Re: Elves Falath EVO 2023
We have to come to terms with the fact not every bike on the market is designed fit everyone.

True. Integrated one piece cockpits - as good as they may look - don’t really help with that either.
Still, I think that particulary with B2C sellers from China and new brands like Elves which AFAIK have have their biggest turnover in Asia, there’s very few frame offerings for normal sized Europeans and Americans. Sizes usually fit people with maximum average height, sometimes barely.
But maybe that’ll change as sales in the Western world increase.

You could of course always go down the route of using stem and bars and adjust the fit. Slap on a massively long stem and feel like a world tour pro.  :P
I think Jonas Rutsch of team EF rides a ridiculous 150mm stem on his Super Six EVO. He’s pretty tall. His bike probably steers about as quickly as a bus.

I correct myself. Rutsch rode a 170mm stem at Paris-Roubaix 2021.  :o
Didn’t seem to bother him. He came in 11th. He probably had very compliant handlebars with that kind of stem length.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 Seems like a great wheelset especially for the price.
I’ll stick with custom built wheels, though. I’m a DIY kind of guy.  8)

Glad to read that you managed to fix your BB!

Re: Standert Bicycles (Berlin Brand) - Who Makes Them? Any Alternatives? I was contemplating the idea of getting a Standert when I was looking for a multi purpose gravel frame made of steel. But honestly, when you're looking for steel, the price gap between a (nicely made high quality) steel frame off the shelf and a custom made frame is not that big. As long as you're not buying from one of the uber-expensive boutique builders.

I went down the custom route. Got a nice fillet brazed frame and paired it with a Carbonda-fork. This is the result.
Wheels are custom built. Groupset is Ekar except for the Magura calipers and the Sram Red cranks. I'm using a 13sp chainring by Ratio components. Lovely ride.

Re: Standert Bicycles (Berlin Brand) - Who Makes Them? Any Alternatives? I agree. I would locate guys like Big Forest Frameworks already more in the expensive boutique sector.
My frame is built by Jacek Orlowski in Sczeczin, Poland. He used to have his workshop in the velodrome and built frames for Poland's national track team when they were still riding on steel frames. So yes, long time ago.
My frameset is made of Columbus Life throughout and I got to decide everything. It is fillet brazed which is considerably more work to do than just welding it (like the Standert frames). I paid around 1200 EUR including paint on frame and fork. So that's a lot cheaper than what Standert is asking for their better steel options.
I can also recommend Antonio Taverna in Padua, Italy. You can find him under his "brand name" https://www.vetta.it/.
His quote was roughly the same as Orlowski's but I went with Jacek as he's closer to me and I picked the frame up.

Especially in Italy, there's lots of these smaller and lesser known builders still around and they're asking very reasonable prices. TBH at this point I'd always go custom, if I was going for a new steel frame again.

Re: Advice on fake frames
The idea of a Madone knockoff with IsoSpeed is both really cool and terrifying. It's questionable enough getting something like the Cervelo S5 or the Tarmac SL 7 that have no moving parts, but throwing a suspension bearing into the frame takes this to a whole new level.

I'd love to see some actual details on what they did for that and whether the parts are interchangeable with the real thing.

That's an Emonda knock-off, right? So no IsoSpeed anywhere. There are however last gen Madone knock offs on Aliexpress. And I was wondering the same thing about these.
The only reason I bought a knock off as in the VB R218 from Velobuild is that it was the only frame available that had a) direct mount rim brakes and b) fully internal cabling. I wanted these two things and there is virtually no other frame out there - except maybe from one option at Lightcarbon that I didn't like the look of. I see it more as a replica than a counterfeit. It looks the same from the outside but it certainly is vastly different beneath the surface. Something which is widely accepted in the world of cars and motorbikes as well. I don't have a problem with it as long as it isn't made to deceive people into buying the real thing and as long as it doesn't copy color schemes and brand logos.

Re: Spider mounted power meter advice Hi everyone,

I'm looking at upgrading my SRAM Red 22 carbon crankset with a spider based PM. It's the old three bolt pattern interface. As far as I can see, all three - Sigeyi, XCadey and Magene - are offering a PM for this crankset. Also, they're virtually identical electronically, right? So am I right in thinking I can just pick either one depending on price and customer service? Or is one more reliable than the other?

Re: Cyclami TPU tubes - more TPU tube options! I have bought a set of the Cyclami TPU tubes and both seem to leak slowly. I'll investigate further to see if there's a puncture somewhere or if it's a manufacturing issue - at the valves for instance.

Anyway, I've also ordered a set of Ridenow inner tubes for my other bike and had no such issues. I set up the wheels and they hold air seemingly forever.

I dunno if it's a matter of luck with these cheap TPU tubes from China. But so far, I can't say I'm impressed with the Cyclami ones.

Re: Standert Bicycles (Berlin Brand) - Who Makes Them? Any Alternatives? I can vouch for the quality of PlanetX frames. This is my crit bike. I got this for an absolutely crazy price of 350 GBP new for the set when they sold out the last of these. It’s made of Columbus Spirit HSS tubing with lovely sophisticated tube shapes. Hexagonal downtube and oval top tube. Silly light fork made by Columbus as well (320g uncut). It’s very stiff for a steel frame. 7.9kg for the whole bike as pictured including all accessories. Granted, these are tubulars.
If PlanetX ever sold something similar with discs in the future I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, most of their metal frames are all road/gravel inspired ATM.

Re: Spider mounted power meter advice No. This is the non-hidden-bolt version. On my Sram crank, the fifth chainring bolt screws directly into the back of the crank arm. Sigeyi informed me that they will probably offer their cheaper AXOcc some time this year for my crank. That could be an interesting option. I wonder though if that plastic battery cover will sit tight enough to a) not fall off during gravel riding and b) stop water ingress.
