Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
Sadly, Shimano's cranks aren't bullet proof eitherYes, since Ultegra 6800 days there are reports of cranks cracking. I will still bet on Shimano v/s anything comparable on Aliex though. My R6800 and R8000 cranks have been fine but I am not a pro putting down massive watts either. Two things you would never see me order from ali... carbon cranks and carbon cockpits. WAY too many horror stories for such little benefits.. Helmets too, IMO. However, admittedly I haven't seen any bad reports about helmets on Aliex...its just personal preference. Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts
Excellent Service! I've been riding my L standard frame for two and a half year pretty hard and some weeks ago it feel different. It felt like something was loose in the backend. After inspection I found a crack in the chain stay on the right side at the smallest part near the attached chrome part (Chain ring protection) Contacted Wing at Carbonda and got an reply in a day. Carbonda sent a new triangle for free after some discussions and that was not what I've expected from them! Makes me convinced that they are a serious company with great customer care in focus. Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets
Update to my previous post. I built up the bike and have gotten a bit of time in on it - not enough for any real judgements but enough for first impressions. Build notes:
Some impressions from the brief amount of time I've put on this groupset:
I probably won't update again until I've put a lot of miles on this setup, or until an issue arises. I got this groupset hoping it would be a fairly cheap, moderately high-performance, reliable groupset for my commuter/all-around bike, and it seems like it'll fulfill that role admirably. Re: Newish ZEROING crankset - Ingrid clone
Depends on the crankset. The Racework carbon crankset is about 377g and the Goldix/Zeroing crankset w/hollowed out crank arms is about 475-480g. In order to match those weights, you have to go Dura Ace of SRAM Red at a significantly higher cost. I did some digging, found weight for non-Shimano spindles - 160g for steel, 90mm for alloy. 70 grams savings is less than 0.1% of total system weight (typical accuracy of digital scales is 0.1%). Comprimising the durability of one of the highest stress areas for literally meaningless gains is not what I'd recommend. August 30, 2023, 01:49:33 AM |

Re: Groupset News
Will those shift buttons also appear on the ERX? You can try this site instead No American shareholders to my knowledge, but some Chinese investors have significant global presence and financial heft (Hillhouse) Those shift buttons and calipers will absolutely make their way to eRX/eR9 as running changes, they're a small company that can't afford to maintain many SKUs. Same reason why the mechanical hydraulic brifters are built so cheaply: the same shifter bodies and plastic gear levers are shared all the way from R5 9s to RX 12s. September 06, 2023, 10:13:57 PM |

Re: Groupset News
Just spotted Sensah Empire HRD 11 speed for sale on Aliexpress. Price is $249 for shifters, disc brake calipers, and derailleurs. Looks promising! Thanks for that - I've done a little groupset comparison for anyone interested in the current state of the market for hydraulic groupsets. I have used official store prices for Ltwoo and Sensah. All items are shifters, brakes and derailleurs unless indicated otherwise. All prices include postage where relevant (to Australia - not sure how it differs for other markets). Re: Carbonda FM909
Here is my bling build ! Finally in the blue I wanted... With the XX transmission + blip box + multi-click blips, this time without 3D printing needs. Click right for a harder gear, click left for an easier gear, when both are clicked it's for the seatpost. Unfortunately the wireless blips(no more expensive blip box needed) do not have yet the option/firmware? for the seatpost action. The 2024 SID fork 110mm and SIDluxe shock, they have 3 positions now. I was about to start the build, when the 2024 models arrived in the ... matching color, so I returned both to r2-bike, and ordered these instead. Lightbicyle XC924 wheels, with aero carbon spokes at 1035g ![]() I took off the Piccola brakes from my FM936(replacing them by ONIRII ones) One special mention for Fire Spider https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1100268111 for the bar, excellent product and great contact with the seller. Fire Spider are the higher end products of Toseek. It has all the holes to pass the cables, hoses with internal routing(I know top bearings rust... but it's so cute ![]() I'll order a longer front hose to make it internal too, and drill the fork steerer. I did 2 rides of about 70km so far. With impossible objectivity ![]() Especially when climbing. Love it !! September 10, 2023, 11:54:05 AM |

Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets
I've recently built a V-BR099 with LTWOO RX12. I was most impressed by the shifters and brakes. The quality is really impressive for the money. The brakes work fine. Everything is super straightforward. Bleeding was easy (once you realize that you need to back off the little reach adjust grub screw in the lever completely in order for the master cylinder to go into the zero position and not block the oil flow). I like that the FD has its own cable stop and cable tension adjustment mechanism. That makes a lot of sense particularly for fully internally routed frames. You can just run the housing all the way to the FD and adjust the cable tension there. No need for stupid cable stop designs in the frame. I was least impressed by the RD. The whole thing looks just a bit cheap. The derailleur cage is made of carbon on the outside (which honestly seems to be more for looks than for stiffness) while the inside is made of some sort of polymer (which arrived slightly bent and I had to bend it back into shape - the seller promised to send a spare derailleur cage). The cable routing is just borderline stupid. Like other people have said already, the cable has to make a super tight turn from the barrel adjuster to where it is clamped down on the RD parallelogram. Therefore, it severely rubs agains the RD housing. I used some liner between barrel adjuster and the clamping screw to alleviate the problem. But still, it's just a very bad design. It shifts fine. Not stellar but fine. I wasn't able to get it noise free in the stand. Paired with a ZTTO 11-34 12sp cassette, there was always a clicky gear on either end of the cassette. Curiously though, on the road when shifting under load it is not an issue. So that's fine, I guess. Lastly, the brifters are obviously Campagnolo copies internally. I'm running the original 12sp Campagnolo Record on my rim brake Velobuild VB-R218 which uses the same kind of mechanism (Campagnolo Ultra Shift). I can say that the LTWOO thumb paddle requires significantly more force and is harder to shift accurately and not overshift compared to Campag. Time will tell if with further use the action gets easier. Campag are more or less producing this tech ever since their first ergopower 8sp shifters came out so I guess they had 30+ years to perfect it. For the money, I think it's a great groupset but IMO especially the RD can be improved. If the cable pull ratio is identical, I'd probably put a 12sp 105 derailleur on there and be done with it. Re: Carbonda FM909
It is half a kilo lighter. This can help in that feeling, especially in the climbs. Yes the wheels seems easier to accelerate, but mostly I feel them much stiffer. I did an enduro week with my 936 and SID 120mm, not sure why but I guess I wouldn't go with the 110mm. In my usual trails, which are XC like, I didn't feel I lost anything with the smaller fork. I didn't investigate more, but the top of the head tube is vertically 25mm lower from the ground. This may explain why I felt initially being more over the bike with the 909, than in the bike with the 936. Are you able to know how this feeling is influenced by the differents components vs your 936, especially the wheels which are probably much more faster? September 21, 2023, 12:11:10 AM |

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts
I’m thinking of retiring my 936. I have 1500 miles on it. The drive side chainstay is failing (due to a lame attempt to ride through a cinder block garden) and the drivetrain is 11sp (same cassette for all 1500miles, one chain swap). Nope...I did 15000km on it and still loving it. I still don't think there are better frames out there for the same price...maybe the 909 which has uds(isn't it?) And two bottle option. A new frame will definitely trigger any wife...replacing only the rear will probably not October 13, 2023, 12:15:24 AM |
