Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame Realized I never posted completed bike
Completed for around $2200 with all mistakes included
- Sensah Empire x SRAM components
- FSA headset for ease of service and adjustment
- Bars and stem from OG-EVKIN
- Rims from Peter on this forum, I built them myself on Ryet hubs

Dialing in fit still but very happy with the miles I've done so far.
Only issue I've had is the VB bottle cages, one of them had the bottom tab fail

Re: For those of you looking at cable disc brakes... So I ended up pulling the trigger after thinking about it for way too long and they just arrived. Just a quick look for now.
I have a build idea in mind and will be sure to post updates once I get try them out.

Re: 2022 - Rotor recommendations? Just ordered a pair of the new centerlock ONIRII rotors: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804989446940.html

I imagine these are the replacement design that was released after the fiasco with the previous version (now sold by KACTUS and ROCKBROS) breaking apart under high load/heat. They seem to have more conventional and stronger 6-pin floating rotor design like SRAM and Shimano do. A bit thicker than the previous version too at 1.8mm.

I did have a little snag with ordering the correct version, they were listed as "centerlock" but the photo featured the 6-bolt design. I went ahead and ordered the centerlock option anyways. A couple weeks later I notice I had an unread message from the ONIRII store, they had messaged a photo of my order with the receipt...and in it was a pair of 6-bolt rotors instead of the centerlocks that I had ordered. I messaged them back and let them know that those were not the centerlocks I ordered. They replied right away with a link to a product page for a $1 shipping change, which I obliged to. Seems I will get to keep the 6-bolt set as far a I can tell for the moment.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! Need to see more of this seller! hahaha thanks for a laugh. After reading reviews on many products I often wonder if some people should be buying parts online and working on bikes on their own.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! I just received my Onirii CD-02 center lock disc rotors and took them on a 31 mile ride which included climbing and fast descents. I'm thoroughly impressed. They brake well and look cool. Also they make a whooshing sound when hard braking on the downhill. Not sure if there's any performance benefit, but it didn't hurt the braking performance either. Weight of rotors was about 102g, lockring was 9g. Though I opted to use my Shimano lockring that uses the cassette tool (as opposed to a BB tool) which is about 11g.

I also picked up an UNO AL7050 stem. Mounted with titanium stem bolts, it comes under sub 100g easily. Fit and finish are top notch as well. The bar clamp comes with two separate pieces. Clamp fit is clean with barely any gaps.

On a side note, I guess Chinese cycling gear is starting to become more popular. On a group ride this morning, a few cyclists were really curious about my setup since they've been watching YT channels like China Cycling. If Panda Podium takes off and can offer solid support, it might help open the door to a wider audience.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! 2 months in on the Onirii CD02 rotors checking in here. I've put in about 500 miles on them so far. I'll echo the same thoughts, they're nice and super light rotors for the price. Only thing I'll knock them for is size of the holes, they're so large I think they're actually losing potential surface area for shedding heat, I've gotten them to temporarily warp to the point they hit the pads when released after some heavy braking a few times. I also question if their design acts as a cheese grater on my brake pads. I don't live in a mountainous area so heat management is not really an issue for me. To their credit they bounce back after getting heated, which means the floating rotor design is working as intended. I've done a couple of races in the lower mountains in the northeast with huge braking zones and they didn't have major issues beyond a little temporary warp. But I would probably feel nervous coming down a long series of switchbacks.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
Whatabout-what?  I wonder what the disc pads I purchased a year ago off Aliexpress are made out of:  Sintered compressed dirt end Elmers glue?.   They appear to wear really fast.  Or perhaps I stop a lot?   Hmmm

From aliexpress? Obviously they're made out of tracking nanoparticles secretly made by the chinese government in collaboration with all the aliexpress brake pad manufacturers. They wear quicker because they leave tracking dust on the floor and the satellites pick up your movement. While everyone is worried about being tracked by apps, this is how they getcha. Thought everyone knew this?

Re: Elves Falath EVO 2023 I'm glad you went ahead with this frame. This thread was getting very tiring.

Wishes for the build, looking forward to final result.
