Re: Any experience with Ornan bike wheelsets?
Negative, but that's probably another n6 wheels made by far sports story, or a unaas made by winspace. Namely, some "brand" that largely exists because they buy a bunch of wheels from an OEM and pretends they reinvented the wheel. Far sports and Xiamen carbon speed, and yuanan, are three oems (just to name 3) that make wide rims with carbon spokes. For n6 and unaas you can read the very recent threads on this forum for details and background. September 21, 2024, 02:38:10 AM |

Negative, but that's probably another n6 wheels made by far sports story, or a unaas made by winspace. Ornan appears to be an OEM. Can't say for sure, but I've bought gravel frames from them. I've tried to buy road frames (from their e-mail catalogue) in the past only to be told something along the lines of "no longer available, it's now exclusive to a brand in your region'. I can recommend their framesets but have no experience with their wheels. October 14, 2024, 02:09:28 AM |

Re: Carbon spoke Q on new wheelset
The 5.5 mm spokes don't fit the 20 spoke hubs, only the 21-24 spoke hub set. These are heavier, the spoke insertion and retention method is less reliable and potentially dangerous and the spoke count is just unnecessarily high. The 3.2 mm spokes that do fit the 20 spoke hubs are much worse aerodynamically. Shallower, thicker and a completely unoptimised cross section. The 5.5mm spoke also has fairly long cylindrical sections on the ends, worse than some alternatives. This is another aerodynamic penalty. Ornan could very easily get their hands on spokes that could remedy those critiques a little bit. They don't seem to be too keen on updating their site, maybe they do offer more on request. I've run some cfd sims on these profiles, not enough to be conclusive, but I haven't been too impressed so far. February 12, 2025, 08:46:33 PM |
