Re: First time dipping into Chinese components
I have this old entry level Fuji that I don't ride anymore, and I thought it might be a nice platform to start trying out some of the stuff I've seen on YouTube. Also, this will be my first foray into building/upgrading bikes on my own, so any pitfalls to watch out for would be great.

The bike currently has an 8-speed Claris on it with rim brakes. I was thinking of upgrading to an 11-speed. Looking at either Sensah or Ltwoo. I can't tell from AliExpress which are mechanical and which are hydraulic. So, I need help figuring that out.

Also, do I need to upgrade the cranks/chainrings? It seems like I probably would. If so, how do I figure out what kind of bottom bracket I need to get?

I prefer mixing-n-matching. For example if you get Sensah Shimano compatible shifters such as the Team Pro 11 speed shifters, you can stick with a Shimano rear/front derailleurs. I'm currently running a 1x road bike with Sensah shifters and a 105 RD. LTwoo road groupsets 10/11 speed shifters are compatible with Shimano Tiagra 4700/105 R7000/Ultegra R8000/Dura Ace 9000 and GRX 11 speed. I do feel Shimano mechanical levers have better brake modulation though. Plus I like trying different things on my bike. It's a bit boring seeing the same assembly line bikes on the occasional group ride!

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! I caved in and picked up a direct mount 1x aero chainring. The quality of these chainrings are quite nice, though they cost quite a bit more. It has the narrow wide teeth profile which works well with geared bikes.

I wanted to add some long term feedback on the hollowed out Goldix alloy crankset I purchased awhile back. I guess I jumped the gun and Trace Velo was right about the creaking issues!

After continued use, I noticed creaking with crankset under load (low gear climbing) on my pressfit BB carbon bike. I removed the BB, re-greased it and made sure it was properly secure. The crankset continued to creak. I swapped out the crankset for my Racework carbon crankset and the creaking stopped. I then tried this Goldix crankset on my BSA threaded alloy gravel bike and there was no creaking under load. So it seems this crankset will definitely creak on pressfit carbon bikes. Though I can't confirm if this also applies to BSA threaded carbon bikes.

If you do buy this crankset, I can only recommend it for BSA threaded bikes that are either alloy and/or possibly steel. I had temporarily swapped back my GRX 600 crankset to my gravel bike and it felt so heavy with the steel axle. So I'm glad I didn't have to toss the Goldix crankset to the recycle bin!

Re: Best AliExpress head & tail lights? I've been very satisfied with my Gaciron headlights.  I've had two I've been using since 2021 without issue.  I think they're just starting to convert their lineup to USB-C.

I have a V9D-1800 and a V9M-1200.

This is their official store, but other vendors have their products for a bit cheaper.

Lexon has a carbon 3D printed saddle on sale. This is the cheapest carbon version I've seen. Most AliEx searches deceptively shows the non-carbon saddle price while the carbon version is priced much higher.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! These "baiting" low prices associated with a different version of the product happens in many Aliexpress stores, it isn't limited to bicycle parts.  I used to think, "WOW, look at that good price for that item",  I open the link and see that the low price is for a different item than shown in the picture in their advertisement.  It is so common that I no longer get excited and don't get suckered into opening the link in the first place, unless I am looking for that specific item, in which case I will be looking at many stores and reviews to find the best rated seller at the best price.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! Today I did 18 miles on the Lexon 3D printed saddle. It's not as light as some of my other saddles, but as I mentioned this saddle feels very sturdy. The carbon rails held up quite well. My other carbon saddles need to be wrapped in gaffer tape to keep them from slipping on two of my frames. Comfort is decent, the cushion isn't what's most obvious, but the mesh consistency when sitting on it. When shifting positioning on the saddle, you don't feel much friction when moving. I can see myself having no issues with this saddle on even longer rides. I definitely would recommend it!

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! I tried the Lexon saddle on my road bike and liked it enough that I got another one for my gravel bike. The wider nose is, to me, more comfortable than the Power Mirror saddle I was using, and it's about 100 grams lighter too. As pointed out in previous posts, the rear of the rails flow directly into the shell rather than having a noticeable step where the rails have been slotted into a hole and then bonded, which is where I've had previous cheap carbon saddles fail before. The 3D printed top isn't nearly as advanced as the Power Mirror in terms of the use of 3D printing for variable density - the Lexon saddle is the same density all over whilst the Power Mirror had quite distinct density differences front/rear within a span of ~6 inches. It hasn't negatively impacted the comfort of the Lexon saddle though.

Re: Which chains is everyone using?
Is this the chain/series that you guys are talking about?    I try to keep my chains below $35, so at $50-60, this one is outside my usual chain purchase price.  Does/will it really last 3X longer?
Yep thaat is the chain/series, except I am running 10 and 11 speed group sets, so it is $30-40 a chain for me.

Can personally say it last 3X longer, multiple bikes, waxed chains, only been 18 months (no problems so far). On the other hand Adam from Zero Friction Cycling says the last longer, I trust him, lots of knowledge and experience in testing chains and chains lube.
