I'm planning a similar 1x build. I assumed a wide crank would be necessary to fit a big chainring (<50)? Probably not. Typically the chainline on the direct mount single rings is wide enough to fit normal dimension chainstays. in my experience, buying 2 frames, they use only one box (bigger), but the shipping price is adjusted to the volume of the bigger box and the greater weight ... there is still a saving in costs I got an update from TanTan, they can ship 2 frames in one box. shipping costs change from 150$ to 200$.
