Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Trek Madone frame
« on: March 03, 2023, 10:08:51 AM »
Hey there, i'm sorry in advance for all my grammatical mistakes, not a native speaker.

So, i'm really obsessed with trek madone, but because i'm living in country where the official minimum salary is 80$, i was started to looking at rip off framesets, but i couldn't find any review or information whatsoever. I haven't bought it yet, i'm on the path of making investigation about it's quality and reliability.

1) Let's begin with seller investigation, i've found three main sellers on Aliexpress that sells this frame:
Taiwan Eisen https://www.aliexpress.ru/store/5257218
Rocking Cyling store https://www.aliexpress.ru/store/2189015 (one of the forum members bought Emonda frame from them: https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,4029.msg42719.html#msg42719

And Taobao store: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=694413006667

So, i think there are several manufacturers, at least two, and there a few reason for that, the first one is the frame weight difference is tremendous, 16750 (eisen) and 2045 (taobao), which is huge difference, the second one is that Taobao store have 2023 replica of Madone already, but eisen is planning to release their in April.

2) Frame photos, i collected all the photos from Aliexpress sellers:

Eisen: https://ibb.co/album/LYjQkz
Rocking: https://ibb.co/album/xXdb8d

So, what i learned is that these pictures are low quality, so it's really hard to judge the quality of the frame, i asked sellers to send me high resolution photos, haven't received them yet. But, here are close shots that i already have (all photos from rocking store, waiting photos from eisen, taobao seller didn't want to send high res photos):

BB:https://ibb.co/xMkN9BB https://ibb.co/g7BMn5r https://ibb.co/NjWBXQf
Handlebar: https://ibb.co/9nJFprd https://ibb.co/R3BvkcZ

So, in conclusion, quality is very similar to what Hambini reviewed, Chinarello replica, it has similar problems with BB and some slight imperfection on the stem, but not bad overall.

3) IsoSpeed, many have concerns regarding it, but i made some research, and it's actually a fairly simple mechanism, my most worried part was damper, i thought it was kind of precise and hard to manufacture thing, but in reality it's just a button with (what seems) elastomer: https://ibb.co/MDhYcV5, which is also mentioned on Trek page: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/inside_trek/isospeed/, so i don't think it's that hard to replicate.

4) Carbon fiber, they claim that they use T1000 CF, i asked them is this a Toray, but haven't received the reply yet.

5) If something breaks by your fault, you can buy replacement parts from seller at least Eisen confirmed that you can.

If there will be more information, i will try to share it with you.

My frame is an Emonda copy, I was able to only have one short 50km ride so far.
Long term experience will need a few more months, but so far so good.
There is nothing crazy in terms of technology on this frame that I would expect to cause any problems.

The only negative is, that it uses a copy of the Trek "seat mast" instead of a traditional seat post. You can not easily find such "seat masts" as separate parts on Ali.
In my case I wanted to fit a saddle with carbon rails but the seller could not offer the adapter parts for 7x9 rails.
Finally I found the adapter parts from Kocvelo on Ali that work perfectly with the clone Trek "seat mast":

I would also be careful with the Isospeed copy, my guess is you need to really understand how that thing works before making a copy.

BR Chris

Thanks for the posting, sounds good, will wait for a long term review

He means the part where you wrote that Alu bikes are better at holding speed which is total nonsense  8)

Oh yes, i need to learn express my thought better, not a native speaker also, i'm totally agree with you, what i meant by my message, is that it's really difficult to understand what exactly affects to this holding speed factor, the weight maybe? Not quite sure, every resource says different things. I'm saying that because i compared my giant contend (most budget road bike) with trek madone 2013 and cannondale and they were so much worse than my giant in terms of holding speed, even if these bikes costs 10 times more.

Are you trolling or serious?

No, there's no jokes in my message, but what's part of the message do you mean?

Well I was unsure if I should post anything regarding my new racebike project since it is a copy of a well known brand...

I was curious enough to place an order and build up the bike after checking the inside of the frame with a camera and all looked good.
Seller was the mentioned Rocking cycling store, I ordered the frame on October 19th and it arrived just before Christmas.
The paint quality leaves room for improvement but the rest of the frame, seat mast and handlebar look good. Only the break areas and the handlebar spacers needed some manual work with file and sandpaper...

Here a picture of the finished bike with 105 Di2, Elite Edge wheels GP5000 28mm: Total weight 7.6kg.
First ride was excellent, the bike accelerates fast and holds speed well. Position on the bike is comfortable.

Honestly speaking, if I would have found a similar frame design from a Chinese manufacturer like Seraph or Winspace I would chosen one of their frames instead. But I always liked the design of this particular frame so took the risk to give it a try... if it does not work out it will end up as my indoor bike  ;D

BR Chris

Hey Chris, can you share your experience with us? How bike is holding, what kind of negatives do you have?

Hi there

So, i spend almost a month searching an aero looking frame that have thick tubes, like Madone, or Cervelo S5, but found only Elves Falath Evo, any other frames looks sooo similar for me, so do you have any particular frameset that have thick TT looking frameset?

Agreed with others, please send some pics :)

Also how does it hold speed without pedaling? I know that even high end frames have problem that they don't hold speed as good as aluminium frames.

I also found image of the complete bike on their instagram
