Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
I had no clue a 9t sprocket top gear was compatible with Shimano 11-Speed. Lovely build!
Yeah, it works.
42-9 is like a 51-11 to go fast and the 42-36 is like a 34-29 for climb, so this config is very good option to mount 1x (in my opinion)

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Stem is -6 degree.

First ride today, 40km. Good feeling. The bike is fast and reacts very well, going fast and climbing. I can feel a better control sensation than in my other bike when downhill.. The stem/handlebar help to give me a plus of control an confort (440). The handle bar is top.
Couple of details to fix.. as usual in the first ride, but very happy with the result.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame I forgot to share the weight of the frameset, for the frikies of grams.. :)

frame: 1165g
fork: 440g
stem 110: 175g
handlebar: 260g

The stem + handlebar weight is more than the integrated option, but in my case I prefer two pieces.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Inspired by your post. Bike check after 2,449.7 Km. So far so good. A couple part changes after the initial build:

- Changed saddle from Specialized Power to a lightweight carbon EC90 model with cut out ~90g (thanks for the review @Carbonazza). Surprisingly comfortable although it has no padding. Not sure if it fits my sit bones like it should but enjoying the weight savings. As a 90Kg rider I feel well supporter on it. Considering putting it on my VB GF01 gravel bike as well https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32921891894.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.4ddf4c4dsNjPl5

- Installed a LTWOO UT OSPW. Was concerned about the unsealed ceramic bearings and planned on changing them to regular sealed bearings as soon as I could but they seem to be sealed a bit better than I thought. Haven't spun them after my first somewhat wet road ride yesterday so we'll see how much grime got into them. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003009824917.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.4ddf4c4dsNjPl5

On my last ride I noticed quite a bit of flex on my HB01 bars. I think this was in part due to the bar wedge tightening piece becoming a bit loose but also may need to bring down the bars a bit more so they grip more of the fork steerer, or the bars just have too much flex period.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Loved the color of the frame, whats the name?  it has some flakes in the paint?

The 168 will not clear 35c comfortably. I'll probably rotate but it will be very limited in clearance. The fork is the main limiting factor

33-34c is max.

Here shown with 32c WAM all-road tires

Consider the CFR-1056 as it weighs about the same, has external cable routing, and will importantly clear a 35c tire comfortably.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Wheels are Hunt 4 Season All-Road. Very nice budget wheelset for this type of bike. 20mm wide internally.

Tires are Vittoria Terreno Zero 32c setup tubeless.

This setup has seen shit.  ;D

Re: VB-R-168 Build- A sceptic's experience
I just received my VB (separate) stem and bars. These will replace the integrated bars that are currently on the bike. First impressions are that they are stiffer than the integrated bars. I will update with pics/thoughts once I get this combo installed (which requires re-routing cables through small bar spaces ::))

The bar/stem combo has been installed. See attached pictures (sorry for the bad pictures. it is connected to my trainer currently). I decided to externally route the cables on this combo because of how difficult it is to internally route them. The holes are very small and difficult to work with (even more difficult than the previous integrated bars). This may have had something to do with the fact that all cables were already cut to length so everything was more difficult. I think this option will be good for future maintenance though.
I cut the top headset spacer to allow the cables to be internal until the stem. I was also able to connect my quadlock mount to the bars which is a big plus (the fully integrated bars are not round so this can't be done).

After getting the stem/bar combo mounted, I don't think there is any difference in stiffness between the old and the new bars. However, I am on the heavy side at 220lbs so some flex is expected. Overall I am happy with the result.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Anyone with the separate bar/handlebar combo...

Can you please provide photos of how the internal cable routing works from the handlebars into the steer tube? The photos on the website aren't exactly clear. Is there a cable opening at the center of the handlebars, where the stem bolts attach?

Thanks...

In the separated stem handlebar option, the cable goes inside the handlebar, the handlebar has a hole to route the cables tru inside the stem and the stem has a hole also to route cables tru the headset. Like ACR system, see picture.
