tantan GR044/ bxt grv135 instead of carbonda 696? Hi all,

Been thinking forever about buying a carbon frame and make my own build, but always afraid of "china crap'' & ''Carbon catastrophic failures".
From the research I've done I would be better off with a true and tested carbonda, but the shipping cost make it significantly more expensive than either the tantangr04 or bxt grl135. I'd be fine with either geo, just looking to tinker a bit and get out on the gravel.

From the bxt i seem to hear bad and good 50/50 so maybe not going for it? It's the cheapest by far.

The tantan seems like a legit frame (because of the company) but I haven't seen any info of this particular model.

What are your two cents? Any help/suggestions appreciated

PD. I've been lazy and looked up nothing about carbon wheels. Anything cheap and good? please ignore me if this has been covered ad nauseatum.

Re: Groupset News great news, do we have an idea of the release date?

Re: Groupset News
...I don't think bleeding and installing hydraulic brakes is worth it personally. I have installed 105 R7020 twice and both times ended up with mineral oil literally everywhere

A couple of bleeding more and I'm sure you'll do it without a drop on the bike or floor.
I'm happy there will be some price competition for hydro brakes.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707 Long time lurker, second time poster. I just received paint proofs from Katie at Carbonda. Ordered with an FM 1003 frame to save on shipping. Looking forward to putting it all together in the coming weeks. Will be running GRX 800 (x2) with 11-34 cassette, DT Swiss 350 hubs and DT Swiss TK 540s (wish I would have bought Spank Wing 22s but already had the TK 540s for another build that never came to fruition). I went with the full internal cable routing. Also, I borrowed the paint scheme (but not the colors) from one of you on the forum so thanks and my apologies. Remember: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I was going for the 1968 Ford GT 40 color scheme. Close enough for me.

Does anyone have any info on this ONIRII hill clmbing frameset? I recently found this carbon frameset on AliExpress:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256804515038368.html

I'm curious if anyone has more info on the frame? The weight and specs look pretty decent with frame weights:

Super light paint weight: Frame 780g/1.7lb,fork 336g/0.7lb,47cm super light paint ±30g/0.06 lb
Frame 826g/1.8lb,fork 338g/0.7lb,47cm standard paint ±30g/0.06 lb

It also has a threaded BSA, standard 27.2mm seat post and 30c max tire clearance. It reminds me quite a bit of the Aethos in specs and it's been something I've been looking for in the Chinese carbon market.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Magene P325 CS - First Impressions Hello
Do you have any feedback on P325C reliability ?
Are you still happy with it ?

Re: Magene P325 CS - First Impressions
Hello
Do you have any feedback on P325C reliability ?
Are you still happy with it ?
Nicoloc

So, first off a couple disclaimers:
1) I may be selling Magene stuff in the future which may bias me. I'll try to be as impartial as possible
2) this is my first power meter, so I have no prior experience to draw from
That being said...

Accuracy: I find the accuracy to be good, at least to itself. Meaning efforts of similar strain always produce consistent numbers.  Similar efforts between me and riders with similar profiles yield similar wattage.
It tends to be about 5% different than my Turbo trainer power.  Can't isolate the offender. It could just be because the power is being measured from 2 different spots (crank vs the trainer) and the differences are just transmission losses.
The P325CS is very sensitive. Meaning it picks up EVERYTHING. This is very apparent on poor roads. Of freewheeling and you got a bump, itll pick it up. Micro adjustments to keep a steady cadence on rough roads? It'll pick it up.  Heavier on one foot? It'll pick it up.
One one hand greater fidelity is a good thing.  On the other, unless you are on smooth roads, your 3! Second power will still jump around a lot.
If I were to be very critical, I would still have to say they are accurate enough to train with
The only way to check accuracy for sure would be for me to get a pair of Assiomas as well

Chainrings: I hear the earlier chainrings were flexy under power. I can't confirm, as I swapped them out for 1x.
The mounting system LOOKS like a SRAM 8-bolt AXS Mount, but it isn't. One of the splines/bumps of the SRAM AXS system is smaller than the rest, while they are all the same size for Magene.  Swapping rings requires : 1) being handy with a round file, 2) making sure the new rings don't obstruct the charging ports.
Passquest does make Magene compatible rings now, but only for 1X. They might be other manufacturers doing this too. Not sure.

Charging/Battery life: charging is done using magnetic connectors - one for each crank. Super easy, would be nice if one of the connectors were reversed. Easy to display, harder to explain, but for the connectors to fit, one need to be upside down (due to the opposite directions of the cranks). By no means a deal breaker.
I have 5,200km on my 168, and o have charged the cranks maybe 10 times? And that was just out of habit.  I've never run them dry, nor have I ever seen them low on battery.

Thats about it!  They have served me well, and have been totally hassle free so far.
Let me know if this helps!

Re: Velobuild GF-002
Just finished up building my new GF-002 frame. Almost all parts except for the bars/stem were transferred over from my GF-001.

2. Smallest chainring for the GF-002 is 46T: I tried mounting my regular compact Shimano 2x crankset 50/34 and the small chainring was pressed hard against the chainstay with no room to move. Not sure if my choice of BB made a difference but I have a Wheels Manufacturing BB386EVO. I ended up getting some 24mm spacers for the crankset shaft to push out the crank and 3mm worth of spacers did the trick. Found out after from VB about the 46T chainring minimum.

Fantastic looking bike! I just have a question regarding the quote above. What BB are you running?
What perplexes me is that 34t ring rubs against the frame but 46t does not. Shouldn't a smaller ring have more clearance than a larger one when it is closest to BB/chainstays?

Re: Any cheaper alternatives to Park's fancy allen wrenches? Don't fall for the silly marketing associated with cycling tool brands, and terms like "shop quality"

There are companies, like Bondhus, that supply aerospace and automotive factories (I've seen them there). A set of their t-handle hexes start around $50 USD. If it's good enough for the people that put together the planes your fly on, they'll be more than fine for your open mold bike, or any high end bike.

Just look for a set that is comfortable, is long enough to reach the things you need (like water bottle cage bolts), has a lifetime warranty, and preferably get them from a local store where you can deal with any warranty issues that come up (should be rare in my experience). I would spend around $30-60 USD for a set, and use the savings elsewhere.

Re: Groupset News Total capacity refers to the amount of slack the cage can take up.  For a 1x, it's max vs min cog, a 9-46t would need 37t capacity.  For a 2x example, an 11-32t with 50/34 chainrings would need (32-11)+(50-34) = (21)+(16) = 37t as well.  What you need to find out is the max cog size.  I would guess that since max cog size isn't listed (in the descriptions I looked up) and it's usually paired with 11-30t or 11-34t cassettes, that it's unlikely to work well with a 46t max cog.  I would rather find a rear derailleur with same pull ratio than use a big drop bracket.
