Re: dcrf26 frame - Scott Foil? Captains Log #8

This will be my final update for a while. Took the bike on a proper ride this morning and I really enjoy it. It certainly "feels" fast and doesn't struggle to maintain speed even with the 10-15mph block headwind on the return home. At 75 PSI out on proper roads the bike maintains its composure. No rattles no creaks and no teeth chattering moments. The stiffness is totally manageable even with my pad-less fully carbon saddle.

I am definitely going 1x drivetrain when the aero chainring arrive. Once I pair that to my set of TPU tubes this should drop the bike down to around 7.3kg. Pretty killer for an all-out aero frame, and even it's current form the bike feels like a go-cart. No flex out of the saddle.

It's still too early tell, but I get the impression this will be the best performing frame I've tested under $900. And this will mostly replace my Allez Sprint as long as no random quirks or catastrophic failures pop up over the summer.

Going back to @St0mpB0x point above about bottom brackets. So this frame has an asymmetrical bottom bracket design similar to the new Cervelo Soloist. The Soloist requires a T47 inboard cup on the non-drive side and an outboard cup on the drive side. The x38 is also asymmetrical but in the opposite inboard/outboard configuration of the Soloist. I was able to use an inboard DUB T47 on both sides, but it requires a specific configuration of crank/spindle spacers on both side. This isn't exactly ideal, as you may get very slight chain rub on the FD when in the two largest cassette cogs out back with out very carefully setting up the FD. Another reason 1x makes more sense for a bike like this anyway.

Re: dcrf26 frame - Scott Foil?
Kind of bummed that it doesn't come into its own until ~23-24 MPH though...

Generally speaking, most road bikes perform the same when you're puttering around slower than 23mph on flat roads.

It's why big brands go to unrealistic lengths to describe how their latest frames "are 45 seconds faster over a distance of 40 km compared to their predecessors" at a speed which recreational riders probably couldn't sustain solo

Re: VeloBuild VB-R-268 frame Wicked @rga19071976 !

Assuming your paint color is silver chameleon, my frameset was shipped out yesterday in the same color. Hoping it delivers by end of March. I'm gonna be blinding mofos when the sun hits  8)

Re: Lightcarbon: New LCR017-D (or Yishun R1058-D) Recieved my frame today. Initial inspection tells me all is well.
Frame wise all seems well.
Material tickness around headset area is spot on, bearing seats are, well... REALLY clean.
Derallieur hanger and wheel axel mounts are as expected, ie clean and no paint spill.
Overall paint job is immaculate, did mine in glossy pearl white with LC logos.
If there is interrest, I can post pics after build is finished.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: Spcycle R065 700C Full Carbon AERO Road Disc Brake Frameset Hello,
I received a medium frame with pearl white glossy paint.
Quality is very good, eps molding seems well handled.

About weight, i checked :
-seatpost 230g all included
-fork 422g uncut, 450 with axle
-frame 1177g with hangers, a bit heavy but i guess 1050 +/-30 claimed is totally naked
-frame + seat post clamp 1196
-rear axle 35g
-headset 101g

The axles are pretty light, i recommend to be careful with tightening torque and the quality of the tool you use.

Building the bike was easy, the right t47 is not as smooth as the left one but ok.

Some details :
If you remove the seat post the clamp easily falls inside the frame.
Due to the position of the seat tube, you have to consider that the seat post has almost 2cm setback.

About the saddle clamp itself, i had to sand a bit the top cradle because saddle was rotating, spcycle provide 2 cradle for different rails diameter.
There is no tightening instructions with the clamp, it be problematic with carbon rails as you need to tighten a lot to make the thing not to move.

The down tube is very thin, it's really easy to compress it with the hand but doesn't seem to affect ride and it's normal according to spcycle
Plenty of clearance with 30c, 32 as advertised will fit easily and probably 34-35 too.

About my first riding impressions :
Feeling is not harsh, vibration and small asperities are well filtered, surely helped by 30 tyres.
I'm pretty comfortable on the bike.
When it comes to big bumps, no surprise it's an aero bike.

The aeroad design is not fake, it likes speed, downhill freewheeling it gains speed fast.
In the wind, cross wind, it's pretty good too, i was expecting much more disturbance from an aero bike.
Probably helped by the fact I'm using only 40mm rims but the frame seems to let the air go around more than being pushed by.

Considering it's winter, i'm out of shape and i don't have enough comparison to give a good opinion on riding dynamics.

At the moment for me this bike is a very good surprise considering the low price.

Re: Spcycle New Mold SP-R088 Carbon Road Frame Photos of the build! As I mentioned previously, I can't ride the bike right now due to major fires in my area, so I can't comment on ride quality until things clear up. I've included close-ups of the UD glossy raw finish. In-person it looks like black marbling, similar to a bowling ball with similar finish! Also I pre-applied clear protection decals to certain areas of the frame. Some of the straight lines in the finish are from the protection decaling.

Re: Spcycle R065 700C Full Carbon AERO Road Disc Brake Frameset Looks really good especially with that paintjob. Glad to read some positive things about spcycle. Personally i would upgrade to some deeper wheels long term to match the aero look of the frame.

BXT SL-115 Got it from AliExpress, BXT Official Store. Chameleon paint so it's brown in direct sunlight, green when the sun hits it at an angle, and pretty much black in low light. I requested a smaller BXT logo on the top tube instead of the down tube, and no headset label and they complied. It took 18 days from order to delivery by FedEx, which they asked me to pay $40 extra for.

The 52 cm frame weighed 962 g with no bottom bracket, headset or axles, but with the front and rear derailleur hangers. The fork weighed 408 g after I cut it. Final build weight 8.8 kg/19.4 lb. It's really just a spare parts bin bike so I didn't put any effort into reducing weight.

The groupset is Tiagra 2x10 speed with hydraulic disc brakes, but with a 105 FD-R7100 front derailleur because the frame only has a large hole for a front derailleur cable with outer housing. Oh and you only get a grommet for the rear brake hose. No grommets for the rear or front derailleurs or front brake. The integrated handlebars were a real pain to do with 4 hoses, but I think it was worth it for the clean look. The gloss black handlebars show scratches easily, but I was able to polish them out by hand.

The top headset bearing didn't quite sit flat. It rocks a bit forwards and backwards. But I got it to stop rocking by tightening it while pulling the frame back against the front brakes. Also the included T47 68 mm bottom bracket was very tight for my Tiagra crankset. I actually knocked the non-drive side bearing out while attempting to tap the crankset in with a mallet. I got the bearing back in but I'll probably just order a new bottom bracket.

Overall I'm very happy with this bike.
