Re: Plz help wheel newb! How to pick? What to pick? Want carbon mtb 29er wheels! +1 on all of the above. Personally, I would never buy from an AliExpress seller with a rating under 95%, and at least in business for a while. If something feels off, stay away! There are lots of good stores for wheels. I’ve just bought my second set of rims from speedsafe, for example. Elite Wheels seems good too.

Re: AM831 competitors? Help knudge me over! Sorry guys, yeah it was 230x57.5.  It was correct in the original post.

Anyway, yeah that shock won't work so I will have to sell and get another one with the correct size.  I pulled the trigger on the AM831 already so it's done.  I was interested in the other two as well but for $200 less shipped and colored, I'll go the AM831 route instead.  Thx

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
What torque specs are everyone using for the shock mounts?

I asked Eddy and didn't get an answer so I've been using 10nm.  Bolt checks before rides and nothing has been loose so far.

Re: AM831 competitors? Help knudge me over!
Congrats. So where did you buy it? I got mine from Winow on Aliexpress, missed the group buy deal from Haideli, but a few problems have been reported on the Haideli version, none of which I had with the Winow version... Am I lucky, or is there a quality difference between the various AM831 manufacturers?
None of them will say this, but I'm pretty sure they're all from the same factory. When working on the group buy, I contacted many different vendors about the AM831. Only one of them claimed that they were the manufacturer.  They also said it didn’t matter where I got the frame, it was coming from their factory.

I figure it's probably true based on all the vendors starting to deliver frames at the same time. We waited a long time and no one had frames.  Then all the sudden, everyone has frames.

Re: AM831 competitors? Help knudge me over!
I've completed to build my AM831, light version 12.3 Kg. It's a great bike to ride, fast as XC uphill and good downhill, but I still need to tune the suspensions. Concerning the "problems" being a new frame it had  a lot of small issues that I (and the others) fixed while building the bike; you can read all of them in the big thread here.

I know I am retarded but can someone pls point me to the Big Thread? Is this is big group buy thread?

How to know which shock mounting hardware? From the AM831 posts, I see this:

8x22mm rear shock mounting hardware (linkage side, need to confirm exact measurement)

I have a basic Fox Performance Float DPS shock.  I'll be getting the m8x30 for the frame side.

Searching around via google, looks like there's a m8x22.2, m8x21.84, m8x21.54, m8x20, m8x19.

How do we know which one to order?

Re: Monsuta x Snacks AM831 build Zorinena, have a look at the Durolux and Auron range from SR Suntour.  I recently picked up their latest Auron35 Boost and could not be happier with it.  For me, it shits all over any Fox fork I have owned.

Using "First order" will get 10% off

Re: Which crankset fits BB92 Bottom bracket for AM831?
This is the ZTTO one we referenced https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33023047002.html

Just a warning that some people may find this BB too wide for their cranks.  The flanges are wider than "branded" stuff and the double lipped plastic washer adds more width to the point that the crank arm doesn't engage the spindle enough.  You could get by with it but I wasn't happy with the insertion depth and swapped out bb's.

Re: Modern geo. Fat frame? I depends on where you ride.
A regular geometry on steep uphill would put too much weight on rear wheel and decrease traction. A steep seat tube angle allows to center the mass in this situation, have a better weight distribution and still ride the bike where you would have to hike a bike with a regular geo.

If you ride steep snow trails (mountains), enduro-like geometry (steep seat tube, slack head angle) will be helpfull both uphill and downhill.
If you ride flat trails with deep snow, regular geometry might be better.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
Any1 knows if a dvo topaz t3 will fit the frame? I know the santa cruz suspension design has quite tight tolerances due to the low shock mounting system

Plenty of room for the Topaz T3 but you may have some issues airing the bladder chamber depending on your shock pump.  As others said, it will fit most air shocks other than the ones with gear on the damper end like the Fox X2, Rockshox Vivid air, Cane Creek DB, etc.  Basically the same ones that won't fit on the HT v2.
