Re: Spcycle New Mold SP-R088 Carbon Road Frame
Hi, how does the Spcycle SP-R088 perform downhill?

I'm seriously considering buying it (I still ride a rim brake frame, and would like to upgrade to something more updated/modern)....although it looks quite a bit like the Tarmac SL8 (excluding head tube and fork), I think that compared to the Seraph TT- X68, this R088 has its own "personality".

Let's say it would have all the features I look for in a frame: frame type, suitable geometries, compatibility of electronic and mechanical groupsets, 32mm wheel clearance.

I took a look at their website and it seems strange to me not to find information on the resistance tests carried out and/or on the EPS technology used for molding the frame... I suspect that the frame is not produced by SpCycle. ...can you tell me something about it?

It also seems strange to me that they don't provide a rubber cover for the seat post block and the possibility of having the frame together with its own integrated handlebar....

Regarding the BSA 68mm bottom bracket, do you think I could be able to mount a Quarq DZero + crankset with 30mm axle that I currently mount on my Cervélo R3 which has a BBRight (79mm) bottom bracket?

Thanks for the information you want to give me!

Downhill it seems to pick up speed fast. Though my setup is a bit sketchy since I prefer 25c tires and 34cm bars. I might slam my stem later on for lower center of gravity + more stability, but I currently have a few spacers installed.

SPcycle seems to be the bare minimum type vendor. I've bought from them before, so I knew what to expect. I only went with the R088 because it matched my specs and price-wise during the 11.11/Black Friday sales it was cheaper than any of the SL8 clones with coupon codes combined.

I have no clue if SPcycle or anyone else is the OEM for the frame. So far though, I've done a few hard rides and it holds up fine. The assembly of this bike was a bit more finicky with all the slim internals. In comparison, my recent Ceccotti RF25 gravel build was a breeze to assemble.

I checked, buying an SL8 rubber cover doesn't seem that expensive, like $7 USD. There's nothing exotic about the R088 head tube design, you can probably use any off-the-shelf integrated bar. I'm guessing that might have been part of the decision to modify the head tube.

Aren't BBRight BBs all pressfit? Not sure I'd use a 30mm axle in a threaded BSA BB, but there's probably threaded 30mm BB options available.

As your current crank is most likely a BB30 you can't use that with BSA bottom bracket as the spindle is to short

It depends on the crankset - pretty sure all the SRAM 8-bolt cranks that are labelled as BB30 are actually BB386 (so will work with a BSA30 bottom bracket).

Re: Seraph Bikes Superlight 836g X68 - Alternative to SL8 Fakes?
I'll tell you that I think quite like you...even without logos or with the Seraph logo, not much would change, so I would probably opt for the Spcycle R088 frame which differs in terms of head tube and fork.

Yeah, the headtube is just so distinct... It's so obvious...

I have nothing against this frame, and if I would live alone on an island and never do events or group rides, I would have no problem riding it...

Re: Seraph Bikes Superlight 836g X68 - Alternative to SL8 Fakes?
I also like the frame and, from what I understand, Seraph is reliable as a manufacturer/seller....but from my point of view, even without the Specialized logo, the frame is still an obvious copy of something else (even applying the Seraph logo).

I think it just comes down to buying from a reliable vendor. If Tan Tan offers customer service support, then I wouldn't have an issue. It looks like even the fakes are probably EPS molded and there are lots of accessories on AliEx for the SL8. Plus not all of us ride with the bourgeoisie cycling crowd. I don't think anyone would bat an eye towards an unlabeled SL8 copy in my area.

Can you explain?

There are so many Aethos clones floating around from Bigrock, ICAN, Onirii and reliability on those frames seem to be solid. They're not as light as a genuine S-Works Aethos (maybe the Bigrock), but most these Aethos copies seem to ride just fine.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand...I seem to understand that in several cases the weights are even lower, or am I wrong?

An S-Works SL8 in size 56 is like 680g. The regular SL8 is 780g. These SL8 clones are like 800g plus at similar sizes. My R088 is 790g with RD/FD and cage bolts, but that frame doesn't have the speed sniffer head tube.

Re: Seraph Bikes Superlight 836g X68 - Alternative to SL8 Fakes? Here you have photos of the assembly of the Tantan SL8. I will send more photos soon.

Re: Seraph Bikes Superlight 836g X68 - Alternative to SL8 Fakes? I finished building the TT-X68 already two weeks ago, but it was very busy, so here is my update.

Carbon quality seems really good. I had zero issues with sharp edges or anything similar. The areas for the break mounts were all sanded down really well and also with the BB and the headset I had zero play/issues. The paint quality is so far superb and I'm more than happy TanTan changed there mind on the color customization of this frame.

I use a full Ultegra DI2 Groupset incl. 160mm discs front/rear, except for the crankset. As most of you can tell, I'm using a Magene PES505 in 165mm. In combination with my Novatec R4, some RideNow TPU Tubes and the Pirelli Tires the whole bike is 7152 g. The bottle cages are still in transit, but they will add only about 25g. It's a Size 52.

For my first chinese frame experience, this was quite a good one  ;)

The only thing I do not recommend is the computer mount. I think the angle of this is too steep, but I already found an alternative.

Re: Seraph Bikes Superlight 836g X68 - Alternative to SL8 Fakes? The yellow is actually a "greenish" color as well. The main color is metallic, the logos are matte. Everything is clear coated. Yeah, they just liked my design that much, they just putted it on their website (without even asking). That was not cool and it seems they often do it.

I took their logo and modified it, the way I wanted it to be :D

Re: Seraph Bikes Superlight 836g X68 - Alternative to SL8 Fakes?
We await your first impressions on the road  ;)

So far so good. I did not die due to this chinese frame nor was there any kind of technical failure (yet) :D
To be honest, I can only compare it to my Votec VRC Pro and the TanTan is sooooo much more agile, direct and fast. In direct comparison with the Votec you don't need any effort to get it going. However, this was just the first impression and the weather in Germany is not yet ideal for longer rides. But I'll keep you posted :)
