My preferred action is going to be to build up a new disc brake bike for the reasons stated above

I read "Rim brake, obviously" in your previous post and thought you wanted rim brakes on your next bike :)

Between the Dengfu and 177, i'd go with the 177.

Thanks. Yes, admittedly, I'm not at all well versed on geometry and I did notice that the tubes seemed more geared towards weight savings in some and aero in others.

I currently ride a 2011 S-works SL3 with R7000 105 components. Rim brake, obviously. It's on its way out and I'm not that happy about what you get for your money from the LBS these days, so want to build up my own bike. Not just for the cost savings, but also for the learning experience.  I thought I'd go with some frames that were similar to the SL7 but obviously I've missed the mark. I'm obviously many years older now, and I'm wondering if my reach has shortened a bit.  I'm also heavy enough that the weight savings from a very lightweight frame will be wasted on me. I'd rather go with a frame that is a bit heavier but well made and remains stiffer for longer.  I don't race apart from a couple of 160km sportive's per year, so happy to go with a more endurance type bike.

I know this is a very open-ended and question, but if you do have any suggestions about a frame that might be a good match, let me know. Thanks.

Will depend on where you live, but if you're happy with rim brakes, look at branded second hand bikes, you will get the most value out of those. If it comes with shitty wheels, get 60mm carbon ones, you can get a set shipped to you for c.600 usd, or also buy that second hand. Pay attention to the brake track though. Giant TCR, cannondale supersix, there are so many of those for sale and they're so good, you can't go wrong.

Maybe I’m blind, but I couldn’t find anything on the Ingrid website or socials that indicate where they are made.

I did find this one 30mm spindle version, but only one chainring size.  :-\

Looks super nice. Cycling has become a dentist sport, the margins on many of the components are insane. The pictures on your link look like very well machined aluminium. Most likely, the real ones are made in china. You take a block of metal, launch a well calibrated CNC machine with the right drill bit and voila. It's not rocket science. The question is more whether what you receive looks like the pictures, i'd say. If i were in the market for such a crank, i'd get it, looks awesome.

Good to know. I recently ordered ONIRII BR-05 calipers and from all appearances look like rebranded ZRace BR-005 calipers.

On Alibaba those are labelled IIIPro. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/LS-IIIPRO-Road-Bike-Brake-Calipers_1600550173826.html
I wonder who actually makes that stuff.

I just ordered 2 of these rims: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001357708166.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.690b1802etqdQB

It's quite courageous to order rims from a random seller on aliexpress, I'd be a bit scared myself!

Peter is offering good deals on both road and gravel wheels, it's the post talking about OEM wheels on the forum from 2-3 weeks ago. I'll probably order from him myself. In the past i've bought from Farsports, but they're more expensive. He and his company have been posting on and off on this forum for many years so I'm assuming they are a serious company, and they say they have a warranty system in place.

I dont remember seeing the usual suspects (velobuild and the likes) offering 130/140. But https://shop.fullspeedahead.com/en/stems/road-gravel/ns-acr-stem does offer 130/140; have you tried aliexpress? Worst case either you get an FSA one, or you botch something. Someone on the forum did a nice hack, routing outside the stem, it looked super clean, cutting one of the spacers for cables to enter the headset area. This means you can half legit run a regular stem and still route internally, I believe.

my 5 cents: 177 or GF002.

Looks like a copy of the Wilier Jena
You're right!
Attaching a photo of the Wilier Jena and of the geometry chart.
Note that the GF-003 may be manufactured by SPCycle? (SP-G056). It looks like SPCycle is a bike manufacturer for 10 years (we know that Velobuild does not make frames, they source them and sell them).

And btw, the GF-002 is the SP-G20.

So it looks like SPCycle makes the gravel bikes (GF-002 and GF-003) that Velobuild sells.
Note: SPCycle makes handlebars that flare out in the drops. I think VB sells the same handlebars for both road and gravel bikes?

Has anyone bought from SPCycle direct? How about warranty and such?

have the seraph / tantan version of this on the way here.

Do you have a link and have you seen pics of the bike fully built? I didn't see it on the seraph website?

How did the 34c Schwalbes work out for you on the 168? I got some feedback that 34-35mm actual width would be real tight/rubbing from @kbike and @patliean1 but then there are guys like you where it seems to be fine. Pretty confusing...
my understanding is it wouldn't. Also, it shouldn't.

Yes I can confirm, still very happy with the GF-002. It's a bit more relaxed than my GF-001, but for gravel that's not a bad thing. I just mounted fenders for the first time on this frame as it's that time of year here, and having the additional fork eyelets is really nice as I had a bit of a hack job on the GF-001. Definitely intrigued by the GF-003 and CX-002 as well, although the lack of fender mounts on the CX-002 may be a dealbreaker for me.

What's your take on the geometry difference / best use cases for the GF002 vs GF003?

I see you also have a 168. Given the 2x you have on the gravel, how do you think the bike would feel as a substitude for a road bike if you put road wheels on it? I'm thinking of buying a GF2 or 3 instead of a 177, but most of my riding is still going to be on the road so i'd like something capable.

What wheelset are you running? It looks quite deep, and pretty awesome. Most gravel wheelsets are pretty shallow.

Does anyone have a good ride review to share on the GF-002?  I have been reading some feedback on YouTube on VB's road bikes that they feel "sluggish" and am wondering if they are similar.

That guy sounds super happy, and his brother has a 168 who's also super happy.

And the owner of the DNR SHREDD paint job on this forum, i think, is also v happy with his.

I've never ridden a gravel bike and i m absolutely useless on a MTB, but I suspect that with the volume of air in the tyres, stiffness differences and the likes must be pretty hard to discern? So it's probably down to components, geometry and sizing quite a bit. Geometry must matter a great deal because a slack touring gravel is going to ride v different from an aggressive CX bike (I can imagine long moments of solitude going down rocky trails on a CX frame).

Sub 400 for the frame is impressive. Ali shows me 470 + shipping right now, did you negotiate or you were just seeing a lower price at the time? (Ali also changes offers & prices per geography).

For me it rides a little rougher than my 2019 Aeroad CF SL but I had 28mm tyres on there and on the velobuild its 25mm and a blank carbon saddle.

tan sidewall tyres once these contis are done.

Rim brake? interesting choice! You don't have access to the glut of second hand rim brake bikes everybody is trying to offload? The 25 vs 28mm can alone probably explain the ride difference. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on ride quality difference controlling for contact points, if you ever feel like running a semi scientific experiment.

FYI, Conti GP 5000 exist in "transparent", from memory, which is a dark shade on tan. I have a pair of 25.

Yes!  I have been frame shopping and modelled up a quick comparison between the 3 I'm looking at.  The GF-003 seems more mountain-bike-like with a shorter chain stay, higher stack, and a slacker front/HA.  It also has a threaded BB, which is nice.

Their IG post today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CkbuzBByXTl/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

(PS: first time poster, long time lurker)

That is super helpful! From your drawing, the difference in stack appears very small, but it's actually an 18mm difference (608vs590). But on the wheelbase (what VB calls "G") difference is 611vs626, 15mm, but on your drawing it looks bigger? Are you sure your drawing is accurate, are my eyes lying to me?
