Re: Lightcarbon: New LCR017-D (or Yishun R1058-D) I would love to understand better how these companies work as businesses. How many frames can they get out of that 17-D mold in that size per day? I assume they only have one mold per size. And so, with curing time and all, what's the ratio of mold to employee you need to have a sustainable business? When they say the 58 wont be in stock again for 2 months must mean that they got a large OEM order in 58, right?
Am very curious.

Re: Elitewheels Drive 50D --> Rim Failure Only seeing this now. Curious as well to know how things went.
The pictures very much look like delamination. Very odd.
For comparison, a friend (he weighs 2.5 ants) crashed during a race last summer and broke 2 Farsports wheels, photos attached. He says he was drafting and slammed right into a curb at 40kmh, something like that. Let's say he definitely felt the crash :)

Re: Which gravel wheels?
Where can we find Peterscycle? Nice looking wheels!

Do a quick forum search, be posts here. It's Petercycles@ something, from the top of my head. Bought 5 wheelsets from him.

Re: What are the recurring big sales on Ali? China is in bad shape economically, and they've seen deflation while the rest of the world has seen inflation.
Bike specifically, prices have been falling, inventory piling up.
Past performance is no sign of future performance, it would actually make sense to have more inducements this year if they're trying to move stock and stimulate demand.
Also with the global economy slowing down, we could expect shipping prices to come down, and a fair bit of the what you spend on aliexpress is actually shipping cost, because that "free shipping" isn't free, although part of it is often subsidized by Alibaba.

Either way, if you're looking at big ticket items, it's worth using the messaging app to see what the seller has to say, you may get a good deal, extra coupons & so on.

Re: Elitewheels Drive 50D --> Rim Failure
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ac-FVFzAk4xqTcZhqnGxhNm7nb3i73_V?usp=drive_link   showing images of rim after impact. Pothole was obscured by water due to rain. Pic of  pothole taken a few days later

Wow the rim disintegrated! The pothole looks huge given the size of the wheel on the picture. When you take such a picture, put a known object for size, because without the wheel, the pothole could look tiny.

Re: Elitewheels Drive 50D --> Rim Failure
Hi everyone. New here.
I'm just looking for some light on a small issue and this might be the thread. I bought a pair of Elite Wheels through their store in alixpress. The front wheel came with a very small dent on the rim. This is something to ask for replacement? What you guys think?
I talked to Elite through alixpress and they said to me there is no problem riding it, but i don't know.

Very strange, it's small, but also, it's not small. it's probably fine. If you press on it with your finger, does it feel different than on the rest of the rim? If so, then i'd worry.
I've handled quite a few carbon wheelsets, never had that issue. rim moulds are a super basic shape on the outside, there's no good reason why you'd have such a depression there that i can think of.
Maybe email carbon experts? there are several who're featured a lot on YT, i suspect they get such emails all the time.

Re: Elitewheels Drive 50D --> Rim Failure
Thanks!
Yes it is a little different when i press with my fingers. I also made the coin test and it is different. I'll try again with Elitewheels if they replace it.

Yeah, i'm no expert but it would be a bit sad to hit a pothole at 70kmh and for the rim to disintegrate because of this point of weakness. if you take a video where you can show that there's material missing / it sounds different, you should get aliexpress to take your side even if elite is reluctant.
If they're being unfair / trying to hard ball, you can tell them you will leave negative comments with your experience on the last 20 GCN videos to expose them as crooks or something. Their reputational risk is very high if they refuse to replace stuff when their QC misses material defects in stuff.

Re: Yishun R1088-D Aero Road
These guys use ASC for threads in thread together(thread fit) bottom bracket - https://youtu.be/84Ut53i17iQ?si=M2J55_MzgPmmvgRz&t=303
I'm still unsure if I should use grease/asc/liqui moly 3312/nothing for Token Ninja BB cups. I'll ask also a mechanic in a bike shop when I go there to cut the steerer tube next week.
Can you please share some video which you found, where grease is used on integrated crown race?

Just to quote one that involves a ridiculously pretty girl, look up DREAM BUILD ROAD BIKE - Puck Moonen - Pinarello Dogma.
If you can get it for cheap, get liqui moly 3312 and put that on carbon to BB interface. That was the whole point of my earlier message. And regular bike grease on the thread that links the 2 bits together.
If you want to retrace the rabbit hole shenanigans, google liqui moly 3312 and or that japanese silicone grease thing (which you'll find on that YT video from rides of japan), you ll find the weight weenies thread on it, and you ll see the various points i've made (Cannondale mechanics being for me the most compelling argument).

Re: Carbon Wheels- Carbon Vs Metal Spokes Aliexpress has a sale from Apr15 to Apr20, so you may have luck with farsports or elite wheels, for example. Other than that, peter from carbon speed, whom you can find on the forum (petercycles@foxmail, i think? - do a forum search), has good deals. Ditto on Leon from Yuanan (OEM for Elite wheels, also on the forum).

Yes, you would have more comfort with steel spokes because steel is compliant in a way carbon isn't, and sapim cx ray / pillar wing 20 spokes are nice spokes. I can't speak for cheaper ones, i would not cheap out on that.

One thing you dont mention is tyre, tyre width and pressure. If you go wider / put latex tubes vs butyl / put TPU tubes vs butyl / go tubeless / lower pressure, you will also gain in comfort, so you may not have to change wheels. The gold standard in tyres is conti GP5000, if you run crap tyres, that'd likely be your best return on investment.

Power transfer is a vibe that's used to sell bikes so we can identify with Pogacar. A comfortable bike is far more important than optimizing the last watt of power transfer. If your bike hurts you, you'll ride it less, which makes it a bad bike.
