Hi Chinerstown !

I am still on my components buy phase.   and now
I am looking for disc brake rotor for my build.
I have a Ultegra group but without  the rotor, obviously.

I like to have center lock toror , 10mm front and 140mm on the back   .

So my questions are :
1 -  is this  configuration good,  140 back and 160mm front .
2 -  Do you have a seller or brand you recommend on Aliexpress ?

Thanks !!

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame

Hi all!  I have been lurking this thread for the past few months while deciding if I should go ahead with building my own bike, and whether to get it from Velobuild. Really helpful tips so far and definitely helped with my decision to make the purchase! I finally decided order a VB-R-168 from Chris, in Matte Chameleon Green colour. I thought it would be useful to share my experience and two-cents on the bike building process. It was one rewarding experience to finally be out riding on your self-build bike!

Size: 52
Groupset: Ultegra R8000 Hydraulic
Disc: RT800 140mm Front and Rear
Handlebar: 400mm/90mm
Wheelset: From Taobao 60mm Depth with Hubsmith hubs
Tires: GP5000 TL
Saddle: AliExpress power saddle lookalike
Pedals: AliExpress Lollipop pedals

Weight: 8.2+Kg there about

The building of the bike was not too difficult, just gotta do research and watch youtube for bike building process, tips and tricks, note the torque settings of the various components. The most tedious of all would be the internal routing. I routed the cables through the handlebars first, followed by the rest of the routing through the frame. Used an old brake wire to help with the guiding of cables through the respective cable holes.
The FD cable stop was some what tricky, I had to file off the edges to get the cable to fit in to the hole. There is a small bracket to secure the FD cable stop into, it is rather flimsy and mine broke off. I had to fit it back into the frame from the bottom bracket hole, and screw the cable stop into the bracket. (sorry i didnt have pictures to explain it better).

Another problem I had was that the headset compression ring not being able to sit squarely into the bearing, I had to squeeze the compression ring inwards a little (with a lil force) for it to sit properly into the bearing. Otherwise there would be large gap between the headset spacer and frame.

Otherwise, rest of the installation was rather smooth!

This is my first full carbon bike with deep wheels, so I cant exactly do any comparison. In general the bike rides really well, with much better handling, and maintains speed better.  Overall very happy with the whole build!
Really nice build !
What are the wheels ?

Hi,

I notice the thru axle  of this frame  need an allen key to remove the axle.

Did anyone change the stock thru axle and replace it with  one that had a lever integrated to the axle  ?
Which one do yourecommend ?

like this one

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Gorilla Brakes pads
« on: October 13, 2021, 08:20:33 PM »
All pads I have tried, branded and unbranded make noise when wet until they get hot.
And some make noise permanently, probably when polluted.
Do you know some brands that never make noise ?

I really dont known since I am on rims.  But i was wondering.

And with the bike i want to build with disc brake,  i was wondering if there is a brand that is the best

Not sure about Gorilla's price, but I use these ones: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000086316140.html

How is the durability and reliability of those ?
Do they make noise ?
How do they perform in wet condition and also do they make noise ?

I believe it will come in just under $4k. When it's done I'll post all the details, including weights.

Yes please post cosr , weight and if possible website link where you bought the part

There is a relationship between inside rim width and maximum tire size. Schwalbe has a chart which has the ERTRO official recommendations plus Schwalbe's own suggestions: https://www.schwalbe.com/en/reifenmasse

But according to the chart, you can use up to a 34mm wide tire on a rim as narrow as 15mm internal width.

The Elite Wheels recommendation for 28mm max may be more for aerodynamic reasons, since the widest rim on that page is 29mm external. Wider tires would definitely work, but wouldn't be as streamlined.
great !

Thanks for the link !

Hi,

I  want to buy the Elite wheels  ENT to put a 30 or 32    tire .
Bbut I found confusing information  from the alibaba vendor and information from Elite webite.

From Alibaba vendor website, it says up to 28c  tire
https://xmcarbon.en.alibaba.com/product/60754537826-901334821/ELITEWHEELS_ENT_Road_Disc_Carbon_Wheelset_700c_Disc_Brake_50mm_Tubeless_UD_Matte_Road_Disc_Wheels.html?spm=a2700.shop_plgr.41413.31.7bb34d4838S4s5

But from Elite wheels website , it says up o 36c tire

https://www.elite-wheel.com/elitewheels-ent-road-bike-disc-brake-wheelset-p2707979.html

I am confused. !?!

Does the inner width of the wheels dictate the tire size ???

thanks

If I had a frame to put them on, I’d tell you.  Lol

I can tell you the RD13 model  is a 36T ratchet design, lighter than the DT Swiss 350, slightly heavier than the 240.

Since it is ratchet, they do not hide the fact that they are noisy.
They also have hubs 6 pawls and ceramic bearings.

The ENT uses their default RD07 hub which is also 6 pawls. This is the one on Trace’s bike before he was gifted the newer farspeed wheels

Hoi Digma,

Does your Elite wheel come with the thru axle ot you have to buy ithem ?

Hi,
Does this frame had a drain hole at the bottom of the bottom bracket to let water drain ?
On the pictures of velobuild website, I dont see any hole in the close up picture of the BB hole .

If you got the ENT I am afraid your hubs will be silent.

Hubs =RD07

Hi ,

Wheredid you see the noise level of the R07 ?
I cannot seethe dbsound level in the spec.

In fact I am looing for a quiet wheel from the vendor but they not not provide the DB noise level of the hub

Here is the link for the wheel, although they have some other nice sets, like a natural carbon lightweight set

https://xmcarbon.en.alibaba.com/product/1600247326063-815335396/New_arrivals_BWT_road_disc_wheelset_45mm_rim_depth_29mm_width_tubeless_700c_carbon_wheelset.html?spm=a2700.shop_plgr.41413.37.64296d3emYFFnw

Available with DT Swiss hubs, for a price of course.

OMG the price is now 710$US ,  then add shipping, then tax probably ...
Inflation is steep in couple months
