Re: Elves Falath EVO 2023 With every first-look and build video I see of this frame the less I'm intrigued. The majority of folks don't seem to be slamming the cockpit, which I assumed was the original purposed based on the super sloping top tube and tall stack height.

GC performance and I are the same height (6 feet) yet he opted for a size smaller than the geometry suggested due to the tall standover height. Same with Cam Nichols.

Either Elves is on the forefront of innovation with this new Falath EVO.....or perhaps there is a reason you don't really see major brands offering a design/geometry like this for an aero frame. And Elves has been promoting the heck out of this frame on social media which I understand, but is becoming overkill.

This is coming from a Winspace fanboy...

Re: Airwolf YFR068 - 2023 Gravel Frame I ended up ordering one of these frames from Airwolf on Aliexpress and it arrived yesterday. Custom paint colour.

Includes handlebar, stem, headset, seatpost, thru axles and a bottom bracket.

Does have flip chip in front fork, also di2 bar end junction insert piece for downtube (for 11 speed di2) and fork is D type for internal routing.

One minor issue I have noticed is the front derailleur cable routing is set up for a traditional cable set up and I will need to drill out the cable hole to be larger to allow a Shimano Di2 cable to fit through.

Weights:
Frame weight (painted frame with seatpost clamp) 1149g
Uncut fork weight 446g
Seatpost incl saddle clamp 217g
Stem (carbon with aluminium faceplate) 145g
Handlebars 42cm 237g
Rear thru axle 41g
Front thru axle 33g
Headset bearings 39g
Fork compression plug 38g
C ring 10g
Cap on C ring/top fork bearing for routing 8g
Spacers 6g each (3x)
Fork top cap 13g
Rear derailleur hanger 15g
Bottom bracket 115g

Some photos attached. Looks pretty good to me.
Will be building up with Shimano Di2 12 speed. Have ultegra levers, brakes and 50/34 crankset, thinking of using 105 FD and RD along with 11-36 cassette.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 Quick update on my end:
I noticed in the long run, that I routed my rear brake housing a bit too short, causing a kink in the housing at the headset and bad rear brake action.
So I needed to put in new housing and therefore take apart the whole bike basically.
So I decided to finally build up the replacement frame instead just for the sake of trying it. Also, I switched the groupset from Campy 11sp Centaur to 12sp Record - sourced the parts slightly used for cheap. Mechanical rim brake stuff isn't really worth much any more in this day and age.

The build turned out very nice. The seatpost clamping area holds up. The BB did not cause me any trouble. The cups screwed right in, the cranks spin smoothly.
Headtube bearing seats were slightly less tight on this frame, but the surface was a lot nicer finished. On my first frame it looked kinda rough. On this, it seems it was finished with some kind of lacquer coating. Again, I needed to drill the rear brake cable exit hole at the top tube. I explicitly told Chris at VB to make sure it's properly sized and he promised to take care of it. But alas, I guess stuff like this is just something you need to be prepared to do with Chiner frames.

I got another one of the superlight SROAD cassettes. A 12sp 11-32 cassette made from one block of steel, weighing about 215g. They only had it in stock in rainbow colors. Wouldn't have been my favorite choice but now that it's on the bike, I quite like it. I found these one piece cassettes to transfer more noise, especially in combination with deep wheels. So if you like your drivetrain to be dead silent, they might not be the best choice.

The build turned out very nice. I really like the bike. I dropped some weight in the process. This build as pictured, including all accessories (without Wahoo, bottles and saddle bag of course) does now weigh 7.6kg for the biggest available frame size (XXL/54).

Thanks also to madmax for giving me setup tips with Record 12sp.

Re: Airwolf YFR068 - 2023 Gravel Frame
Would you be able to measure the tire clearance for me? I know airwolf says 40mm, but I’m hoping it’s more like an aspero at 45mm… Thanks!

Please see attached photos - measured roughly with tape measure. Looks to be around 45-48mm clearance between both the chainstays (IMG_7148) and seatstays (IMG_7146).

I am planning on mounting 38mm tyres so I will measure the inflated tyre width with calipers and remaining clearance to chainstays. I'm currently waiting on the wheelset to turn up - I have ordered a set of Ryet 38mm deep x 30mm wide gravel wheels with 36t rachet hub.

EDIT - see page 2. Clearance for 45mm tyres would be OK. Approx. 56mm total with 700c tyre and wheel mounted

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 Noticed a crack in my seatstay the other day. Opened an inquiry with velobuild about a warranty exchange. Anyone else have any experience with it?

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218
It might have to do with the dropped stays. That creates more stress in this area. Still it shouldn’t happen of course. Let’s see how VB handle this.

They are replacing the frame. I will keep this updated if/when I get tracking information and frame.

Yishunbike R1058-D Hi All,

I have pulled the trigger on pre-ordering this [/https://www.yishunbike.com/product/r1058-dperformance-road/] .

Melinda tells me it is still in development but that it has passed their quality test and will be dispatched in 3-4 months. It's 1070g for a 54cm so is pretty light, they advertise a lighter version at a claimed 900g for 54cm which would put it in roughly the same category as a seka exceed for a third of the price. However, Melinda tells me this version did not pass the QA tests and anyway requires a minimum order of 10 units, I expect this version to be available next year. It lists something called 'One-piece 3D latex mandrel' aswell as one-piece molding which I assume is how they will achieve the lower weight, this feels like a new technology and evolution from EPS? Anyone know anything about it?

Yishun say: 'The newest latex 3D mandrel monocoque technology improves the strength by up to 30% when using the same material due to the smoother inner wall without wrinkles inside.'

'700c Full Carbon Performance Road Bike Frameset

– One-piece monocoque moulding

– One-piece 3D latex mandrel

– Fully internal cable routing design

– Max Tire 700*30C

– Max Chainring 55-42T'

Looks-wise I think it resembles an SL7 with slightly more relaxed geometry. The resemblance is not surprising after reading on their website that 'The R&D product chief manager had worked as one of the product managers in the Specialized OEM frame factory for 6 years and gained experienced skills in designing and producing carbon frames.' I'm guessing this would be Ten Tech Composites?

They also say that they OEM for '-several well-known brands around the world, such as RIBBLE, BERRIA, MENDIZ, MAGEMO, BOTTCCHIA, DEROSA, and so on…' which is encouraging.

On paper this should be a great frame, however it's obviously a bit of a gamble and the first frames in particular may have issues however it appears like they have solid quality control and testing aswell as warranty. You can pay 20% more to get a 5 year warranty which is a nice touch assuming it will be honoured if something doesnt go to plan so I have opted for this option.

Standard version without handlebar and 5 year warranty: 718usd, shipping 185usd, there are also different charges for payment methods. 5% paypal charge and 30usd bank transfer charge. Will update along the way if anyone is interested.

Fingers crossed!

Re: Aliexpress wheels - What's wrong Drum Roll...   They aren't stated as being tubeless!   No way would I go back to using tubes in any of my 29ers.  Factor in the weight of tubes, plus you have to deal with the possibility of a tube pinch on these narrow rims.
