Re: Xiamen Carbon Speed 10 years anniversary special promotion
The eagle wing pattern looks like something the cycling crazy president of Turkmenistan would request.

Re: Xiamen Carbon Speed 10 years anniversary special promotion
Thanks, I do think you can use some carbon spokes with standard hubs but I may be mistaking. it will depend on spokes and hubs. My friend crashed one of Peter's wheels, and broke 4 steel (Pillar wing 20) spokes. I didn't have enough spares to repair it (from memory, the wheelset uses 3 different lengths, so the moment you break more than 1, the probability you have inventory goes down dramatically), and good luck sourcing these spokes outside of china at a good price. I guess i should have called wheel builders, now that i think of it, but even then, i bought rims without holes in the rim bed for easier tubeless setup and maximum strength, and i didn't want to spend 1 day repairing it. So, i bought a replacement wheel from Peter, ordered the missing spokes from him, and my friend got the 1st wheel repaired by his LBS, so now he can happily crash again and already has a spare ![]() So... if the hub isn't some weird ass bonded thing, and if you have spare carbon spokes of the right length, i dont think it makes a huge difference in terms of repair-ability. One key difference is stiffness though, if you run a beefy aero bike, with carbon spoked wheels, with 25mm tyres at 110psi, on bad tarmac, wear a mouth guard as your teeth will rattle. If you run wide tyres, tubeless, then if you ride on good enough roads, carbon spokes are probably a good idea if you care about performance. The price difference is decreasing, Peter typically quotes a good set of steel spoked wheels for ~500 and ~700 for carbon, so given that everything is expensive now, 200 bucks amortized over the life span of your bike, if not 2 or 3 bikes, seems pretty reasonable. I wonder if aliexpress sells spare spokes. i dont think i looked there either, now that i think of it. it'd make a ton of sense, they have such good agreements with shipping companies that you could probably source spares on demand easily. Aliexpress, now that it works flawlessly, pretty much, has transformed the way i source and build bikes. Can't understate the convenience of ordering exactly what you need when you need it, as opposed to over ordering stuff from china (Alibaba & the likes) and shipping large boxes. As to ride quality, i've bought 5 wheelsets from him, and we're all happy with them. A whole season on them, no issues. Peter seems to be very reliable OEM, and also, wheels are now so commoditized that as long as you order the right stuff from a reputable seller, i really dont see why you'd be disappointed. Peter lets you custom build anything, his pricing is competitive, and he doesnt force you to put logos on the wheels. For example, certain models from Elite are nice (although mostly their rims are too narrow), but i refuse to have my bikes look like Xmas trees covered in logos, unless they pay me, i'm not showing their logo. Re: Carbonspeed CS-GR01 gravel frame build thread
I just finished to build he frame, and here is my observations: 1. Paint choice consequences (part my responsibility). This is the most frustrating part of the build: I had to sand the paint the seat post a lot to make it enter into the frame. Moreover, it was also really hard to put the shifters on the handlebar, I had to destroy the paint at the curve of the handlebar. Solution: only paint the upper side of the seatpost, and only paint the stem and the part of the handlebar from the stem until the shifters clamp area. 2. Handlebar design. I find two issues: it was impossible to pass the cable inside the stem, and there is not enough space underneath the stem for the 4 cables to pass without being squeezed. I could not pass the shifting wire while the handlebar was installed. Hopefully, I manage to make it work. It took me a lot of experimentation to find the solution haha. 3. I am not a fan on the design of the derailleur hanger with the double screw system. Basically, I spent a lot of time (a few days more than my usual builds) because of the paint, but it looks gorgeous otherwise ![]() January 17, 2025, 09:25:15 AM |

Re: Replica Factor Ostro VAM
My long teng 268 ticks all these boxes. And it's officially very fast, says me. Honestly with anything I would listen to Serge here, never get the first iterations of something. I know everyone wants the "sexy" new v2 Ostro but it's the v1 that has been battle tested and proven by multiple purchasers. Right now all we have is photos of a bare v2 with a fake Darimo bar and no reviews that needs a 60 day lead time. If anything if you want the Faketor get a v1 they are plenty sexy and you know what you are getting. Also agreed on the side note Darimo stuff is expensive for a reason....it's already extremely light. I would *never* buy faux Darimo parts. Save your thousands on the frame and splurge on the other parts if you want that type of thing.... Just my 2 cents. February 13, 2025, 07:00:47 PM |

Re: Replica Factor Ostro VAM
confirmed same source from 1 factory/seller, I remember that familiar wood laminate as the backdrop. Also my frame was featured I asked myself that question when looking at different shops. I'd be careful with such assumptions, them using pictures to show the paintjobs or models doesnt mean it's frames they made themselves. Given how shady that market is, if they offer paint job X, and a competitor made such frame, they wont have issues using the picture to say it's an option. Obviously if all their pictures have the same backdrop, and you know for a fact that they re taking photos of frames they made themselves, then it's probably the same place / factory, but save for that, careful with assumptions.
