Just ordered a six pack of KMC missing links off Amazon.  I'll be thanking you guys when I'm not walking out of the woods :)

I guess I can predict the future?  :)

On my last ride (easy paved trail) the chain kept jumping around in the rear- ghost shifting, popping on and off the cogs.  I adjusted the derailer but it turns out it was the chain- the Shimano connector pin had worked its way out, and going up a climb today the chain fell right off.  I wasn't pedaling very hard when it happened, so nothing else was damaged and I didn't fall over.   Gettting the other pin out was no trouble with the Crank Bros multi tool, and the KMC link was simple to put on.  It takes a fair amount of force to pull it into place, but that is easy to generate by standing on the cranks to pull it tight.

I did a Google image search for Hollywood rack, and was quite disappointed by the results :)

Which one did you get?  Their 4 bike rack looks good- I really like that you can take off half of it when you only need to carry one or two bikes.

Bdub, sorry I missed your post!  Yes, still very happy with the Swagman rack.  It's easy for my wife to use it as well, since you only have to lift the bikes about 2 feet off the ground- she's got a big, stretched out cruiser bike that is large and awkward to lift.

I don't think I'd be brave enough to go without a spare tube- I'm not convinced that the Conti tires are idiot proof :).  I got the RoRos for $48 from Art's Cyclery- $80 may be a bit too much.  I guess I should say I'll get more if I find them on sale again.

Update on the wheels- they are still doing great, have not even had them back on the truing stand.  Unfortunately I can't say the same for the Rocket Rons.  They have been great up until now, but yesterday I sliced the sidewall on the front tire.  Stan's wouldn't seal it, but I had a tube in the camelback so I didn't have to walk out. By this morning the tube was flat- back to tubeless!

The gorilla tape has little indentations at each spoke hole, but it is holding up fine.  The Stan's definitely got under the tape at the edges and on the end, but not enough to cause a problem. Biggest problem is getting all of the dried latex off the rim and tire.

It looks like I should be able to patch the tire, but for now the Conti X-King is back on.  It went on the rim very easily, with no levers.  Planning to try it this afternoon, to see if I notice any difference with the extra 200 g on the front.  I guess I should be happy with getting 6 months from the Schwalbe tire- others seem to shred them much faster.  I can't think of a cheaper way to save that weight, so I'll probably put this one back on eventually, and get more RoRos in the future.

I have a superficial scratch on the rear rim- looks like it scraped a rock pretty good when I crashed.  It doesn't look like it will cause any problems, but obviously I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Don't be too jealous.  it's in the 30's here now, with freezing rain last night and more to come tomorrow.  I was out of town a lot for work, but I haven't ridden all month. :(

Would there be any benefit for a DH carbon frame?  Trying to make it weigh 50 pounds instead of 55?  :)

Never ridden DH, I was just thinking that with heavy duty components and super long travel a carbon frame would only give a marginal benefit.

Thanks for posting all the pics- bike looks great, and the high-res shots are really helpful to show how it goes together.

You mean the headset cups, which are part of the frame?  Not sure if those are plastic, or aluminum with an oxide or some other coating.  If they are plastic, I wouldn't have a problem as long as everything is aligned correctly and the actual bearings fit correctly (and they use an appropriate material, of course).

Can someone from iPlay comment on what material their headset cups are made of, and how they are installed- molded in, or glued in afterward?

Can you post a picture of the headset bearing? Not sure which parts of it might be plastic.

You really can't go wrong either way.  You can justify it by saying you won't be as tempted to upgrad in the future, so in the long run it will save you money.

Disclaimer- don't try to use that justification outside of a bike forum.

Isn't Ireland part of England?

[flame suit]   :)

I ordered from Merlin and got the 'normal' front brake on the left.  The hose is long, but not so long that it has overcome my laziness to make me trim it (it just makes a slightly larger loop).

I wish I had known about the i spec mounts before I ordered-  I didn't realize I had to specify the mounts.  Some people prefer separate mounts to have them at different angles, but I think I'd prefer to have the shifters further inboard, more tucked under the levers.  Replacement mounts are pretty pricey for what they are, so I'm sticking with the two clamps.

Yes, I'd love to go. Biggest worry is that I'll want to build a full sus or a fat bike afterward :)

The trails at Allatoona are great. Unless the remains of a hurricane comes through, conditions should be excellent then.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get up to Chicopee.  Let me know when you are ready to roll!  :)
