That's indeed very strange  :o

Cutting a fork should be a daily routine for a bike shop. Any serious shop provides some basic fitting service, the first one being to cut the fork the appropriate length, once spacers have been defined.

Well, this tells everything: some of the segments around here are own by Pro riders. No less then Romain Bardet, probably the best road French cyclist of the moment. I'm now a follower, very interesting to see his Stava log!

I would say that it's best to choose the free option until you get your final position: just remove a 10 mm of spacer.
If you like it that way then you can improve the esthetic (which is a personal thing) by tweaking it with a new stem and the appropriate spacers.

No, I don't think coupon can be send out. There is no invite that grants a discount. But sometimes there are special offers. I get my Premium account at MapMyRide till the end of the year. I'll watch offers till then.

I don't want to use multiple apps, I really want to keep it simple, within one app. So I'll probably need the premium account.

And lucky you to be able to be KOM :), the place I live and ride is so full of strong riders that I'll probably never get one! And I'm 40, with a family, which doesn't help either to spend my life on a bike :)

I've switched to Strava now, completely. There are many things I prefer over MapMyRide:
- screen saver. Screen gets dark but not locked! With MMR, it was either full ON or full OFF but no screen saver.
- Community. I knew no-one on MMR.
- Comparison. This is the only way to track progress, and Strava makes it convenient to compare your performance/regularity to yourself/others.

What I prefer on MMR:
- creating a new route on my laptop is easier with MMR.
- The free app/account offers flexibility in the app display (can show instant speed). Strava app only shows average speed if you get a free account.
- Premium account was 30USD on MMR, almost twice as much for Strava... but I'll probably pick it to enable Hear Rate monitoring and instant speed.

Anyone gets a Strava coupon?

No, it's part of Alltricks' Premium account

As I get a week before I can complete my bike, I thought I should post a picture. Here is a family picture  ;)

You can (almost) see the Shelter tape. It's very conformal, so it is difficult to see.
I just wanted to add that I really like the angle in the seat tube. It enables to significantly move the saddle to the front when pushing on the dropper post. This should enable a better handling in technical sections. I'll confirm as soon as I can ride the bike!

me too  ;D

Everything's done now (brake bleed, dropper post hose stuck to the frame, cockpit all setup)! Just waiting on my 10% anniversary discount, next week, to order my Eagle cranks.

Also, I was about to built a DIY pressfit tool when I found one for 25€. For this price, I see no reason to built it myself.

It's a very nice upgrade compared to your previous bike!

I would still question the choice of frame. Why pick such an aero/race type frame when what you want is obviously a comfortable ride? This forces you to max everything: spacers, up-right stem, very high position of the brake levers. You could have picked a frame with a higher stack and set the cockpit in a more natural fashion.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: BB68 Compatible Cranksets?
« on: September 24, 2016, 03:07:14 PM »
68 mm is the most typical road bike BB. Any road crankset will work (Shimano 105, Ultegra..., SRAM Rival, Apex...).

I have discovered recently that MTB have longer axle (even if they use a 68 mm BB). They use spacers. Just stick to road type crank set

Getting close!!

I've received my delivery from Poland (26Bikes.com). So I have taped my rear wheel and mounted the tire, Nobby Nic 2.8. I've adjusted the RD too.
Also, I've processed with some measurements. Here is a summary:
- Head Angle is 68.5° with my "old" 110 mm fork. Now I plan on 130-140 mm (Pike).
- BB height: about 30.6mm. There is indeed room to increase the fork travel a bit!
- Disc side chainstay clearance: 11 mm. That's plenty with a real 2.8 tire.
- Drive side chainstay clearance: 15 mm. That's because of the high position of the drive side chainstay.
- Seat tube clearance: an amazing 3 cm. They could have shortened the chainstay even more (and I use the short setting at 425 mm).

Pictures now!

What is missing:
- rear brake bleed
- apply protection tape (received)
- buy BB/crankset. I'm decided with Eagle, GXP, Boost. Yes, it's very expensive but I really can't see a GX here. I get 10% in one of my usual shop, on my anniversary, early October.
- Fix the dropper post hose with stick-on jagwire. I've opted for the cheapest option for now.
- Waiting for feedback from Peter on the rear axle (I've added 5 mm of washers for now, but can't be a permanent solution!).

29+ & 27+ / Re: 29er/27,5+ boost frame
« on: September 23, 2016, 03:10:25 AM »
I don't know for sure but I'd think that any 29er Boost rear hub frame can accommodate 27.5x3.0" tires.

As 27.5+ is a little smaller diameter then 29" you can increase the fork travel. This reduces HA and gets the BB height back to normal. I'd say that 20 mm increase in Fork travel is OK!

The difference you see is most likely the VAT. About 20%.

I've experienced that in the past. I would check a French website I regularly use while traveling out of France and see crazy prices. Then, as I log in and prices get back to normal. Then I checked and the difference was just the VAT.

Most Chiner frames from 2015 and before were pure XC: large HA.
Also the larger rear tire you could fit is a WTB Trailblazer.

I used to get that setup, with a longer fork to reduce the HA. But that's not what you want.

2016 started to provide some frames moving to slacker HA (but not 66°) and real plus size tire fit but travel remains limited to 100 mm.

Let's cross fingers that 2017 will provide longer travel frames...

If that frame existed I would have bought it. As far as I know there is no such frame from a (reliable) Chinese vendor.

Peter just sent me a picture of his booth at Interbike, Las Vegas. I thought you would like to see it as well! Wish I was in Vegas!
