Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803455977621.html

I wanted to add some long term feedback on the hollowed out Goldix alloy crankset I purchased awhile back. I guess I jumped the gun and Trace Velo was right about the creaking issues!

After continued use, I noticed creaking with crankset under load (low gear climbing) on my pressfit BB carbon bike. I removed the BB, re-greased it and made sure it was properly secure. The crankset continued to creak. I swapped out the crankset for my Racework carbon crankset and the creaking stopped. I then tried this Goldix crankset on my BSA threaded alloy gravel bike and there was no creaking under load. So it seems this crankset will definitely creak on pressfit carbon bikes. Though I can't confirm if this also applies to BSA threaded carbon bikes.

If you do buy this crankset, I can only recommend it for BSA threaded bikes that are either alloy and/or possibly steel. I had temporarily swapped back my GRX 600 crankset to my gravel bike and it felt so heavy with the steel axle. So I'm glad I didn't have to toss the Goldix crankset to the recycle bin!

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! Regarding a full suspension Gravel bike, I am not interested because If I want/need full suspension, I would base the bike on a mtn. bike geometry and would want higher BB/crank ground clearance because if I am riding on trails that require Full suspension then I would want a minimum of a 100mm travel front fork and would likely get way to many crank arm strikes with a full suspension gravel frame geometry.  It has become easy to put on some sort of drop bar on a lightweight 29er hardtail and use narrower tires if you want the 29er to mimic a gravel bike, and have a more capable bike overall than a regular gravel bike.  In my lower power old age,  I am opting for a 1X12 drivetrain for all my off road riding rather than a 2 X 10/11/12 set-up.
I have been thinking about purchasing the Lexon Spirit frame and setting it up as a trail/gravel bike.  This frame would probably work better than a full suspension gravel frame and be a lot more capable overall.

[Gravelised MTB vs. Dedicated gravel frame]

I tend to agree on the bb-height aspect. But, apart from other geometric differences, sideways crank clearance may still be an issue for some people (as in: low Q wanted). Or maybe not so much, with everything going comically wide nowadays (I guess they just make better hip and knee joints these days so stance on a bike just isn't an issue any more). Sorry for the rambling and being off-topic.

However, I find that gravel fully a very interesting find and think they might be on to something. Maybe gravel becoming the new old mountain bikes ...

Re: Chinese cycling clothes
I was looking for a pair of cargo bib, after reading some positive feed i've bought a pair of Spexcel cargo bib. I've only ridden them for some 2.5 hours rides but they're performing as good as my other European pair (Montura with Elastic interface chamois).

I've never owned a 3D printed saddle before, so I can't compare the comfort to other name brands. I've yet to put a proper ride in with it

I have yet to find a problem for this solution. Did you buy it for the looks? Serious question (because that, I would totally get).

Going off on a tangent, I feel like "3D printing" is used way too much for marketing buzz these days, as if it was some super awesome bordering-on-magic rocket technology stuff and better at everything, just by default.

Re: Chinese cycling clothes
Update on the Spexcel pro team bibs: These bibs do feel better on my other bike with an SWORKS Power Saddle. But still not great. I could eventually get comfy on the chamois. But the fabric makes me slide around on the saddle much more than my other bibs which is annoying. And the chamois tends to bulk up in all the wrong places, therefore leading to uneven distribution of pressure. It’s better when I’m forcing myself to sit far back on the saddle and as much on my sit bones as possible. Also, these bibs seems to get comfier the more I ride them. Maybe the chamois “breaks in” somehow. But I wouldn’t trust these bibs for a gran fondo or a really really long ride.

The jersey is so good on the other hand that I bought a second one in a different Color.

I've had 3 of these bibs pad fail over time as the pad bunched up in all the wrong places and at the end separated.

I've done 7 hour rides with them but they are not long lasting.

Have you noticed them rattling around at all?
They don't rattle on the roughest of trails for gravel bikes (as long as you make sure the bottle slides into the slot and not placed on the magnets, my rookie mistake).

The aero ones on my crit bike survived a forward flip at 35kph and abrupt stop.

Re: Carbon spokes or CX Ray? Sorry in advance, I'm not purposely trying to be a pita, but what is this responsiveness thing?
I mean, it surely is not about transferring rotation from the propelled hub to the rim. I'll go out on a limb and just say windup isn't really a thing in cross-laced bicycle wheels (unless you do some crazy shit like trials).
Is it about the wheel responding to the ground as best it could? According to some, wheels with a bit of self-steer (aka sideways flex) would actually fare better in that regard.
Or is it about the wheel reporting road roughness back to the rider (not that anybody would want that)? While overall stiffness would help a little in theory, it's mostly down to the tires.
Or is it just about the wheels feeling, like, reeeaaaaally good when accelerating, go woosh and give you a fat grin? Just go a fair bit lighter than what you had before.

Re: Mounting tubeless tires on a new wheelset This is a common problem, and the solution is often to just put 1-2 more layers of rim tape to make the fit a bit tighter.

Re: Shimano groups on AliEx +1. Anrancee / Yiwu Donglue definitely the better stores for Shimano groupsets on Alix. One of the fastest shipping too.
