Re: Velobuild VB-R-177
Awesome summary of your experience on the 177 patliean1, thank you. I've been riding a 168 for almost 2 years now (May 2021) and have been super happy with it. I have a 177 on the way and excited to look out for the differences you pointed out between the two.

Probably a good time to follow up with my thoughts on the 177. Anecdotal of course, so take with a grain of salt.

1. By and large I think the 177 is the better frame versus the 168. It's lighter, much stiffer, and I've found it to be more responsive of a riding experience. EPS molding if that's important to you. The geometry is more forgiving as well.

2. I've tested both the 168 and 177 with a variety of wheels: Winspace Hypers, Farports EVO, Elite Drive, and VeloBuild's own 38mm depth road wheels. This is where the differences in the frames became most apparent. The 177 comes alive with quality wheels. Despite most of the aforementioned wheels being stiff race wheels they felt somewhat soft under load with the 168. Marginal but noticeable. While the 168 is an aero frame (and arguably looks faster), you can easily slap some aero wheels on the 177 as well as optimize your on-bike position.

3. Velobuild's 38mm depth road wheels - Yes they're heavy but retail is only $339 USD. 1778g for what is suppose to be climbing wheels. Very noticeable on bad pavement and upon acceleration. Steel spokes and Novatec's cheapest generic hubs. For an ULTIMATE budget build where weight isn't a priority they are probably fine. Overall system weight is still more important. Sidenote...Novatec's top-tier hubs on the other hand are fantastic and I run them on my gravel wheels.

4. Front derailleur cable port - If you're running mechanical shift cables, routing and setting up the FD will most likely account for half of the entire time you spend on the bike build itself. The 177, 168, and CX-002 all use this style of cable port. Just be patient...

5. Separate Stem Combo - We can all agree the supplied stem which comes with the separate bar/stem combo is flawed in its design. VB updated the supplied metal C-ring/clip and removed the metal tabs, however you may still find difficulty removing all the headset slack/play. A fool-proof alternative is to opt for the integrated handlebars, use FSA's ACR system, or my favorite which is the FSA no.69 headset if you need to run your own stem. Hoping one day VB offers a separate stem with internal routing capabilities but with a tradition round top-cap design.

So for $500+shipping you get a classic looking frame resembling an S-Works SL6, a non-proprietary seatpost, and a frameset that comes in well under 1000g without paint and hardware. Solid if you ask me. Sadly I had disassemble my 177 (for a 2nd time) to donor the components for another build.

I'm running SRAM eTap on my VB CX-002 frame and the setup/experience is so awesome...I'm most likely gonna rebuild my 177 yet again but also use eTap. Make it my travel/climbing/holiday bike. Won't have to worry about FD routing issues either. THIS IS THE WAY.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Build is finally done! Pretty happy with the Spechinalized S-Wok  :D

It’s a tribute to PatLino. I know you can’t get enough of my decals!  ;D

Re: Carbonda Cfr 1056 Hi all. I wanted to share a pic of my completed CFR1056 build as well as thank everyone for the contributions to this thread that helped me figure it all out. This is my first bike build, so there was a ton of learning in the process. A particular thank you to "2old2mould" for sharing his file for design that I leveraged in communicating with Wing. Details on what I ended up with:

The big stuff:
Frame: FM1056 Size M. (I'm 5'10 w/ 32" inseam and not super fit/flexy). Internal routing. 2-tone paint glossy.
Bottom Bracket: BSA-68
Groupset: Shimano 105 r7000. Hydraulic disc brakes, 11 speed.
Wheels: Elitewheels ENT Disc. 45mm depth; 28mm external width. Tubeless compatible.
Tires: Continental Grand Prix S TR - 28mm
Power Meter: Stages L Side for Shimano r7000
Stem: FSA SMR ACR Stem - 90mm
Headset: NO. 55R 1.5" ACR STD
Handlebar: Ritchey WCS Streem Internal Routing Handlebar
Pedals: SHIMANO PDM520 Clipless SPD

The little stuff:
Hydraulic Hoses: Shimano SM-BH90 Disc Brake Hose
Shifter Cables: Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 Shift Cable Set
Tubeless Tape: Zukka Tubeless Tape 23mm
Handlebar Pads: Selle Italia Bar Tape Shock Absorbing Pads
Bar Tape: Domain Cycling Handlebar Tape & Bar Ends (94" x 1.2")

Build Learnings: Building the bike was an adventure and YouTube intensive. I had three major issues. First, an end cap for the front wheel hub went missing during the build, and since I didn't know better, I didn't realize a part was missing. This required finding a replacement. As the wheels are from a China based company, that took a lot of work to get sorted out. Checking for loose pieces everywhere before throwing out packaging would have saved me from this. Second, the original lock ring I had for the front brake rotor was too large and rubbed against the fork. I had to swap to a TRP Centerlock ring that was angled (narrow on the outside edge) to create space. Third, the holes for the rear brake caliper were slightly misaligned. This created rub between the brake pads and the rotor even without squeezing the brake levers. My local bike shop was unable to fix this issue, and Wing wasn't responsive. After ~50 miles of riding, the brake pads wore down a bit to allow free movement, but it feels like riding into a headwind until that happens. Will be annoying with each new set of pads. Fourth, while I wanted to go fully integrated, I wasn't sure on fit and feel. So I used the semi-integrated cabling route through the stem to allow some extra cable length. Once I've dialed everything in, I may go through the effort of routing through the handlebar directly and going fully integrated.

I did have my local shop complete an inspection/tune on the bike before riding it, and they found a few mistakes I made and corrected them. I highly recommend going that route if this is your first build or you lack 100% confidence in your skills. Overall, great experience.

Re: Caved in and ordered a clearance Spcycle SP-027D Frameset I just received my Spcycle SP-027D disc frameset. I asked for a glossy finish because I'm a sucker for shiny things, plus it's easy to fix small scratches using my wife's clear nail polish gel. It took exactly 18 days from ordering on AliEx to my front doorstep. They informed me it would take 10-11 days for the glossy finish, but the actual ship time took 7 days exact via FedEx Global (3/23 to 3/29).  Everything was securely packaged when it arrived. I asked that the disc mount bolt holes be properly faced and everything looks to be true. I measured the bottom bracket holes and they seem to be perfectly circular as well. The clear coat and paint job look good as well. The only area that looks a bit sloppy was the FD hole mount, but it just looks like extra clear coat residue. I ordered a 49cm and I weighed the frame at about 1130g. Not S-Work Aethos light by any means since it's an aero design, but the frame itself appears to be sturdy. Plus I've easily hill climb dropped the weekend Fred's on their Aethos frames so it's more about the rider.

Anyways, this whole build is going to be super budget, though I haven't decided if I want to stick to my original plan and go 1x with a 44/11-32t setup or go with a 2x 46:30/11-32t climbing setup? Overall Spcycle seemed decent to order from, but their communication is so-so. Though their shipping is a 9.5/10. Quite fast!

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Finally... Done! (Sorry for the english, I´m not native).

The components are mainly:

-Velobuild framset, integrated handlebar and bits.
- Sram Rival axs with 48-35 cranks
- Cassete Wuzei 11-34
- CSC 45MM 28MM Widht (1525g)
- Tyres Schwalbe ONE (not de pro) TLR 28c
- Aliexpress Gineyea BB
- Favero Assioma Duo Pedals

Size 54, weight about 8.1/8.2kg with pedals, bottle cages and Garmin mount.
Very happy becouse tyres and cranks are a bit, bit heavy, so under 8, easy.
Price (excluding pedals and cages) under 2k.

I have been riding a rim  CAAD12 with 50mm tubular wheels and mechanic Ultegra for the last 4 years, comparing with that, the Velobuild is by far more comfortable, but far far far away.
It could the tubeless setup with 28c, the frame... But rides surprisingly smooth.
Handling is superb, fast and nimble, I´m not a profesional tester so... Not much to say... It´s a copy of an SL7, a great bike, so the behabiour is fantastic.
Rigidty... Well... I weight about 67kg, so not much peak power... I put some 800/900W peak sprints and all ok, no creaks, bikes acelerates fast.

In the end very happy, with the bike. I just hope it lasts!!!

Re: Caved in and ordered a clearance Spcycle SP-027D Frameset I finally finished this bike build! It took me longer than expected of about 1 1/2 days. Everything was going smooth until I noticed the rear TA dropouts were slightly loose. I had to really tighten the rear TA to have it sit snug. I installed a ZTTO PF bottom bracket and that definitely was a headache. It probably didn't help I had a few shots of tequila while installing it. I'll make sure to get a threaded BSA or T47 frameset next time! Indexing carbon Sensah Team Pro shifters to work with my 105 R7000 was a PITA, I had to pull super hard on the shift cable. In fact Sensah did some tweaks that make it different from the Sensah alloy shifters I was using. Also the front fork cable hole was too small causing even more cable routing headaches.

Every time I build a bike, I think it's going to be easy and it never is! I consider this bike somewhat of a proof of concept build using mostly AliEx parts. Though I'm partial to Shimano derailleurs. Time to ride the bike!

Re: 2022 Cervelo S5 Also availability: I never set out to buy a fake Dogma. I went to my LBS thinking about actually buying a new road bike in the middle of covid supply chain issues. I was told I’d probably have to wait two years upon ordering and even that would not be a guarantee. So I decided to stick with my wheels and groupset for the time being which meant staying with rim brakes. But knowing where the bike industry is going I accept that at some point high end rim brake stuff will be harder and harder to get. So I wasn’t going to shell out thousands for a rim brake frame and I certainly wasn’t going to pay 6 grand for a rim brake Dogma F frameset. There’s next to no direct mount rim brake frames from China with modern shapes and cable integration available. So that’s why I went with the VB 218. I’d never stick decals on it to make it look like the real thing, though.
Now had I found an equivalent non counterfeit option, I’d probably have picked that. But with all that said, I’m very pleased with the bike.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame

Almost finished. Still deciding on bar tape. I have some black Supacaz and some blue Lizard Skins. The blue isn't the exact shade as the frame, and I'm not sure it would be too much blue.

Re: Carbonda CFR 1056 or VeloBuild 177? I'm on a VeloBuild VB-R-168 right now for road and have a 177 on order as I also want to compare the stiffness.

Re: Velo Build R-099 Build Here's my build so far. Still suffering with the headset play issue though. I ordered some microspacers and hope this will take care of the problem.
