Re: Headset play on Carbonda CFR 707 I had a similar issue with the Carbonda headset that came with my FM1002. Replacing it with an FSA No.55R completely solved the problem.

Re: Headset play on Carbonda CFR 707 I would review again and again the assembly, there isn't anything mysterious in a headset.
Either you compress the bearings enough and they don't move anymore, or something is in the way preventing them to compress properly.
There's nothing wrong with the provided headset.

My two main reasons of this kind of issue were the top cap making contact with the tube or the the compression nut.
Or a not tightened enough compression nut, that moves up the steer tube while tightening the top cap.
Did you try to add a 5 or 10mm spacer and tighten ?

Re: Headset play on Carbonda CFR 707
...I am using the Carbonda compression plug as well. Have you had any problems with this?
Sometimes the plug is conical, and can make contact with the nut at its center with still some room for the steerer to go up.
Maybe some pictures would give ideas.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Here’s a pic of my completed build.
No big issues for me. Front disc brake caliper mounting points I think need to be faced, as no matter how much adjustments I do, there remains a tiny bit of rub.
Unfortunately the part for facing that is very expensive.
And otherwise, I thought the port where the front derailleur cable leaves the frame was fiddly and a pain, but I got it in the end.

Got them to send me the frame in bare carbon and I did the paint myself. Also added the Winspace Lun wheels which I really like.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Is it just me, or has there been an increase of new Chinertown members mainly looking for confirmation bias against purchasing from VeloBuild?

I guess I fall into this category.

I have had issues with other frames failing on me in the past (including some expensive "western" brands), but never like with Velobuild where they supplied incorrect or obviously bad parts from the start.

Most people here, including myself are okay accepting some risk that they wont receive the same warranty buying direct from China, but I feel it is in the interest of everyone to push for better QC at least.

I do wonder if there was simply a bad production run that got out around the time China was experiencing the worst of the Omicron wave, Chris mentioned to me that there were delays at that time and maybe pressure caused bad results. It does seem somewhat localized around a group of us who purchased around that time, and recent builds have looked a bit better to me.

In any case, I do hope that Velobuild can succeed, and do not want to seem overly harsh in my critique. I just think that it is important to share the bad with the good so that buyers can make an informed decision.

Re: Carbonda FM909 Greetings to all.
I received my frame, which I ordered in October last year.
Frame sailed from China to Ukraine for exactly 2 months by sea.
The frame looks much better than my old FM936. It is also lighter by 300g, the weight of the bare frame reaches 1960g.
The quality of the seats is high. Bearings 6901*2 and 6801*8 are installed in the frame. The frame is assembled on 12 axes, FM936 was on 10 axes.
There is no protection of the bearings from dirt. The construction is such that there is nowhere to insert even custom seals.
The headset consists of two healthy 52mm bearings. Why this was done is not clear, it is heavy.
Really liked the SRAM UDH rear derailleur holder. although for its quick replacement you need an ALLEN KEY 10mm.
I will build a bike soon, it's a pity that there is no place to ride now (

Review of Trifox X16 Just thought I give my personal thoughts on Trifox X16 . I was wavering between the X16 and X18 , but went with X16 because of the issues with the SL7 recall (since X18 was supposely based on SL7).

I ordered via Aliexpress. I originally bought a size 49 and a size 52 about a 2 months later, (disc brakes) and I'm 1.68m (average Asian) , 52 yrs old and restarted cycling 2 years ago after a break of 36+ years.  The overall frame was great, paintjob was well done, smooth. Came with seatpost and fork. There are a number of reviews on Youtube , so I won't go through the details or photos but maybe give a couple of the things I like, dislike about the frame, as well as issues and potential issues.

1. Carbon - it's T800 and it's light but it does flex.
1a. Fork flex - When I pressed the fork slightly off center with wheels and disc brakes, rotor in place, the rotor would touch the disc brakes, so that suggest to me that if I'm a sprinter (I'm not), it might touch during hard sprinting. I have not actually encounter issues during my actual rides but I'm not heavy (72kg) and I'm not a hard sprinter (below 400w)

2. Frame - Overall frame was nice BUT ..
2a. There was no plastic plug for the brake cable (only for the shifter cables) and after a few hundred KMs, the carbon frame sharp edges cut into my internally routed brake cables. It totally cut the rubber housing although the steel outer housing was fine. I've feedback to Trifox Sales person, hopefully it went up the food chain.
2b. Rubber dust seal for seatpost. I bought two frames, another size 52 subsequently and they came with different type of dust seal, First one does absolutely nothing to protect the seatpost area from water and dust/sands,  the 2nd one was basically ugly and also torn (and couldn't be use) when it arrived.
2c. Seatpost clamp. One seat post clamp was hard plastic and the other metal. Metal one squeaks when I peddle...**sigh**.... I spend days (and changing lots of parts, pedal, BBs, ) trying to figure out where that squeak was coming from.
2d. Chinese companies need to be told not to do "BIG Fxxking TEXT LOGO" , I really don't mind riding bikes with chinese brands, or logos, but they need to stop making their logo fit on the entire frame . Just like the China chinese needs to learn to speak softly in public places, speaking loudly makes senses if you are a farmer and needs to talk to someone across the next field..... Big Logo only makes senses if you are world famous or only selling within China. Rest of the world - we (mostly or maybe it's just me) hate big F logos.

2e. Paintwork. First one (size 49) paintwork was perfect but 2nd one, if you runs the fingers or hand across, you can feel rough patches, although visually it wasn't that obvious. I'm not sure if they outsource the painting or what. In addition, it really sucks that they are not willing to customized the paintwork, wants me to pay US$100 NOT to have the logo. :-P .. didn't take up the offer. Custom painting was not an option, and I probably wouldn't be willing to pay anyway, considering the price they want just to NOT have the logo. In addition, the wheel logo sucks... I mean, white and huge "TRIFOX" on a MATT black carbon wheel. Black Gloss on Black Matt would be better, show your logo but not be brash about it. Asked for it NOT to be painted and as expected, they wanted me to pay extra for that. Said it was their Designer design, so if I want no logo, it's considered as another custom paintwork. WTF Logic. Using Novatec D712SB Hub. Didn't spin well initially but was "OK" after a few hundred km.

Customer service - CS on Aliexpress was ok, responsive with information requests, stock avialability, but not that responsive to negotiation attempts on painting, Logos, etc.

Value - Matched with Shimano Ultegra groupset with Sensah Shifters, ZRACE BR005, OG-EVKIN dropbar and Magene P325CS , Vittoria Latex tube on front (horrible-blew 2 tubes in as many months) + Decathlon tube on rear (because Vittoria blew or sucks), Vittoria corsa tires (nice), it weights in approx 8.2KG. Not too bad for a sub $2K configuration. I was able to average above 30 km/hr (straight and slight upslope incline) and max at 60km/hr (for a few slide down incline sub-seconds). I'm guessing it's my (lack of) fitness more than anything else..

KS LEV carbon dropperpost 150mm drop,
SRAM GX Axs shifter,
SRAM GX Axs derailleur,
SRAM GX carbon crank,
SRAM Eagle sl 34t chainring,
SRAM XX1 10-50 casette,
SRAM XX1 chain,
Shimano XT M8100 brakes,
Shimano XT  180mm front and 160mm rear disc,
Shimano xtr pedals,

Vittoria Barzo front,
Selfmade wheels with funworks hubs, DT revolution spokes and carbon rims.

When the new RS twistloc is deliverable https://bikerumor.com/rockshox-twistloc-gen-2-remote/ I can use the whole hub of the shock. For now its ok with the 2 positions twistloc.

I use this bike as my xc competitionbike and trailbike, and it reacts great in this setup on steap trails and big jumps/ drops. Last week I rode this bike in bikepark La Plagne aswell. First I took out my endurobike Ican P9, 29er with 160mm travel, and after that on the same trails the Carbonda FM909, whitout problems and allmost the same speed.

ceccotti xc build Finished up my budget ceccotti carbon hardtail, I think it turned out looking really nice, as for performance it hasn't been out yet so "to be determined" :D my biggest concern isnt the frame tbh its the bolany fork, but i took it all apart threadlocked the important stuff and put fresh oil in the air chamber with sram butter on everything else so fingers crossed, seems solid enough just basic. build is coming in just under 10kg, so not the lightest but not bad either considering the budget parts. Cable routing was easy enough during the build, only tricky part was routing the dropper cable around the bb shell and up the seattube.

Frame - ceccotti carbon hardtail
Fork - Bolany boost
Wheels - parts bin wheel build, novatech 28h rear hub, superstar 32h front, sapim d light spokes all around, spank 350 28h rim (non vibrocore) rear, spank 350 32h rim (vibrocore) front
Shifter/derailleur - shimano deore m6100
cassette - sram NX
Chain - sram GX
cranks - fonovo phantom cranks
chainring - goodtaste gxp oil slick
pedals - oneup composite
BB - shimano xt
Brakes - Meroca M4 4 pots
Rotors - 160mm light weight AliExpress
Bars - all in one AliExpress carbon
grips - ODI foam
saddle - alixpress super leggara clone
dropper - zoom 27.2
dropper remote - ztto oil slick
Frame protection - added bits of alixpress clear protection in parts, didnt turn out great but not terrible either.
Tyres - barzo front, mezecal rear
