Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets
I've done a teardown of my broken LTWOO brifter to see what's inside. I have the part-1 video up right now on youtube. Interesting finds include that the hydraulic reservoir is a modular part that pops right out.

(What's inside a L-TWOO hydraulic lever? Teardown & anatomy of a failure)

I'm currently putting together a video demoing the rebuild and analyzing/explaining the shift mechanism (hopefully dropping this week), but the short of it is that the shift mechanism is pretty much identical in design to Campy Ultrashift (diagram attached). This is a bad thing IMO. Fundamentally, this is a friction shifter. To hold the cable in place, it uses a friction plate with indexing indents pushed up against the de-tensioning ratchet by a couple of spring washers. You adjust the friction with the screw in the back of the shifter. Shifting feels tough because you have to overcome the friction plate in addition to everything else. I also think it's not suitable for off-road use, where a bump can increase the tension on the cable and spontaneously advance the index, causing a mis-shift

It's more or less an exact copy of Campagnolo's Hydro Shifters internally. Having worked on the Campy shifters, I can say that even the modular hydro unit looks identical maybe except for a few minor details. I've been running Ultra Shift in many iterations and it has gotten better every time. The 12sp generation has super light and smooth action. If you can shift it comfortably in the drops very much depends on bar shape and hand size. I have no problem shifting these in the drops.
I've also never had issues with riding these offroad. Campy has been used by quite a few pros in CX back in the rim brake days. With all that said, I dunno what level of quality the LTWOO internals are. Copying stuff is one thing. Doing it well is another.

Re: SROAD lightweight cassettes
I wasn't pounding it, more like gentle taps! Once on the free hub I was able to slide it up and down, it's just really snug. I'm going to test it out in a bit and see how it rides.

Update: I took SRoad cassette for a 25 mile break-in ride. On the road, noise wasn't as noticeable and shifting was the about the same as my Shimano cassettes. Honestly I don't know if the reduced weight makes a big difference, but pedaling seemed responsive.

The snug fit is part of why I like this cassette better than cassettes made of single cogs. The whole cassette creates one interface area with the freehub rather than each cog on its own, therefore completely eliminating cassette bite. That being said, I can take it off my freehub by hand - no problem. No need to hit it with a hammer. My lightweight Novatec alloy freehub still looks like new while a Shimano cassette would already have created bite marks no matter how hard I tighten it down.

I'm using the original lockring. No issues. It just works.
As for noise. I don't get any unusual shifting noise. The clunk when the chain jumps onto the next cog is definitely louder because the cassette - being one piece of steel - inevitably acts as a resonance body much more than individual cogs. Particularly when paired with deep section wheels. So yes, it does create more noise. But I don't mind. As long as it's not some kind of rattling or bad indexing noise.

I do now have 3000k on my 12sp cassette with minimal wear marks. I like it a lot, so far. If only they had an 11-34 for 12sp. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
IMO, Elitewheel Edge. Not the cheapest, but they're 555€ shipped right now due to sales, which is insane value for 50mm wheels that weight less than 1400 grams.

I’m currently building a Velobuild VB099 for a friend. He chose LTWOO RX12 and Elite Wheels Edge.
I can confirm that these wheels are very nice indeed. Very light and absolutely true. I’m not a huge fan of the matte black. It looks cheaper than a nice UD finish, IMO. And I’m curious to see how well the in house hubs and the bearings hold up. But nevertheless these are very good value for money.

Re: Yishun R086-D Aero Road OK, so it's 15mm each for the top cap and the cable routing spacer, while the stem itself is 30mm tall, right? That makes a lot more sense. Thx!

Re: Yishun R086-D Aero Road I asked Yishun directly what the measurements for the front end components are.
Here's their answer for anyone who's interested:

"For R086-D carbon framesest, the cable cover height is 15.94mm, headset top cover height is 17-17.4mm.
Usually we will supply 1pc 5mm height and 1pc 10mm spacers to customer together.
Please kindly check attachment again ( ignore integrated handlebar in the picture ), you will understand it clearly.
We can supply extra 5mm or 10mm spacer to you again if you need."

So, like Patrick said, you basically need to add 3cm to the stack figure of a given frame size. That is where the cockpit goes - one piece or not.
Also, they told me that the minimum required seatpost insertion would be 1/3, which amounts to 11,5cm of 35cm. So keep that in mind to determine whether you can actually set up the required seat height for a given frame size.

Re: Velo Build R-099 Build Here’s a build I did for a friend.
I was overall very impressed by the quality of the frame.

The BB was nicely finished and I measured it to be consistently round and within spec. It seemed to have been machined to spec.

I did have the headset play issue. It’s really just the stupid compression ring making things complicated. One micro spacer solved the issue. I’m also very impressed by the bars. Routing was easy. Finish is nice. Very stiff. Too bad they don’t come in more sizes.

We had some issues with the seatpost slipping. I’ll probably have to add some tape. And I had to face the brake mounts. It was pretty laborious to get the thing rub free.
The discs were also not 100% true which didn’t help.

I’ll post my thoughts on the LTWOO RX12 in the respective thread. Some positives, some negatives. And I can’t get the RD to index flawlessly. Very annoying.

Final weight as pictured including pedals and cages is 8.6kg

Re: Are AliEx/open mold carbon bikes common in your area? Pretty uncommon in my area of Germany. Though the more premium options like Winspace and Seka are picking up. I did a 400k event this summer and I was one of two guys on open mold frames. And I got a lot of questions about it.

Mind you I finished top 20 so the bike clearly didn’t slow me down.

Re: Velo Build R-099 Build
Did you face the brake mounts yourself?
Do you have the proper tooling or how did you approach this?

No. I don't have a proper facing tool, unfortunately. I really only sanded it down carefully by hand and checked regularly if the adapter was properly flat on the frame surface. So I did not properly face it. It was obvious however what was causing the issue. There was excessive paint on one side that I sanded off. Especially on the rear brake mount.

Re: dcrf26 frame - Scott Foil? I decided to give this frameset a try.
I ordered it painted from the Ceccotti/Sequel-store on Aliexpress, including a T47/DUB BB.
The stack is rather high for an aero frame but since this bike has a -17 stem/cockpit and the headset cap and spacer add only 15mm, I'm sure it will be low enough for me. I think I could even omit the cable cover below the stem and use only the headset cap for a very slammed look. I prefer a longer headtube with a slammed stem over a super short headtube with a tower of spacers.

I ordered a size 58 bc I'm a big boy.
This will be a full cheapskate China aero build. Not sure yet where I'll source the wheels from. I'm still evaluating options.
Groupset will be LTWOO er9 because I can reuse 11sp components I already have lying around and upgrade to 12sp down the line if I want.

I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes.

Re: RIDLEY FALCON RS I very much doubt that Ridley is selling an open mold frame if that’s what you’re asking.
This thing has just been released. So at the very least the manufacturer has licensed this mold exclusively to Ridley for whatever amount of time.
So it probably won’t be sold by anyone but Ridley in the very near future.
