Re: 2023 VeloBuild CX-002 Cyclocross Frame You're welcome!

Updates: CX is here!  Overall, still really happy with the bike.

Issue: I'm not sure if it's headset related, but I have an issue where the stem loosens up over the course of a 2 hour ride, especially if it's a bumpy washboard gravel ride or a single-track ride.  From reading other forums about this topic, I think it may actually be the integrated handlebar stem clamp that may be the issue.  I'll keep playing around with it.  I upgraded the compression plug to a 90mm unit which seems to help, but overall, the system doesn't want to stay tight; the standard compression plug keep creeping up the steerer tube about 3mm.  I also managed to strip out the stem hardward, so I'll have to get a better set.

Tires: I also upgraded to some 40mm Pirelli Cinturato Gravel-M tires since the PP38's were just not gripping enough for me off road, likely since I'm used to 2.4/60mm MTB tires..  These definitely solve that issue.  BRR says they roll slightly slower than the PP38's, but I think it's negligible, and the cornering speed is only a little slower than my xc bike!

I also did a CX race with it.  I took off the 48T chain ring for extra clearance, so I was left with a 1x: 31 x 11-34, which was plenty for me at my current fitness level.  I'm still getting used to bunny hopping on drop bars, but overall, the frame is nice and sturdy!  The headset and stem were a little rattly at the end tho, so I'll keep fiddling with it.

Re: Carbonda 505SL Integrated Stem Got my CFR505-SL built up yesterday with Shimano GRX810! Still waiting for my wheel parts, so using a spare wheelset with 32mm tires until they arrive.

Did the inaugural ride ride today which was cut short by a slipping seatpost >:(. Carbonda forgot to include my seatpost clamp but immediately sent me one, which is in the mail. I'm using an old spare clamp I had, but it has never gripped well, even if the seatpost is slathered in carbon paste.

First impressions are that the bike is very comfortable, absorbs a lot of vibration from the road. I ordered the 420x90mm integrated handlebar, and I have to say the top is kinda narrow. I would say get at least a 20mm wider bar that your normal bar width. The drops are wide and very comfortable.

Re: japjoe7 Carbonda FM1001 build thread Got some more stuff I forgot to post the past few weeks. Tubolight wheel inserts, Tubolight valves, Stans tire sealant, Shimano brake oil, Shimano brake fittings, Secret Chain wax, Sram foam grips, RYET 3D carbon Aircode saddle.

Had high hopes for the saddle but just isn't for me. It's nice and cushy but hurst my butt only after riding half a street block. Looks like for now I'm sticking with the Avocet O2 Air 40R I've had for almost 20 years.

Re: Flybike Asia FM906-D Build Some more photos. Unboxed, uno stem cleansing, rough mock up with some busted parts. I did record a video, but I hate editing so it may be a while.
Currently waiting on my bottom bracket and handle bars. I had this old set of 105 shifters/brakes laying around, but the build is so nice I kind of want to find an upgrade. I might sell off some parts and try get an Ultegra hydro set.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707 My CFR707 is completed, and here are some photos of the new bike.

For the paint finish, I chose RAL5004 with added pearl sparkle. Its effect under sunlight is absolutely perfect, shining and dazzling. However, the paint finish details are not particularly perfect, with slightly sloppy transitions, and the overall paint quality is passable, probably at a 7.5/10 level.

The frame is a semi-internal routing version, and I opted for the UDH hanger, which allows for maximum upgrade potential in the future without sacrificing support for standard derailleurs. The frame craftsmanship is flawless, with smooth inner walls. The only issue is that the cable guide cannot be fully inserted into the frame, which is related to my assembly sequence, and I can't solely blame Carbonda for the problem.

For the drivetrain, I chose the L-twoo GR9 hydraulic groupset. So far, it has been working well with precise shifting. I paired it with Shimano UR300 calipers and 180mm rotors for strong braking power. I also used the mineral brake fluid from EZmtb. They claim that this mineral brake fluid, labeled as #6, offers a lighter feel and can handle higher working temperatures compared to Shimano's original brake fluid. I will continue using this combination until any significant issues arise.

The complete configuration is listed in the last image, with all prices in Chinese Yuan and excluding shipping costs.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707

It's beautiful! Good to know that the 2.0 Race Kings will fit. What is the internal width of your rims? I have Maxxis Ramblers in 700x50 mm on 24 mm rims (internal width) and there's a bit of clearance but I wouldn't go too much bigger.

My wheel rim has an internal width of 22mm. However, the tire tread rubs against the rear chainstay of the frame. To resolve this, I applied a layer of transparent TPU protective film to the frame. The front fork does not need to worry about the same problem
I also have 50c Rambler tires, but I haven't installed them on the CFR707 yet. When I previously mounted the Rambler tires on the same wheelset, their actual width measured 47mm, slightly narrower than the current Rac King's 49mm. Additionally, the tread was less pronounced and easier to manage. Therefore, I don't think you need to worry about the width issue.

Re: Mechanical flat mount brakes
Thanks for all the feedback! It's interesting how there's such a range of opinions on the cable/hydraulic brakes.

Anyways, I found a cheap used pair of Tektro MD-C550 calipers (OEM version of the TRP Spyre) on eBay so I'm going to give those a shot. I will make sure to get good compressionless housing. I figure they will be adequate for my short commute.

I use trp spyre c with semi metalic pads for over 4 years now. I am a big strong dude and use this bike in all kind of gravel and singletracks. From flat rides, fast races, to ultra and mountian 200+ km events. When properly adjusted and jagwire compressionless housings those brakes never let me down.

Re: What lube?
On a related note, what do people recommend for removing the factory grease? I'm interested in finding the least nasty stuff that will do the job.

Hands down best option is buy an ultrasonic cleaner.  If you get a big enough one you can put cassettes and chainrings in there too.  Even jockey wheels and stuff if you are deep cleaning.
