Re: Thoughts/experience with LightCarbon LCR0S/LCRXS-D frame?
I'm 190cm tall so I don't usually consider the small sizes. In a 58, sl8 is a 73.5 and, yes, 72 is comparatively slack.

Yes, in the bigger sizes you are right... But no reason to start throwing around insults  ;D At least our frames don't look so out of proportion  8)

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Hey guys, after I have read through the whole thread, I would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!

I'm lurking around the velobuild 168 since a while. I own a Specialized SL6 in 58 with rim brakes. I'm very happy with the fit and character of the bike. But I don't ride so much anymore to justify another S-Works (and prices gone crazy). Only problem with the 168 for me is the lack of a zero offset seatpost. A build will need a spacer or two (not getting younger anymore...). Does anyone have experiences or guidance how much spacers will be needed to compensate 20mm offset?

Are there other frames in the category of the 168 that are more or less comparable to SL7/8 or Supersix  with a (working) tire clearance of 32?

TFSA and Delihea have a SL7 clone. But I don't think 32mm will fit... I have the SL6 clone and the front is OK for a 32mm (even 33.5mm real size) but the back is not...

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
Hello i'm looking for two bleeding kits, i need one for sram (dot) one for shimano (mineral).

On ali i find the EZMTB-Kit or the WinterZSuffANGRI-Kit.
Are they ok, which one do you recommend, or do you have other solutions?

I have the EZMTB it and it works OK.

Re: Hygge Aero Carbon Frame
Real tyre clearance is 30 or 32?
30 front and 32 back i would say.
My 28mm tires measure 30 and I would not go bigger in the front.

Re: Chinese cycling clothes I bought these for winter / rainy rides but they are crap... Sweat stays in so you are drenched after a while... Really uncomfortable...

Re: DT 240EXP hub clones Goldix, Venfort
The novatec 411/412 are road hubs, that's anyway not the correct for MTB?

I run Goldix Road hubs for roughly 400km.
I am still not 100% sure that the Ratchet will stay alive. But that's also because I read so much about failing Goldix Ratchets. I have 36T version.

I have a non-boost frame and I would change the end caps of the front hub to 15x100 (rear is 12x142). So this would fit. I have done the same with the 791/792 hubs that I am running now...

The R180 are also not specifically for MTB, but I asked the seller to change the caps to 15x100 and they agreed to do that.
They have a MTB specific set, the M180, but that was a lot more expensive, and by the looks of it, the only difference are the end caps and the XD freehub instead of the XDR.

This hubset uses a new kind of ratched it seems. So let's hope is does not fail like the older ones... This is the reason why I have stayed far away from these hubs until now...

EDIT: My MTB only sees very light use. It is for about 10 winter rides a year on some singletracks etc. I don't do big jumps or anything like that. That is why I am comfortable using 24-spoke road hubs on my MTB.

Re: Hygge Aero Carbon Frame
Additional feedback on ride quality from the fully built bikes? I am interested in someone with also experience with higher priced Chinese frames (like Yishun or lightcarbon).

Also curious to see if they will have any sale for 11.11

I did another 105km ride on Sunday. I put my shifters a little more upright instead of the heavily inward tilted setup I had. It looks like this had improved the stability quite a bit. So I guess the 38cm handlebar paired with the 80mm stem and tilted shifters is not such a great combo with this frame...

I have had a problem with play on the rear derailleur hanger (with creaking as a result) but I think I managed to solve it. The outer part of the hanger has a threaded cylindrical part where the axle screws into. This cylinder fits trough the hole in the frame. I think this cylinder protrudes too far on the inside of the frame and it prevents the axle of the wheel to compress the derailleur hanger. It's hard to explain, but it looks like the axle of the wheel has to press the inner part of the derailleur hanger against the frame (so it is sandwiched between hub axle and frame) and in the original setup the axle of the wheel pressed against the cylindrical part of the outer part of the derailleur hanger so it did not press against the derailleur hanger.
I took the derailleur hanger apart and used some sanding paper to sand down the cylindrical part and now everything seems snug.

Chances are there will not be much of a sale on 11/11 but you could find a nice coupon for 40 USD or so... So if you are not in a hurry it might be interesting to wait...

Re: Current Wheelset Offerings for Climbing
It is a very gratifying experience if you try.
Novatec 711/712 are very light, good and cheap.
Light bicycle can provide you very light rims. Even carbon aero spokes(maybe harder to start with than Pillar or CX-Rays).
So you can end at about 1kg for a wheelset.

I build almost all of my wheels myself and you can indeed build a set for 350-400 EUR that is 1100-1200gr.
I am having trouble buying the Novatec 411-412 hubs from Ali (seems like every seller uses these as some sort of scam...) and they are too expensive to buy in the EU (>200 EUR).
I have now ordered a set of Goldix R180 hubs to build my next MTB wheelset. I hope they have upgraded the ratchet mechanism because I was hesitant to buy Goldix hubs until now because of all the bad reviews...
You can get the Novatec 791-792 hubs very cheap on ali if you wait for the sales. Than you have a 1200 gr wheelset for a little over 300 eur.

Re: Chinese cycling clothes
by the photos alone the fabric seems the kind of cheap polyester which with time starts to disintegrate - loose threads, color fades, and the sweat smell doesn't go away. Of course, that'd be just what it looks like, but at that price, I wouldn't expect anything different, especially it's an unknown brand.
If you're ok with trying and maybe having to throw away after some months, then maybe worth it..

but imo, with offers from Darevie and Rion on the 'super deals' and such, which end up not being much more expensive, and at least you know the brand and that the fabric is better, I'd say it's better to spend your money on those than on some risky new shirt/brand

When buying my first set of shirt/bib on ali, I also got a very cheap one, the one with the multi-colored chamois... I did not even wear it once because it is utter garbage... It's not even worth trying.

Re: Hygge Aero Carbon Frame Well, it seems I have now done 850km with the frame so maybe a little more feedback...
I am fairly happy with the frame now.
  • Stability of the steering is a lot better with the grips less inward angled.
  • Play in the rear derailleur stays away after the modification of the hanger parts
  • There is some creaking that keeps popping up, especially after hitting a hole in the road or doing a little bunny hop. I suspect it is the left BB cup as there is always some anti-seize compound where the cup threads into the frame that even re-appears after a while even after washing it off. I reckon this can only mean there is some movement there. I am going to remove the cup, clean it and put some mild thread locker on the threads.
  • Seatpost seems to stay put for the time being with he 6 Nm torque, thread locker on the bolt and a lot of carbon paste.
