Re: Yishunbike G095D (Speed Gravel) Frame looks great. Aero features with gravel properties. Have you reached out to Yishun to check if they sell it direct to consumer and price?

Re: What lube? Been waxing my chains for years, it's awesome. So clean! It's meant to save a few watts too. Followed the videos from that autistic Australian guy.
Have i mentioned how clean they make the bike?
:D

I use a metal bowl over boiling water (bain marie in french), instead of a rice cooker. As far as i can tell, it does the same thing.

Differences between Sensah carbon and alloy shifters? I just wanted to chime in my experiences using the Sensah Team Pro shifters which are 11 speed Shimano compatible in both carbon and alloy. The alloy version can be purchased for about $55 USD and the carbon version can be purchased under $120 USD or about $100 during the holiday sales. My initial experiences with the alloy version was fairly neutral. They worked fine, but I didn't find them better than 11 speed 105 shifters. Brake feel wasn't anything special and shift performance is decent. Though having used the carbon version, they just feel better. The braking is more responsive and easier to dial in. Also the shifting is a bit more crisp. In fact I've become so accustomed to the carbon version of these shifters, I've decided to install them both on my 2x and 1x road bikes.

Anyways, I would presume the internals would be the same with only the levers being different materials, so I'm not sure why the carbon shifters would have a more precise feel? I have no experience with the Sensah Empire shifters, but I'm guessing the tactile haptics would be similar as well. Is it possible due to the slightly higher cost, the carbon version just has better quality control?

Curious what everyone thinks?

Re: LTWOO ER9 & ERX - Electronic groepsets I doubt there will be er9. The erx is 11 or 12 speed. Pretty sure I saw the erx in aluminum. So that is probably all the options unless they add gravel/mtb derailleurs.  Be sure to watch ltwoo setup video if you buy the erx.  It will get you setup way faster than just guessing. The app also has the instruction manual.

Velobuild GF-002 Bikepacking build.

Just finished my Velobuild GF-002 build and wanted to share.

The build was good fun but being my first time building a bike it was a struggle at points. The hardest part was internal routing 4x hoses including 2x Jagwire compressionless shift housings. I am also struggling to the get the front derailleur to shift up properly so need to do some more tinkering there.

Issues:

The rear brake flat mount on the GF-002 was completely off so I took it to a LBS to face the mount which worked, sadly they soaked the brake pads in mineral oil in the process.  ::)

I originally asked Velobuild for British Racing Green in Gloss and gave them a pantone which they confirmed was ok before ordering. After paying they effectively said 'sorry we dont have' and said I can have the frame in a 'similar' colour which in person is akin to Satin Army Green. Not what I was going for. Wasnt impressed with the paint quality either, there are noticeable edges where the colours change. Not gonna complain for a $60 paint job. I will eventually repaint myself.

EliteWheels originally sent out the wrong wheels so I disputed and asked for a partial refund, then sold the wrong wheels on eBay and re-ordered the right ones. Was not too impressed with their service on Aliexpress including asking me to 'close the case to get a refund' and refusing to re-send the correct wheels unless I paid extra. ::)

Re-ordered from them on another Ali account and had no issues. The wheels are the highlight of the build for me. 1320g @ 50mm depth 21mm internal and ratchet hubs for $620 is nice.

The TPU inner tubes have plastic stems which dont seem to seal properly, the tyres lose a decent amount of air every week. Might try some PTFE tape on the valve core threads.

I didnt research much in the saddle and will probably try a 3d printed one that TraceVelo recommended at some point, the Mixed one is pretty comfortable but I can see it getting a bit painful for 100+km days.

Impressions:

I have only ridden for about 100km or so but loving it so far, never had a drop bar bike so I didnt know what to expect. Aside from the FD not shifting up cleanly no issues so far. With the out of Shimano spec 11-40 cassette I need to be careful not to cross chain otherwise its not pretty. I'm already thinking the 34-40 gearing is a bit excessive and might switch to a 11-36 cassette or 1x but will wait for a while to tackle some more climbs.

I will go on some longer trips next month and hopefully multi-day bikepacking in September.  ;D

Components:

Velobuild GF002 Frame
EliteWheels Edge Disc
GRX600 2x11 Shifters
GRX810 Rear Derailleur With Sunrace SP570 Extended link
Shimano 105 Front Derailleur
11-40 SLX Cassette
ZRace 50-34 Chainset
Magene P505 Spider
GP5000 32mm tyres
Mixed 7D Saddle
Newboiler TPU inner tubes
IGPSport BSC200 head unit

Total cost was around £2200GBP

Weighs 8.3KG with pedals, no bottle cages.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for the FD shifting, I'm thinking it maybe a qfactor issue and will try to swap some spacers around to see if it helps as the low screw is bottomed out and I feel like the shift cage needs to be further out.

Re: Groupset News An little interesting rumor floating around: apparently Shimano's auto-trim patent will expire at the end of this year

No word on synchro shifting unfortunately

Re: Groupset News
I can't tell what they are at all. Hydraulic and electronic paddles?

Hydraulic braking, electronic shifting!

Even if they don't make their own groupset, I'd still appreciate a proper 3rd party brifter with satellite shifting function.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
I don't like these blatant copies. That's one step too far..
It's OK to call them counterfeits.

Re: Groupset News
Luke first on the scene as usual.

After watching his video with all these pre-production issues and the ugly silver lever caps, I'm seriously not interested. I'm someone who likes Sensah style shifting as well.

Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets I just received my GRT 12 speed groupset (aluminum version) and wanted to share some stuff I noticed that I haven't seen on this thread or other posts/videos before.

  • The derailleur pulleys are different sizes: 12 teeth on the guide pulley and 14 teeth on the tension pulley. They also run on sealed bearings and spin freely which is nice - one thing that really irks me about 105 is that Shimano uses pulleys with only bushings and they always seem to gum up.
  • The thumb shifter is matte plastic rather than glossy, and it doesn't have any branding on it. I like this - it's grippier than a glossy coating.
  • Both right and left brifters have retention clips for the hydraulic lines that prevent them from swiveling outwards. The clips are retained by two 2 mm screws in the rear of the body; when they're unscrewed the clip can be popped out and the lines can swivel outwards for easier installation if the hydraulic lines foul on the bars. But if the lines don't foul, I'd actually keep the clips in because they retain the nut so you only need one wrench to install the hydraulic line instead of two. This seems to be different than previous versions, or maybe just the carbon version? See Trace Velo's video here: https://youtu.be/NKNcKwiH6v0?t=928 where the nut seems to be held captive by the shape of the brifter's body rather than a separate retention system.

  • The shift lever has a 1.5 mm grub screw at its base which adjusts the shift paddle position independent of the brake lever. There's a ridiculous range of adjustment, way more than would ever be realistically used, but hey it's there anyway.

  • I screwed in the free stroke grub screw to see if I could replicate the rattling issue, and I wasn't able to, but maybe this will be an issue when the brakes are all set up.

I'm putting this groupset on my new commuter bike build which should be done in a few days (I still need to build the wheels...) - I'll see how it functions, if there's any break-in, etc, but my first impressions out of the box are good.
