Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets Update after tearing the RD apart and doing some milling

The BIG source of weight penalty in these 11S R9 RDs is the derailleur hanger screw, or "B-axle". It looks like a functional knockoff/copy of the shimano ultegra-6700-series B-axle. Anyways as I mentioned earlier, it's solid steel. Stock weight is 20 grams for the screw alone. Im sure the aluminum screw specced on the RX is half the weight.

I was able to drill out out about 5 grams alone from the B-axle by driving an m4.5 drillbit down the centerline.

I also dremeled/filed out that chunky hanger knuckle and put an m8 hole in the faceplate of the parallelogram. It only yielded about 5 grams. While it's satisfying to see it all milled out, I gotta say it was not worth the time, effort, or worry involved in doing something that extreme.

All in all I got the RD weight down from 229 to 220g, for $0.

If you really want to effectively tune these R9 derailleurs to match the RX, I'd say replacing the b-axle with with an aluminum shimano replacement, and cable screw with alu or titanium would get you 10 grams. I think that's going to run you about $20-30USD

At that point, I think you might as well go to the Shimano 11-speed ultegra r8000 rear derailleur, which has been confirmed as compatible with LTWOO shifters in the component news thread, weighs a nice ~198g and can be found for ~$90USD.

I've done the numbers on weight and cost of what I call "super-weenie R9": LTWOO R9 hydro brifters and FD, Ultegra RD, and ONIRII XR calipers. Estimated weight coming in at 1125 grams and $553 (after shipping) if you buy the R9 gruppo from the LTWOO official store and add on an ultegra RD and XR calipers. This is in fact lighter than Ultegra R8020's quoted weight of 1132 grams for the same parts. LTWOO brifters are about the same weight as ultegra, so all of that weight savings is coming from the XR calipers.

For comparison, an ultegra disc kit with chain, crank, brifters, derailleurs, and cassette are about $800-1000USD online. To match that for "Super-weenie R9", throw in a $100 S-ROAD cassette, $178 racework crankset, $55 YBN chain and you're at $886. So "super-weenie R9" is not exactly saving you money. It *does* make sense if you have specific needs. For example I want a crank-based power meter with 167.5mm arms, and all of these cheap ultegra groupsets come with non-meter cranks and 172.6mm arms. So if you factor the cost of having to shelve and replace the crank, then starting with a crankless LTWOO kit starts to make more sense. Similarly, the Ultegra cassette is about 30-40g heavier than an S-ROAD cassette.

Update: just wanted to make a note of something I found disappointing about the R9s: the plastic shift levers are rivted on. There is no replacing them. If you have a bad hard shift and break them, you have to replace the whole lever. Talk about garbage design.

Re: Newish ZEROING crankset - Ingrid clone The alloy axle cranksets I've been using are Shimano compatible. Though you still need to use the same pre load crank bolt provided with the crankset. No issues yet, but I do periodically check them.

Re: Magene L508 Radar bike light
damn that is quick, i also live in an urban area and the thought of having to charge it every ride doesn't sound very pleasant.

Well... now after a ride, I charge the karoo, a whoop, sometimes a SRAM battery, a red light, a front flashing light, a Lupine battery if MTB, and the radar. ???
Hopefully I do not forget to charge my phone, and... my car!
And I'm glad I don't ride an e-bike... yet  ;D

Re: ICAN triaero A9 Ok, it has been a while but my A9 is doing well. I worked out a few issues with other components (Ultegra 8020 not shifting that well with the 11-speed Durace chain until I replaced the chain for a 12 speed Durace/9100 model), handlebar tape and a wider/shorter saddle.

It's a lovely bike now. The XL model works for me (1.96cm) running 175cm cranks. Seatpost has plenty of room left still. Pretty stiff where I want it to be, but - helped by the 32c tires - plenty compliant, am using the standard headset, and there is no play. Having this bike now makes me a little more observant when I see other brand-name bikes and I started to notice a few look alikes. i.e. Polygon Helios looks almost identical, to some of the Scott models - it might just be a popular shape?

Added a few pics for the interested ones just after build, before any fine-tuning.

Re: "The One" Aero Carbon Handlebar Experience Yes - although I've only used the unbranded Fire Spider RTB-07 (which is the same bar, just unbranded and made by the same factory that sells Toseek bars).

Very nice bars. Feel premium. Look beautiful.

I can't comment on stiffness and things like that because I don't really load up the bars that much when riding. But they don't flex or wobble in a concerning way so far.

Wall thickness looked pretty even and they aren't the most difficult to route.

Re: "The One" Aero Carbon Handlebar Experience
I received, mounted and already tested the OEM Version.
So far i am happy with it, -its a bit more flexy as a comprable Canyon Cockpit but so far it does not bother me. (84kg and already did some 1200W+ sprints at the last drive,  - so definitely not a ligthweight rider)

The inside looks the same for my part, - at the entrance of the Cabling (where the cabling enters the Bar, coming from the Spacers/Headset) i saw a big carbon or resin flake which almost closed half of the inside, but even though cable routing was no problem.

The Bar ends did look better than what you´ve showed in the last picture. Almost even. Would be interesting  to know if this is just an issue which occurs at the very end of the bars or if the whole part is that inconsistent.

thank you for your reply! dont know how to check the wall thickness of the other areas. i've contacted the seller for a free return, lets see what they reply.

Re: ICAN triaero A9 I strongly advise you not to buy the integrated handlebar model HB017 but HB21 because it is not possible to tighten well and there is always a little slack, while with the HB21 model, once tightened it doesn't move anymore.

Re: chinese carbon saddles https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805023659024.html

Lexon/Ryet 3d printed saddle currently $50-55 USD. Sturdy and quite stiff. 3d mesh holds shape with very little to no compression. My new go-to saddle for the price!

Re: Magene L508 Radar bike light Seems my Magene L508 radar light was on a slow boat from China... it arrived only two weeks ago.
So far really happy with the light. I am using it in combination with a Garmin 830.

Some observations:
- Sometimes the warning for cars clears to early... before the car passes
- Setup/Activation in the Magene App was not the most straightforward experience, but worked in the end
- Using it in pure Radar mode will last me up to 6 hours in a rural area with medium traffic
- The mount for the seat post works, but easily slips and changes direction, hence ordered some new mounts from Alix

I got these mounts for the seat post:

All well except that the light is 90 degree off...
Good that the inner adapter is fixed with two screws so it can be removed. However to fix it in the correct direction, I had to make use of good old epoxy adhesive. So far so good, now we will see how stable this is in the long run.
