Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
If it’s available to ship more or less now, and that guy still has no complaints, it’s tempting. I do wish Haideli would make these frames with a little more tire clearance than 2.4, though.

These frames are made in "open molds" that are shared among several manufacturers, so it doesn't depend on Haideli alone. Same thing for any upgrade - they probably discuss this among themselves so that they are in sync, which takes some time. I bought my frame from Winow Cycles, and they announced that an upgrade is coming, although they didn't say I would get it for free.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
There's a thread on here with a guy who painted his like a yellow Pivot Firebird.

Yes, because the guy was persuaded it was a clone of the Pivot Firebird. Something that needs to be checked for design flaws - the links look like they can't be made much different than the original, which was not the case for the 831. So maybe ditch the 831 and switch to the 830... or give the 831 to your wife or your kid, if they don't ride hard.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
If the frame FS-AM831 got the quality issue, anyone shows the picture we would be positive to solve it.

Eddy, all first versions of the 831 frames have the "quality issue" from the start, because the design is flawed. The quality issue is a bearing that is not held in its recess. The bearing is pulled in and out of its recess as the pivot is submitted to axial forces. As long as the press-fit holds, the flaw is not that visible, but eventually the press-fit will fade and the pivot becomes a ball joint.

Plus, the "issue" is not something you can show on a picture, because it's in the behavior of the bike, i.e. it's something you more feel than see. Unless you simply want a picture of the pivot showing that the bearing is not held, but that you know already.

FS830 Ripmo or Firebird?
Hasn't it been around for a while though?  I remember looking at it a while ago, looks like it could be a nice ride but it is ugly like a Ripmo (fight me!)  It is probably the frame I should have bought.

Haideli sell them on Alibaba

I persist that it looks like a Firebird, yet an older version, like here. The links are arranged the same way, and the geometry is pretty close, with slight variations, such as a steeper seat tube (76°, closer to the latest Firebird version).

Might simply buy this one instead of a triangle upgrade. Looks like the links can't be botched as bad as on the 831...

The FS830
In my case it was possible to stop the delivery of the AM 831 in the last minute. So they will send me a FS 830 Mold instead as soon as possible.
If i reach it, i will have a look on the Link and the bearings. Build it up as fast as possible, to give you a idea of is there some issues or not.

I tried to look a the FS830 and asked for internal schematics. There could be an issue too. If you look at the pivots, there is a bolt on the left side, with the bolt head certainly pinching the inner race of a bearing fitted in the link eyelet. The bolt apparently goes right through and screws into a nut at the link eyelet on the right side, which nut probably pinches the inner race of a second bearing. Not sure how this works, because the link eyelet must be free to turn about the nut. In any case, both bearings are apparently pressed into the link eyelets from the left, meaning that they can't stop the link from moving to the right with respect to the frame.

FS830 links
I have had bought a lot of shims  ;D. But Thank you a lot for you detailed eye on that.

Shims won't fix that, if it's what I suspect...

FS830 links
Here is the exploded view, how pivot had it done:

https://www.upgradebikes.co.uk/files/technical/pivot/Firebird-C-Parts-Schematic.pdf

Yes, the correct way, bearing recesses facing outwards, each with a bolt for pinching the inner race of the bearing against the frame body. In the FS830, the left recess faces outward and the right recess inward. Doesn't look good.

start a new thread gents, we have our hands full with the AM831 in this thread  ;)

Yeah, let's continue here: https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3018.45.html

Probably some of the guys can tell us about the links.

Re: New Enduro Frame FS830 After some issues with a first version of the FS831 frame, due to a flawed pivot design, we were wondering if the design of this FS830 was cleaner, to maybe switch to this instead.

Looking at the pictures, I had worries about the link design (see from here: https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3172.msg33167.html#msg33167).

Could anyone confirm how the bearings are mounted in the links? Haideli are not very diligent about providing the details.

Feel free to contact me, thanks, merry christmas.

Eddy@haidelibicycle.com

Schematics of the pivot internals, or anything showing how the bearings are mounted in the links, please.
