Component Deals & Selection / Re: DT 240EXP hub clones Goldix, Venfort
« on: September 17, 2023, 01:09:46 PM »
Is this a case of an expired patent? It seems that throughout the past year every single Chinese wheelseller started to offer a set with copies of various models of DT Swiss hubs. All of them ratchet.

Yes. Old model 240 was an incredible hub, and when the patent expired, everyone copied it, DTSwiss made a new one that is objectively inferior and ramped up the marketing to hide the fact old 240 was peak design

While I enjoy Luke's channel, a lot of his bike issues are from user error. He's pretty much the average Joe with a YT channel when it comes to bike assembly.

He did fray his own battery connector!

He has in the past, at least twice reported about issues that were his fault before reaching out to the brand and figuring it out... Quite sad but it reflects the average user experience.
I'm still leaning more and more towards ER9 instead of 105 for my next build, even at equal pricepoint

Do you  work for LTwoo Fabio?

Looks good, can you share the price? And how deep is the downtube storage?

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Re: Hydraulic shifter "blocks"
« on: September 05, 2023, 12:32:41 PM »
But would they serve the same purpose?
I believe the bleed blocks keep pistons distanced as much as possible while bleeding so the oil is spread and pressurized all across - without the blocks being there the pistons will pop inwards regardless you press the lever or not. In fact that's one "trick" to overbleed your brakes in case you aren't getting enough pressure even after multiple bleeds (has happened with me). I have done that and would suggest doing it only as last resort, pushing the pistons back into recess can be a mess.

I'm not talking about bleed blocks. I'm talking about thin plastic fins that you fit inside calipers, with the pads still in them when you have the wheel off

Maintenance, Mechanics, & Tools / Hydraulic shifter "blocks"
« on: September 05, 2023, 04:48:10 AM »
We're all familiar with the little clips you shove between the brake pads to not retract them, but I find them pretty annoying. I've heard of an equivalent that lodges itself under the shifter to prevent braking but I've never seen them in person and can't find them for sale online
I'm talking about these yellow clips, sometimes visible in pictures of groupsets

Does anyone know where to get them? Is this something included when you buy the boxed versions of new groupsets, that bike stores presumably throw away? Thanks

Coincidentally, I also received my upsized darevie bibs yesterday. My first pair was L because people with my measurements reported good results, but this XL fits me a lot better (L is still okay, just a little tight to put on) for 1m83/75kg
I don't know why all reviews say they match EU sizes, I don't think they do.
Doubt I'll order another darevie jersey though, the arms are amazing but the pockets are pretty bad imo

Component Deals & Selection / Re: DT Swiss like aero hubs
« on: August 29, 2023, 10:10:26 AM »
What do you mean by "aero"? Like the 180s? I don't think you are going to halve your cda with those hubs, they are marginally thinner than the 240s and much less stiff (all the DTSwiss pros are running 240s and not 180s afaik)
I'm not aware of 180 inspired chinese hubs, but if you like "thin" hubs novatec makes thinner hubs. If you like the design of DTS hubs, one of the hotter threads on here is exactly about that: https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3428.0.html

Curious...why not AliExpress?
Nothing against aliexpress. Just saying it doesn't have a huge wheel selection. If you look at chinese websites that sell direct to consumer there are plenty of competitive offers and I get overwhelmed trying to compare them

175
Can't you get some decent wheelsets from china but not aliexpress at that price? I think it was lightcarbon who quoted me 450€ shipped for a 47mm rim with their inhouse hubs

I received this new Rion shirt yesterday: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005861997589.html
I ordered a XS (172cm and 63kg) in champagne colour, but the fit is OK, but is is way to short and the pockets are way too high. The colour is also more pink than champagne.

It has free return, so I am going to try how that works out for the first time...

Edit: They already provided me with the return label, so that's good :)

They look a lot like the darevie jerseys to me, with the high pockets, mesh arms, SBS zipper and even the cheesy line. Only real difference I see are the reflector positions on the back

I gave these a try and I have to say I’m seriously impressed. These are easily comparable with my Castelli bibs which are about five times as expensive. The chamois is an actual chamois with profiling and different thickness areas. A whole different story to my Spexcel bib which is the same price. Sizing is also spot on so the measurements they give for their Asian sizes seem to be accurate. I will buy these again and I’m very tempted now to try their jerseys.
Lol! I thought I was reading my own message. Also have castelli bibs, also tried spexcel  and hated it, then bought darevie and found them amazing value. Just ordered a second pair yesterday.
I don't think I'll buy their jersey again though, a zipped pocket is kind of a big deal to me and the pockets are much smaller in general. Fits amazing overall, it's just the pockets for me

178
That's damn expensive. I would encourage you to search the second hand market, you can find great deals.
I bought 2 pairs of brand new shimano SMRT64 with 2 pairs of pads for 20€
Also, these centerlock lock rings that require a 44mm wrench can go straight to hell.

These are a very cheap upgrade that saves quite a lot of weight and is ten times more convenient

I'll bite again... Is anyone using an electric pump like the xiaomi one? (I'm not talking about the pocket sized cycplus pump)
Is it truly only to top up tires to the right psi or can you inflate from 0?

Is the rear mech cage removable on the Er9? Can it be swapped out?

Yes
