Re: IIIPRO E4 4-Piston Hydraulic MTB Brakes - Are they to be trusted? I have been considering purchasing the ZTTO hydraulic 4 piston brake set.  Much less expensive.   (To date, I haven't had any problems with other ZTTO parts I've purchased.

Any thought on these brakes?  Only $58.00 for a set.   ???  (They weigh more than the IIIPros.)

Re: IIIPRO E4 4-Piston Hydraulic MTB Brakes - Are they to be trusted? I have always understood that if the hydraulic lines are bled and the calipers are set up/adjusted correctly,  lever fade is usually due to the mineral oil becoming too hot and boiling/making bubbles.  When the levers stay firm, but the brakes fade, this is due to the pads/compound and/or the rotors.

I have had lever fade happen on occasion on my Scumano XT hydraulic brakes.  Usually when this happens the rotors are flaming hot, and the calipers are too hot to touch.   This used to happen more often until I replaced the rotors with heat dissipating floating rotors.

Lever fade has happened to me usually when I have been on very steep long fast descents where I have to keep the brake/s applied for a long period of time to keep my speed down.   When I am on technical trails where I have to brake hard, then release the brakes, then hard again and again, I have never had lever fade.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! I presume that one of the advantages of these bars is that you can us mtn. bike 22.2 hydraulic levers and they mount in a position that mimics regular drop bar brake levers.  My question is, how do the shorter length of "single finger"  levers feel/work for braking?  Does one have to find hydraulic brakes with longer levers on them?

My interest has been that I have a 29er hardtail that I change its configurations to different wheelsets, and forks.  I would like the option to be able to use flat bars, but currently I have been using carbon gravel bars, where I use cable brake levers to Juin Tech GX P calipers.   If possible, I would like to be able to run full hydraulic calipers and levers, and be able to swap between flat and gravel style bars without a bunch of part swaps.

Re: price increases I believe that shipping container costs are back down to around $2,200 for a 40 ft container.  In Jan. 2019, the same container cost $1,900, peak was around $11,000 in mid 2022.
My understanding is that prices for higher volume commodities being shipped to the US are falling again.  For bicycle parts, in the USA, there is a growing glut of parts/bicycles where importers paid very high prices to get the parts sent here, and now they are sitting on a lot of bike parts where they have too much money invested. Thus they are trying to keep sale prices higher as long as they can to try to recover their investments.  This will probably balance out, as competing importers bring in new parts a lower costs, forcing others to reduce prices and get rid of their inventory.
For us, who like to purchase bike parts directly from China for our personal usage, Chinese stores monitor our prices here, and raise and lower their prices, because like us, they want the largest profit they can make.
I see this every year on Aliexpress,  January through May they try to raise prices and see what sticks.  Then they have their summer sales. Then prices go up some until around Nov. Dec. when they have their supposed end of year sales.

Re: Any opinions/experiences with Spcycle bike framesets? I purchased one of their hardtail light weight 950 gram frames in Nov. 2021.  Only about 100 miles on the bike.  but it built up to be a 19 lb bike.  Not too shabby a weight.
handles well, but for me the top tube is a bit short, so I ordered a longer stem so I can stretch out a bit more.

Re: price increases From my perspective, I pay the least total amount for the items I want/need balanced with how fast I need the item.  Usually the faster you get it, you typically pay a premium.   So when I look for something from Amazon, or E-bay, I often see the same items as is being sold on aliexpress. (Perhaps with a different logo on the item.)
If the item being sold on Amazon is being shipped from China, it is typically the same price as I find on Aliexpress.  If the item is stocked and shipped from the USA, I usually have to pay 5% to 10% more for the item, but I get is in 3-5 days versus 3 weeks from Aliexpress.

If an Amazon store stocks an item, they have to increase prices some to cover their inventory and handling costs.  Sometimes, if the Amazon store, or Amazon purchased a large quantity of the item, then they get a big enough discount from the Chinese manufacturer that they can sell the item for less.   My iGSPORT iGS630 bike computer came from Amazon, on sale, for about $60 less than any Aliexpress store has it listed for, plus, 4 months later no Aliexpress store actually has them in stock.  Only the iGS620 version.

I too purchase many small bulk items from Aliexpress that I find are so much more expensive via E-bay or Amazon.   Sometimes I get a lot of 100 parts from Aliexpress, where they are the same price on Amazon for qty=10 or 25.

Re: Similar to flat bar gravel bike I am a "Boost" and "super Boost" frame type of rider these days.  All my recent off-road frames are 148mm rear spacing and 110 front forks.
The rear wheels I have recently built, lace up and true even faster having almost the same drive/non drive spoke lengths.

But if your other bikes have 142mm rear spacing, it might be good for wheel swapping.

Re: [Q]Comfortable Long ride Gravel Frame. Depending on what terrain you will ride your gravel bike on you might consider purchasing a gravel frame that will fit larger than 38mm tires.   Many new gravel bike frames fit 42 mm or even 44 mm tires in back.   I wish by Seraph Gravel frame I purchased 3 years ago fit wider tires.  I find that the 38s are limiting on rough descents, and have since migrated to using my 29er hardtail with dropper bars for more and more of my longer gravel road rides

Re: WheelTop EDX OS Series Wireless MTB Drivetrain Thread back from the dead, about a product that appears to be dead too.

https://loveforbikes.com/mysterious-disappearance-of-chinese-electronic-rear-derailleur-wheeltop-eds-ox/

I purchased a set of the EDS system last August.  I am getting ready to put it on one of my bikes.   Though about purchasing another set, and they are nowhere to be found for sale.

Bummer...

I wrote Wheel Tops asking them what happened that they stopped manufacturing and selling them.

Re: WheelTop EDX OS Series Wireless MTB Drivetrain Wheeltop responded to my query of why they are no longer available on Aliexpress, or direct sale.

Where are you come from?We only sell them in select areas.

Best regards

I replied back stating USA.  They replied:

Sorry, we will contact you as soon as the sale starts in the United States.

Best regards

They must have been caught copying at least some part of a SRAM's system and had their hands slapped so that they can't export to a bunch of countries around the world.

It is difficult for "we the consumers" when someone else improves upon a design that is patented and the patent holders intentionally do not improve the product because the company is milking the cow for all it is worth because a few companies own the market.

I hope Wheeltop filed patents for their innovative approach to having a rear derailleur that works with 7 speed through 13 speed cassettes.   Market threat to all the others who want to sell us rear derailleurs that only work for a given speed cassette.
