Re: Welcome to Chinertown - Introduce Yourself! Hi, Nik in Glasgow Uk.

Just received a FM936 and really looking forward to building it and riding it.

I was directed to this forum from Singletrackworld.com where I've been a long term member. This is such a good place to get advice about what's good, what's not, and more importantly how well issues get dealt with.

cheers all.

Re: jstrawks' Carbonda CFR-1056 build thread
Stunning bike.

Mind sharing the total cost with everyone?

I believe it will come in just under $4k. When it's done I'll post all the details, including weights.

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts
That is pretty bloody good customer service right there. Just how long have you had the frame, time wise, not km's?

I spent months arguing with Felt over a cracked frame which they eventually denied.  fortunately for me I'm Aussie so as soon as I mentioned Department of Fair Trading to Wiggle they offered me a choice of two different frames.

I ride this frame with November 2020

Re: What's your go to bottom bracket? Wheels MFG.

I used a thread together BB86 for my Shimano crankset, then switched to their PF when I switched to a DUB crankset. Yeah, I'm enjoying the comparatively mild So Cal weather and mostly glass smooth roads, but I did take the bike back East for a couple of weeks. Rode a couple hundred miles through some torrential downpours, mud, grit, terrible roads, but the PF held up nicely. Still going with the original bearings.

Re: cybrsrce AM831 build
I may have missed an episode... What crack was this?
And more intriguing, what is this magic tape?

The rear end of the FM356 would always flex under torque but one day I noticed it was really bad after a rough day out.  It failed the knock test so I sanded it a bit to see how bad it was and it was all the way around right behind the chainring.  So I tried the FiberFix tape to see if I could get some tame rides in before getting a new bike and it is actually stronger now than I think it has ever been.  I'd been riding it with the "fix" on my regular trails (lots of black/double black rocky stuff) since August until last weekend and I think it could go on without issue.  Even cased a few, quite a few, tables on a jump line and it came out of it like nothing happened.

I used the FiberFix 1" tape since it was a tight space.  It is some sort of prepreg fiberglass I think, similar to what is used on casts for broken bones.

There are some youtube videos about it but this one is sort of close to what I did without cutting the frame.

Re: Stumpjumper clone I buy such frame in L size and white color from another aliexpress seller.
Briefly:
This is high modulus carbon frame like original SJ MY19.
But... i kill tread on one rear bolt (M12 body and M11x1 tread) - make new from В95Т1 alloy on home lathe.
Top eye shock M6x1 bolt was 90 degree champfer, but frame (as original) have 120 degree champfer... make new from В95Т1 alloy on home lathe.
There is no holes for place hosings in middle tube (as in original manual), but SWAT hile is absent and all housing plased in bottom tube.
I buy dropper OneUp v2 180mm. Frame have slight problem to place dropper more than 17cm, but i cut 1mm from diameter of dropper ass and get 22 cm!
Original bolts have rubber seal, i simple print TPU seal on printer.
Complect seat post clamp have ~40.5mm diameter instead 38.6mm, buy right item on aliexpress.
Original flipchip have big size and you need mill additional space in yoke if you whant it. As i understand that tight flipchip block bottom eye frop any rotation. But default china yoke set in "XC" position - not bad choice.

Geometry precisely mathed to info by aliexpress lots! But have no such geometries in linkage web base. See attached *.itx file for linkageX3 software.
For this frame maximum drive chain about 32T, but pedal efficiency at this 90..80%, if you move gravity mass to front - efficiency increase. I think that 28T (or may be 26T oval) and 9..42T cog wery good variant - for 28T drive antisquat about 100..110%.

Positives:
$800
Nice look.
Light weight (may be it good moment).
Compatible with  "old" common 210x55 shox - simple to find in sale section.

Negatives:
No SWAT! $(
No frame guards (use 3d printer...)
Decals above paint lyers. I use oraguard anti stone TPU film.
Frame have very thin wall in BB link region - may be this is normal, but...

Re: FM1001 / FM1156 - 135mm frame This is the perfect Porsche for this forum :)

(Just jesting though and yanking your chain, I'd rather drive your 928 than my mazda5)

Re: Elite Wheels - Hubs Question & Tubeless vs Clincher
Having almost no flats, and lower pressure for comfort are worth the small effort even for pure road riding.
Everybody could try a pair of tubeless tires once, use them until they die or being fed up, and make their own idea of it, instead of reading forums  ;)
In any case if you are shopping for new rims, take tubeless and get both options.

In line with what you are saying, I tried tubeless.  Don't know if I am head over heels in love with it compared to tubes, but I probably wont be going back.
Then again, I am using Michelin Power Road, which apparently are super easy to mount and I have an air compressor...

Re: New Wheel Day - Elite Wheels BWT Disc
I've ordered a set of ent disc, hope my hubs will be loud as yours, I would love that

I am afraid the ENTs will be pretty quiet.
I rode my old commuter the other day, which has silent Shimano hubs and I have come to realize:
When I am casually cycling to run some errands, I prefer silent
When I am doing a training session, or some sort of ride where I put in effort, I actually enjoy the noise:
  • It is a convenient way to warn those ahead of you that you are approaching from behind
  • It is a convenient way to remind you that you are being lazy and coasting  :D

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame

I also have a question around cable routing, specifically on the HB011 bar, how are you guys doing this?
  • Are you using the exit holes that are to the left and right of the computer mount (Example A image)
  • Are you using the single hole that is near the steerer tube (Example B image)
  • Are you using a mix of both, such as gear cables exit the steerer tube holes, brake cables (I'm running cable discs) exiting the computer mount holes

I'm just collating all of the parts I need for the build and am trying to visual how I'm going to put it all together  :)

Also curious about how people are running their cables and how many are using shift cable housing? I am currently having issues using disc brakes and jagwire shift cable housing to all fit at a 90 degree bend. I ended up taking the smallest spacer and cutting the front part of the spacer so that my brake cables can be non integrated into the handlebar.

Another question for those fitting hydraulic brake hose and shift cable housing, how did you get you headset/fork to stay straight? All the cables in the headtube keep pushing my fork and handlebars to the left.
