t sat on a warehouse shelf for 2-3+ years dry rotting the rubber.

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts Lots of shocks do fine with a 2-position or no lever at all but on the higher end, those tend to have at least a LSC compression dial (example Fox Float X — even the Performance model, which isn’t really any different from the Elite or Factory internally, has a dial stem hidden under the plastic cap on the piggyback that can be used with a 3D printed dial or Fox aftermarket dial though the latter has been “sold out” for a long time, probably to prevent people from buying used shocks to do this mod).

Generally speaking, 3-position is better because it allows for a third option other than Open/Descend or Climb. A well tuned shock ought to spend most of its time in the middle of the LSC range rather than a more on/off setup.

If you don’t do a lot of long intense descents, and get a good tune, this isn’t a huge issue.

Re: Carbonda Cfr 1056
According to Carbonda's QC, this is totally normal. Is there any owner of a 1056 that has headtube that looks like this on the inside?

Thanks!

The inside of the head tube on my FM1002 isn’t exactly like that but I can see the similarities in the manufacturing technique. Definitely some surface “wrinkles”/protruding edges of carbon sheets and excess resin you wouldn’t expect to see in a branded frame but not quite as sharp edged as those seen in your picture.

It’s not as clean looking but likely has no structural effect at all. Just saves them some money to skip that level of obsessing over how it looks on the inside.

I really wouldn’t worry about it. What you thought might be a void is probably just a chip that separated from the excess surface resin. Doesn’t tell you anything about the interior structure of the frame.

You could probably even sand those prominent edges down a bit if they were rubbing on cables or something, and have zero issues from doing it.

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro" Yes, it can take a dual crown fork — Sherpa has been selling this configuration, and the A2C isn’t that different than spec.

180mm is max frame travel. 205x65mm is already the longest trunnion shock length/stroke available and you do *not* want to try a trunnion-to-eyelet adapter for a bike that takes this kind of punishment: it will absolutely break, and possibly take the mounting point with it. Plus there are multiple other reasons why this wouldn’t make sense anyway given the possible length/stroke combinations for those sizes of standard eyelet shock.

The swingarm would hit the frame with any longer stroke.

You could talk to Cachet Bikes about their DH variant frame with longer shock but I’m fairly sure that isn’t available direct from the factory. And Cachet’s web site gives me the impression it may not be available from them for a while yet (listed as out of stock).

Re: Unreadable Topic: "VeloBuild Headset Play Issue" This has happened before here with other threads.

My assumption was that it was a specific post that contained some kind of content that broke the HTML on a particular page but affecting multiple pages might mean something internal to the site, SMF forum engine, or the database it’s running on.

CT is running on a fairly outdated version of SMF, 2.0.7 — whereas the latest version is 2.1.3. Simply updating might fix this…

Re: Unreadable Topic: "VeloBuild Headset Play Issue" As I recall, things were pretty much just left that way. But the last time I recall was about a year ago.

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro"
I'll chime in here - so far, so good! No odd creaks or rattles, the bike is tons of fun to ride. I kept the float x on over the x2 and have been happy so far. Planning on trying 190 on the front to see if it jacks up the ride characteristics and will report back.

Only complaint is the paint...it'll chip if you look at it wrong. Seems like their paint job quality has gone down recently so it's probably worth the extra $$ to order it raw and take it to a local shop.

I do have to caveat that I've only had the frame since the late fall, it's been to the bike park twice and I've had it out on my local trails a dozen or so times...interested to see how it holds up over the next season and if I end up reaching for the 1003 over my Ripmo like I have been over this winter.

I’ll be making my own build thread soon (probably covering my latest 1002 changes in addition to the new 1003), but have definitely noticed that the paint is different on the 1003 versus the 1002. It’s more of a dark carbon-gray than matte black, with carbon texture visible through the paint which it isn’t on the 1002.

The front and rear frames made contact while I was unboxing (left side touches, right side doesn’t due to the asymmetric swingarm) and the paint immediately chipped off at that spot. I covered it up with a dab of matte black touch up paint so no big deal but it did show how fragile this semi-transparent coating is. Noticeably more so than the 1002 and that is already pretty easy to chip.

So it’s definitely not just you.

It’s almost like the 1003 came from a different designer and an entirely different production line than the 1001/1002. Bunch of small differences, like the press in headset and somewhat crude (but workable) tube in tube cable routing. Head tube ~15mm shorter in the same frame size.
