After The Ride / Re: XS 26er frames?
« on: December 01, 2014, 01:36:04 PM »
My daughter is also 10yr, 5'3" and is riding a 15,5" specialized stumpjumper.
I know Cube have 14" frames. You can find them also on eBay and AliExpress.

Maybe that's something nice to start with.
Nice to build together? Nice dad-son project :)

Rotor wear question:

Does this look right?

Wear on front pads looks even.
I've got exactly the same on my rear pads.
Could it be a small issue with the tolerances on the caliper post-mount on the IP-256SL frames ?
Maybe we have to make a new topic about this ?

Yes, the cable stop at the top is really easy. But the one at the rear is something different.

Sjon, please try first 2.5mm as Carbonazza said. Then one step bigger. As said before, I did is manually with turning the drill with a pliers. It's not easy.
But, you said the complete drill is already into you frame. Maybe you're using a short drill.

You think a dremel could do the job? If it does, i'll get a dremel to tomorrow, but i'm not sure i can avoid the seatstay with it. You mean a standard dremel or something with a flexibel hose?
I think something with a flexible hose. I'm not sure, but I think that's the easiest way. But, you're almost there, Don't you have larger drill ? How long is your drill ? And what about your 3.5 drill ? Or did you directly started with the 4mm ?

Ehhh, there wasn't much left of the drill. Just enough to hold the drill with the pliers (Dutch: tang).
It really took al lot of time to drill this way. The next time I'll get a dremel.

I used foam pipe and attached some cord to the foam pipe.

By hand (drill and pliers). The next time I'll use a dremel.

With a dremel? Or with a little drill by hand and a lot of patience? I did the last one. It took me 3 hours :(

Component Deals & Selection / Re: 256 Direct mount compatibility

The holes of the Shimano E2 (S2) fits on these screw holes.
Erik, thank you for your clear explanation.
I made another mistake by thinking the Shimano E-Type2 was a S2 model, but it is a S3 model (and that's why I needed to use a 5mm spacer).

So, the difference between a S2 and a S3 model is the 5mm offset in the mounting plate:

Some information about the difference:
 http://www.cannondaleexperts.com/Cannondale-Flash-Carbon-Direct-Mount-Front-Derailleur-Spacer--KP123_p_803.html

Now I'm going to buy a SRAM X0 FD (S3, 39T, down pull) with 5 mm spacer or a SRAM XX FD (S2, 39T, down pull, EAN/SKU: 00.7615.065.100 ), which is twice the price of a X0.
I'm happy that there is a FD that fits this frame :)

I have to find a rubber protection hose to prevent dirt from entering the hole.
Shrink tubing ? Maybe that works ?

ehhh, you're totally right.  :-[
How on earth could I think that they were positioned horizontally. Even on my own pictures I can see they aren't.  :o

Changing my mind ...  8)

So, the SRAM FD's will fit. Only (?) the XX model is down pull at the left, not at the right as the XT FD.

Do you know if there are more XX FD S2 direct mount models around (left pull or right pull) ?
Does your SRAM XX FD has a (extra) model number, like 'FD-M785-E2' for the Shimano XT ?

Erik, are you sure this SRAM FD will work ? Do you have already some experience ?

The holes for the FD in the frame are positioned horizontally. The SRAM FD required the holes NOT horizontally, but with a little offset, as you can see on the image below.

On my 256 both dropped in without any pressure. Put (a lot) grease around it, to 'seal' it for water.

Nice build !
How does the Fun Works N-Light Evo Atmosphere XL Comp Race wheelset holding ? Would you buy them again if you could ?

And why do you have two small white pipes at both sides of the valve ?
