Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804954468515.html

I've recently ordered a few more RideNow TPU tubes from this seller and I feel like they've finally have matured the manufacturing process. They look and function much better than the first generation batches that came out. At this point, I can recommend these as the go-to budget TPU tubes if you're not in the mood to go tubeless on your road bike. Though I'm 100% pro tubeless for gravel tires!  ;D

Also a few tips I've developed while using these: I tend to lower my PSI than I would with latex and butyl. I ride them 5 to 10 PSI lower than my recommended weight for a more supple ride (they tend to ride harsh depending on tire) and I feel it helps minimize potential flats. I use a schrader valve adapter when airing theses tubes so the presta valve cores don't get damaged. Especially if you need to change a flat out in the field this will minimize any problems. Lastly I find glueless patches work best with TPU tubes. In fact if properly applied, you can use continue to use the patched tubes as normal (as long as they are single hole punctures and not snakebite double hole punctures).

Custom Waltly Ti road bike - "Alberta Clipper" First inquired with Waltly at the end of January. Dealt with Sumi. She was very responsive and friendly. Submitted my plans and made down payment in early February. Drawings were approved a few days later. Just received my frame, along with a carbon fork and titanium seatpost and stem last weekend and put it together. Some pics of the build process:

Finished product:

Total price came out to about US$1300, including frame, frame logos, fork, FSA headset, titanium stem, titanium seatpost, and Chinese domestic shipping. Build went relatively smoothly, though installing the internal cabling was a pain and I had to bodge the front derailleur cable run a bit because I didn't notice on my original drawing that the front derailleur cable hole in the frame was only suitable for Di2 cabling and certainly not for compressionless cable housing. Weight including pedals came to about 9.3kg.

Parts used for the build all came from Taobao, including:
- PRO Vibe Aero handlebar
- Giant Fleet SL saddle
- Giant bar tape
- Ultegra R8000 shifters and derailleurs
- 105 11-32 cassette, 105 chain
- Stone 50-34 chainrings
- Sigeyi AXO power meter (110 BCD) and crank
- Shimano SPD-M520 pedals
- Onirii cable-actuated hydraulic disk brakes
- Jagwire cables, housings, and 160mm centre lock disk rotors
- Timibike handbuild 50mm carbon wheels with DT Swiss DT350 hubs

Super satisfied with the result. The frame and sandblasted logos looks great. Bike is a perfect fit for me (obviously!) and feels great to ride - super quick, too, as I went for a 25km ride this morning and averaged 34km/h! Can't wait to put more distance on it.

Re: Custom Waltly Ti road bike - "Alberta Clipper"
Beautiful frame and bike!

Did you have a chance to weigh the frame before building it up?

Thanks!

Yes, bare frame was 1.9kg. Fork was about 0.5kg.

Re: Chinese cycling clothes
A lot of these chinese brands have a really small chamois vertically, if i compare them to my nopinz or blacksheep their chamois are far superior especially if you get into an aero position.

I've relegated my spexcel ybyk(?) bibs to shorter rides 1 hour max.

Felt the opposite on my spexcel bibs. They go pretty much from my tailbone to above my junk. A lot more than my castelli and van rysel bibs

Re: 3D Latex Mandrel technology I don't understand the confusion. There are holes at the headset, seattube and BB? Is that not wide enough to take off the bladder?

Re: 3D Latex Mandrel technology The mandrel is flexible and inflatable. It's inflated to press the carbon into the model. Once the carbon has cured, they deflate it and remove it through the various holes in the frame.

I use these on my ZRACE crank with Sigeyi power meter.

Re: Thoughts on Panda Podium? I could see it useful for people who are scared of AliExpress, but those people would probably just stick with their LBS and big name brand parts. I think a list of Gold/Silver rated AliEx sellers and top rated frame/wheel vendors would probably be a lot easier and cheaper with direct links to their AliEx store or website.

Re: Spider mounted power meter advice Here’s my Magene P505 setup. I’ve done around 200k so far.
I can confirm that the power readings are basically identical with my Favero Assiomas. So I trust the unit. Initial concerns that it was over reading were unfounded. Turns out that gravel riding is just harder than road.  :)
Never had a PM on my gravel bike before, so I was surprised.
Only criticism I have to voice is that the fit on the crank spider interface was rather loose compared to the SRAM spider I took off. I hope this won’t cause problems in the long run but so far everything is silent.

Re: Spcycle 2023 New Travel 120mm Super Light 29er full suspension frame I was not crazy about headset routing.  I now have a 2023 Spark with it. It's not actually that bad in practice. More work than standard, sure, but really not that bad. Adding a dropper post took me 30 minute.  I took the whole headset system apart to adjust the headset angle (which is possible on the spark frame I rotating the bearing cups 180°) and I had the thing back together in under an hour.  I think a bunch of people love to make a big deal out of things.

I have a 9 year old hardtail with probably 12,000 miles on it. I've replaced the shifter housing exactly once, the brake lines never, and the headset bearings never.  So I don't really see needing to be in and out of this headset all that often. And with the cables tucked, the bike looks super clean.

So I won't disparage people for not liking internal routing, but I also think it's not as bad as everybody made it out to be.
