No, it's more like a fire engine red.  It does look a bit orange in the pictures next to the light hardwood or cardboard, but in person I don't really see any orange.  The RGB number is 239, 62, 66 so it's not a pure red.  I have a few more pics, but they don't really have anything to do with XMI Play so I'll start a build thread.

It's Pantone 185 C, with a clear gloss finish.  Once I get a little further along (or run into some problems) I'll start my own build thread in the 29er section. I wanted the IP-256, but didn't think I could wait.

Yippee! Frame came today.  The box was in good shape, and when I picked it up, it felt like an empty box. :)

Packaged pretty much like SN's frame- bubble wrap cocoon, dropout protectors, and seat post plug.  The wrapped up frame was inside a large plastic bag, along with the headset taped down in a bubble wrap pouch.

The paint is not perfect, but it is really good.  They did have a poor masking job on one side of the BB and on the headset area, so there was a bit of overspray.  The BB threaded in fine- I did not need to chase the threads or clean it up at all.  The headset cups had a little more, and the bearings had a lot of resistance.  I used a felt polisher to clean them out.  Afterward, the headset bearings slipped in easily.

Here it is with the fork, a RockShox SID RLT.  Pretty anxious to ride it, so once I get the fork in I'll have to put the wheels on and take it for a spin as a push bike.

Overall I'm very satisfied- Thanks Peter!  Communication was good, and I got it 16 days after ordering.

It's been two weeks since I ordered mine, but it seems like forever...  Mine had extra lead time due to painting, but at one point Peter said there was a 20 day lead time for production.  Not sure if he mixed up the models (I had previously asked about an IP-256), if they have low inventory, or some production delays since this is an IP-057 which he previously said was in stock.

Either way, EMS tracking shows it got to New York yesterday so hopefully I'll be wrenching on it by the end of the week.

So far so good, but they are a little harder to deal with just due to the 12 hour time difference.  I never tried to connect on Skype or other real time means, so not sure how easy it is to get Peter or one of the others that way.

$4000 to $5000 makes it pretty easy, even for a full suspension.  XTR or XX1, a top of the line fork, and carbon wheels (though maybe not the most expensive ones) should get you in under $5000, even with a few replacement parts.

Please do post your components list along with where you got them and price if you're comfortable sharing, but if you really want to challenge the group ask for help keeping it under $2000:)

Yes, but I don't know what yet.  I'd like to get a Chinertown logo, and maybe something in Chinese characters.  I work with several folks in Shanghai, so I'd ask them to translate something for me to be sure I get the right characters.

The page Peter sent didn't work on my iPad, but on a regular PC browser it shows up fine-

I ordered an IP-057 painted in Pantone Red 185C.  It shipped yesterday, about 1.5 weeks from ordering.  Peter sent pics-

Which style front derailleur fits best on these frames?  I'm planning to run a 2x10, and not sure which style I need.  I know you guys prefer 1x, but hoping you can point me in the right direction. :)

Any tips on preventing a big gouge in the bottom bracket area and scratches along the chainstays?  I'm planning to use a 2x10 setup, and I'm sure I can find a way to get the chain in contact with the frame at some point.

I was planning to use the 3M mastic tape on the chainstay.  Should I also put some around the BB, or is there a better solution to protect from a dropped chain or chain suck, short of never getting the bike dirty?

After going back and forth for a couple of days I ordered the -057.  The biggest reason is that I didn't want to wait 45 days (or more), but it also seems that the weight difference is not as much as advertised.  Some posters in the mtbr thread are reporting total weights around 1060 g; per Peter the 890 g weight does not include any of the alloy parts.  It's still around 200 g lighter, but I decided that wasn't worth the extra $160 or the extra 45 days.  So now I need to find some lighter tires with that money.  :)

Thanks- I'm asking for a solid color, so it's pretty simple if I can find the right one.

Has anyone seen a ride report on the -256?  I've seen plenty of remarks about it and a few pictures of builds on the Weight Weenies forum, but no one saying how it rides.

One more question- for those of you that got painted frames (is Carbon Dude the only one?), how did you choose the color?  Peter sent me a link that supposedly has the colors ( blog.sina.com.cn ) , but no images show up and all the text is Chinese.

Thanks to those that have shared their build pics and parts lists- especially carbon Dude and Sitar Ned.  They have been a big help in figuring out just what I'm getting into.

I'm planning to get an XT M785 crankset, and wanted to be sure I specify the correct BB shell.  Is the BSA the correct one to specify?

For the wheels, I'm planning to go with regular QR skewers, so I assume I need to ask for the 135 mm rear.

I'm leaning toward the IP-057- am I correct that it can be setup for the regular 135 wide QR wheels?
