Re: Chinese Santa Cruz/AM831 Believe me, i have iron out some issue for future buyers.

Early adopters have to iron out some issues.it aint a software patch ::). I guess theres a few here which dont have the patience thus calling out a schill.  ;D

It has come to a point these "open molds" aint open source anymore. There are supplier and there is the real manufacturer & behind that a designer/engineer which can make mistakes.

Everyone here ride a mtb.. Are you the type which helps on trail maintainance or the type which whines about the trail not manicured enough? Anyway..

Try reading my post again.. Take note of the points i've mention. Those points are my contribution.

Someone else will build this frame faster than i do..
No big deal to me but i do look forward to seeing it.

In no hurry to build this during the pendemic..alot of parts are sold out or in back order.

Ive got time 8)

Re: ICAN P9 29ER ENDURO BUILD Almost 2 years have passed since building this up and it's been bulletproof. Many a huge crash and it's only got a few small scars.
Finished 15th then 16th overall in elite class for our state enduro series the last 2 years.

And a pic incase anybody is wondering how strong it is.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked multiple times already.  Is there a nice full parts list that someone has done for their build for this AM831 bike?

I'm kinda new to this whole "build from scratch" thingy...TIA!

Probably won’t help you much but this is my spreadsheet. Price are CAD

Suspension are on waiting list if I see that a manitou mars pro fit I’ll biy it and keep my manitou mezzer pro up front ( I like matchy suspension)

Wheels, I’ve already had them , would have gone with the diycarbon wheels with fastace hubs

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
Why do you say only the dpx?

Similar to coils the width of the opening to the rear mount is not big enough for the other two to fit.

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread! Attaching a picture of my finished build. This frame size is "S".
Only the bottom cage is missing and I haven ridden it yet, apart up and down the street to tune suspension and saddle height.

Some interesting parts of my build:
  • assembling the lower pin of the rear shock was challenging, as I could not find any position of the rear triangle that gave me enough clearance to remove the bolt. I ended up unscrewing the top hinge form the frame (removing the 2 bolts just under the saddle). Not sure if that was the best choice because repositioning the hinge wasn't easy, but it worked
  • my mounting hardware for the shock was M8x30 and M8x22.199. The x30 (top) fit perfectly, the x22.199 was loose: i measured 22.86mm for the opening. Rather than ordering a new one, I 3d printed 2 spacers, which seem to work well
  • My shock is a Fox dpx2. It fits pretty well, but the access to the air valve is tight, I can barely connect my pump to the valve.
  • I used a Fox36 fork, that barely clears the frame, after using the 0.5 degree angle spacer from Reverse, which is about 10mm tall. BTW, jham asked about installing the angle spacer: it is an "interference fit", just like a standard crown race. I used a piece of PVC pipe with id of about 1.5" to push it down, with the help of a rubber mallet

As for my component list, most of them are reused form other builds or both 2nd hand:
  • fork: Fox36 w/ GRIP2 damper. The damper adjustments barely clear the frame even after adding the angle spacer
  • rear shock: Fox dpx2, see my comments above for the mounting hardware
  • drivetrain: SRAM Eagle GX, with SRAM DUB 89/92 pressfit bottom bracket
  • wheelset: Lightcarbon 350MB-AD938-Race, shared with my other frame
  • breakset: Shimano M8200, which I got new at a good price form a seller on Pinkbike. The rotors are generic from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082NVF3TD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
  • dropper post: and old Tranzx 31.6x140. I pushed it all the way down the downtube.. and it still might be too high, I need to double check it, but I have not measured the insertion depth
  • saddle: a SDG Radar.. I have no idea of how good or comfortable it is, I got it at a discount because my other SGB Bel Air failed, but I have to say that I like a lot my WTB Volt on the other bike
  • stem and Carbon Handlebar: inexpensive from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0916YJ81R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JPF4T71/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
  • headset and Sitclamp: I used the one that came with the frame. The frame also came with 4 cable hole plugs, for the larger holes by the bottom of the downtube. They are rubber, not easy to install. Not sure if they will hold
  • missing: chainstay (and maybe downtube) protection. I have something that might work, but I haven't tried to install it yet.

I hope this is helpful to others..

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
I pulled the trigger on a fork because it was a good deal. Now I just realized it's 51mm offset. What are people's thoughts on this? Was this frame designed for a shorter offset fork? Should I send it back and find a 44mm offset? Or will there really be no difference?

I kind of like it over the feel of a 44 or 42 after swapping forks between bikes.  I don't like the front of the bike to be twitchy and that few mm lengthens the wheelbase and trail a little and makes it a little less responsive.  If you ride a lot of fast flow switchbacks maybe consider swapping for a 44mm.
*I'll be moving my 51mm Lyrik over so I hope it doesn't suck :)

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread! you guys are hilarious.  I have run a carbon bar for 4 years from ali and i weigh 255 lbs and havent had a single problem.  Their products are way better than the majority of you let on.. your brand name crap probably comes from the same factory.

Re: Stumpjumper clone Maybe I can help you I’ve ridden mine rough downhills and there is no flex but some of spacers and bearing have to be shimmed to end with no play and smooth moving

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread! Finished the build yesterday and finally got a ride on the new bike! It was awesome :) This is my first full suspension, and it is SOOOO plush, probably overkill for my Dallas area trails but appreciated nonetheless. I took it on my local trail (3 miles out, 5 mile trail, 3 miles back) and it performed flawlessly even after I stiffened up the rear suspension a bit given the moderate-easy terrain. I'll post a build list soon, but as you can see this bike can handle awesome components just fine  ;D. (And I do have blue stickers on order for the New-to-me Fox 36)

Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread!
Isn't the hole in the bushings supposed to be approx 12.7mm? And with the bushings removed and just the eyelet, it's a 15mm hole? To go from 12.5 to 12.7 with bushing removed, the bushing would only be 0.1mm thick...

DU bushings are thin.  Some photo for reference.
