Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
You are right, I am also seeing prices dropping a little bit... But a lot of items are also getting rather high shipping, sometime more than what the item is worth... The times of free shipping are over it seems  ::)

Which is interesting, because shipping rates for trans-Pacific shipping are nearly back to pre-COVID levels.

Re: Never gravelled before - need suggestions
Brands from China ?
Since I focused my attention to 29er hardtails, configured with drop bars, as my gravel grinders,  I haven't been keeping current on all the Aliexpress gravel bike frame offerings.   As I understand it, if the frame has accessory mounts on the fork and provisions for a rear rack, then in theory, the frame engineers have beefed up the frame to take more weight.
Here is one example I found on Aliexpress that appears to have the majority of the features that popular US gravel frames have these days.

Here is the same frame being sold by Spcycle My gravel frame, (different version than this one), came from Spcycle about 3 years ago. - I have a little over 7K miles on it, a lot of it on gravel and single track, I used it for 2 weekend bikepacking trips without issue.  I have ridden this bike hard on 10+ organized gravel groaners.

Edit add:  I found my Spcycle gravel frame to very stiff.  It handles well and rides great, but it beats the heck out of me on long descents with washouts and washboard.  I installed a PNW Coast dropper, and added silicon gel to my handlebars, but I still didn't like descending at higher speeds. I built up a custom 29er with a 100mm travel front fork and 2.2/2.0 tires. This has made all the difference in downhill comfort.  I can fly down gravel roads on the hardtail that I was scared sh*tless trying to go down at the same speeds on my gravel frame.   Climbing is a bit slower, but I am more of a tourist these days, no longer a racer, so climbing a bit slower on the 29er doesn't bother me.

Re: Consensus on replica frames ?? from what I understand, there are some different scenarios...
a. open mould frames, often different companies operating within the same factory and sharing moulds
b. replica moulds, reverse engineering to get to a frame design but with slight differences
c. counterfeit moulds, chinese factory manufactures for western brand, normally it's in the contract they should destroy the mould after the lifespan but it ends up continuing to be used - either the same factory or a friend/sister chinese company

If I remember correctly, it's Elves that produces (some?) Cervelo frames, I think that on some Francis Cade video he inspected the frame and it had some cervelo inner parts which indicated 'same component/same factory' situation. Or like this Ican/Factor situation below
I work in the home appliance industry and we go through similar stuff with our chinese suppliers/factories.

The thing that most people get wrong is that the manufacturing process and quality verification are much more important than the mould
if the chinese company just uses the same mould but has a shit process, then it's going to be a good looking frame but shit riding, and unreliable

that's not to piss on all replica frames, just that it's not that simple.. I honestly think that there are some companies that make replica's and could have a good process.. just that personally I prefer not to endorse and go with an open mould, for instance

Is it the same mould? I remember chris miller mentioning that some chinese company that does direct to consumer had the factor moulds and would start selling them this year, people were saying ICAN tho.

Re: LTWOO RX hydro sets
Was the hose damaged by friction/cut or was it a factory defect?

I think the hose was bent while routing it through the frame by the bottom bracket shell. I must have shoved it in a bit too hard. Saying that, the provided hoses are a lot more fragile compared to the Shimano hoses I use on my GRX equipped gravel bike.

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts Just finished installing the new 120mm link. A pain in the ass it was! I rather install new bearings in the bike.
Got the new link through the germin mtb forum for a reasonable price, but if I had bought it directly from Carbonda I would have returned it. The measurements where the mounting hardware should fit were of by almost 2mm. It should be 30mm it was nearly 28...so had to sand it in shape. But its done.
Hopefully it was worth the trouble going from 42.5 to 45mm stroke. There aren't much reviews of the new link, so bit of a gamble.
Also have to check if I didn't f#cked up the shim tune of my rsmdeluxe ultimate 2023. It was Low compression according to the rs website and trailhead app, but looked different when I opened it compared to the shim tune manual. If I did everything well it should be a medium compression tune now...maybe I will do the rebound as well(but it also looked different...).

We'll see tomorrow. Keep you posted.

Re: Shimano crank power meter

curious to have feedback from others about the xcadey brand...

BTW, 4iiii is a canadian company

I've been running an X-CADEY since summer 2022 after doing lots of research (too much). I had to adjust the software a little to get accurate readings (which was easy). Since I set it up I have had no problems at all and it communicates well with my Wahoo Bolt pushing to TrainerRoad. I did have a day when it mysteriously didn't work... and then I realized I had not charged it for 4 months  ;D

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
I've got some of these AXS pulley wheels from JRC Components on the way. Seems like a quality product, carried by many retailers (mainly in Europe).
I got mine here in the US on Amazon for ~$60. Anyone used these before?

amazon.com/dp/B09GCGMQ94?
jrc-components.com/collections/drive-train

The pulleys came super fast, literally the next morning, so I have a few rides on them already. I didn't take any photos before installing, so you get to see them on my dirty drivetrain  ;D I got the gunmetal color. So far so good, they don't spin as freely as the stock pulleys in my hand, but they do spin more quietly. On the bike the performance is unchanged but they definitely look 10x better :) and are a quieter as well.

I also got these Stone chainrings for AXS. The 48/33 tooth count is a bit strange as stock AXS rings come in 46/33 or 48/35. I think they look really nice and they save a few grams over the stock 46/33 rings. Just installed them, will report on these later.

Gravel Bafang mid-drive e-bike frames? Hello pretty people,
Are there gravel frames that take a Bafang mid drive motor?
I'm thinking 40C tyres, relaxed road bike geometry, Bafang BBS02 or similar mid-drive motor, and the battery somewhere.
I don't want an electric mountain bike, but i'd like a road bike that can take 40C tyres for comfort & versatility.
Thanks!

Re: Chinese cycling clothes
How do you get the 17.5€ price? I'm getting 21.6. Did you make a new account? This one has been in my cart for a couple weeks and it's always 22-24€
It is one of the superdeals at the moment. I also buy in USD and let the creditcard  company do the conversion. That's cheaper than buying in EUR from Ali
