Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Hygge Aero Carbon Frame
« on: August 09, 2023, 09:51:41 AM »
Dang, that's a nice frame!! Very beautiful! Finishing seems really nice too, and that color with the carbon visible is insane, it gives a nice touch to the parts
please keep updated about the next steps on the build and any difficulty you run into, I'm planning on building a new bike next year, and Hygge is definitely in my radar!

One notable exception seems to be Spexcel? In the item and review photos of this product the legs seem to be cut almost too long? The caption says the model is 180cm and wears size S, but the leg grippers are almost loose at their knees!
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005343407124.html
always take descriptions of chinese stores with a grain of salt
and always look for reviews with photos and detailed information, those are more trustworthy
these are 2 of the main things I learned in the 5+ years buying stuff from Aliex

on that case of the Spexcel Bib, there's a reviewer 1.80m/80kg who ordered M and the bibs are slightly shorter than the model on the photos (which would be wearing S)
another guy 1.80/72kg also with M size and this time the bib seems to match the length of the description photos, but here I'd add a factor most people forget (I included) when looking at bibs

description photos are studio photos, the model puts the bib on, takes the photo, then changes to the next bib
but when you start moving and then riding, the bib settles in and normally goes up a bit. That'd be the real length of the bib
so I'd consider more the photos of the reviewer riding and with a bent knee, than the one who's in front of a mirror just trying the bib after arrival

Helmets too, IMO. However, admittedly I haven't seen any bad reports about helmets on Aliex...its just personal preference.
'aliex helmets' is a pretty wide range to put all on the same basket.
something that it's clear in this kind of discussion, and this thread is a perfect example, is that there's a big difference between from cheapest aliex parts, to some mid tier parts that are better finished, have a brand name, but are still cheap

I wouldn't use any kind of explicit knock-off/counterfeit helmets, since my concern is that the factory would be much more focused on the appearance than on the integrity of the material. I know the 'it just needs to work 1 time', but it can not work even once if not well designed... I think that argument fits much better the more expensive range

But it's different if we're talking about some name brands, you have Cairbull which uses knock-off designs but at least has CE approval, or brands like SunriMoon and PMT which are bigger, have their own designs (although many are just famous designs with slight changes), and even go to bike shows. Not the cheapest, but still good prices

One youtube review I saw mentioned MORE friction with the 3d printed saddle and it left their bibs a little shredded. Perhaps that specific model with the glossy coating is what caused it.
I have been using the Ryet Aircode for some months, honestly it's maybe the first saddle I don't have any issues, neither at first nor after some time of use
mainly what I like is that it keeps its' form after hours of use, and I find it pretty comfortable. I'm able to move around but I don't think I do it much.. but that's about shape and it's personal
that friction issue I don't suffer, too, it's all good with all my bibs

Any recommendations on clear glasses? Tried some NRC ones and the clear lenses were far too blurry. Even worse than some cheap $5 DeWalt work goggles.
I have 2 Kapvoe pairs, my favorite is this one. It's a colored photocromic and it works really well, impressed me actually
Kapvoe used to have only copies but now they have a bunch of 'original' models (well, they're all very similar to known models from Oakley, 100% and Scicon, but slightly different)
the quality is really good for the price, it's been years of use and it's holding up very well
it seems it's the same production of those SCVCN that Jonathanf2 linked

3D printed saddles are definitely dropping in price. The Sensah factory store has some lower priced options. I've had good luck with fast shipping from them as well.
yeah, and lot's of different models appearing too, Ryet has a bunch of new launches on their page.. I believe since the sales volume should raise, price will drop

oh, and you mentioned weight, these better models are getting to 160g, there's a new from Ryet which is 144g (claimed), that's pretty light for any saddle, especially for one 3D printed
like, most light cheap saddles are about 100g, a bit lower if pure carbon no padding - and I'd gladly trade those >60g for more comfort

Is it just my app going crazy or did the prices of all Hygge products went up by 200€? Frame was around 600, now it's 800, Pro wheels were around 800, now they are over 1000, cheaper level wheels were 500, now they are over 700.
this is kinda common on Aliexpress.. items are permanently on 'sale' with some discount, and on Aliexpress sales they drop more, so every now and then the price goes up for a few days (max) then comes back down
so they can say it's the full price, and advertise you're paying 25% off, and on actual sales it's 50% off - while, in reality, it's less than that discounts

It looks like there's a new budget option for carbon 3D saddles from Ryet/Lexon. I have the previous version on 2 of my bikes, but I'm curious if this new one is better? I've been quite happy with the previous version mainly due to the robust construction.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805657168196.html
I have the Aircode model from Ryet, the construction is really nice, been about 100h of use and it's all good as day 1.
I'd say this new one should be about the same, from below the carbon and the rail bonding is very similar, it seems just a different shape. The Aircode is shaped like the PRO Stealth and it was perfect for me.
IMO if you have issues with your current ones, or just that you'd like to try a different shape, then go for it.
I'd bet on Ryet's quality, but shape is 100% personal, it can be the best saddle in the world but don't fit you and will feel like shit after some hours.

I've seen a few frighteningly cheap 3d printed saddles. They don't look great, and they're listed by stores that have been opened in the last few months. Not confidence inspiring.
That second one is straight up injection molded totally not 3d printed. Same as the other 14 buck saddle.

I would get the one trace velo uses. That one is proven at least.  Then again I am using a super cheap saddle. I dont know if I like it or not.
Yeah, having proven options going around, I'd not bet on these unknown brands and/or stores.

The Trace Velo one is the ZEUSZ or something like that, RaceWork brand is using them too for their saddles
It's available in 2 versions, I believe Luke's is the first one, and they released a more expensive one with improved rails bonding, very similar to the Ryet Aircode one

Ryet's is cheaper if I'm not wrong, and you can find a number of users here who have it (including myself), so I'd say it has good feedback.

Didn't Ltwoo already have auto-trimming but had to disable it in an update because of patents?
yes, from the last Trace Velo video, on LTwoo ERX, he mentions the first few versions had the auto-trim, but the newest ones had it removed
I suppose when the patent expires they can just add it back by firmware update

Does it let you rejoin at a different part of the course, or insist you return to where you left the course to rejoin?
no matter where you rejoin, it'll update for what's left on the route

when you're out of route but it's still on screen, it doesn't do anything, it just shows you're out on the map and you can go ahead and rejoin or simply choose another path, it just doesn't reroute, see example here
if you then move away from the route until it's out of screen, then an arrow shows up, pointing to the closest direction to rejoin the route, see here. This arrow goes away when you're like >1km far away from the route, or something like that

Any suggestions for front lights? Needs to have an underside gopro mount
I got a Gaciron V9M-1000 lumen and it works really well, the quality actually impressed me, aluminum body, easy to operate... just the battery could be bigger, when at 1k lumen mode it dies rather quickly (~1hr), but it can be charged while using so you could connect it to a power bank if needed.
It can attach to gopro mount through an adapter (bought in separate) and it has a quick-release, which is really practical. I think most Gaciron lights are like that, I recommend the brand since I also see it being well reviewed around other forums

Gaciron is more cost-efficient than MagicShine or Infitnix, for example, but if you want something cheaper try looking at Towild, which I also see being well reviewed. Rockbros or Thinkrider could also be options, they're not the manufacturers but have a bunch of models

got this new launch from IGPSports, the BSC300 for around USD 120 https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005005670708376.html
update on this, received last week, had 2 rides on it. It works really well, easy to operate. The screen is very nice, easy to read, colored. The navigation, which was the main motive I got it, is really nice too, it shows you're out of route and helps you getting back (while not rerouting, just pointing to the direction of the route)
overall a really good option for the price, considering that to go up a tier you need to double the price (or almost)

I think nickobec got some good options here. I'm running an OG-Evkin set for 2yrs now and the quality is really good, especially for the price. Unfortunately the aero models are all >400mm, if you want 380 you need to go round...
Ryet could be a great cost-effective option too, their quality is really good from what I here guys with Lexon/Ryet frames and parts comment out there

Toseek seems to have really good products, but I've seen some bad comments around (like Trace Velo breaking one of their bars), which leaves me apprehensive... maybe this Firespider can offer a smaller chance of issues, being their 'high quality' line

If I want to go aero alloy, then 380mm Prime Doyenne from Wiggle https://www.wiggle.com/p/prime-doyenne-aero-handlebar more expensive and heavier probably 350g. Everything on AliExpress is wider 400mm and heavier over 400g
OE-EVKIN for CF round bars in 360 and 380mm https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001069341353.html
SERAPH 380mm at hoods, 400mm at drops, CF and aero https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000768089212.html
RYET 380mm at hoods and drops, CF and aero https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004789998307.html

so, received this last week this new gillet from YKYW
it's not all 'seamless' as sold, but it indeed has the seams covered on the most exposed areas. Fabric is thin, really light, and comfortable. I've folded it when riding to put on the back pocket and got impressed at the small size of it.

now YKYW just launched some new colored jerseys, very different from the 'common' offers
I need to control myself. lol. I'm not riding a lot outside these last months, and just can't handle the current amount of clothing I have, still I'm buying more. lol

The sad story...I really wanted this jacket  :'(. I didn't want it for free and also I didn't want to have something that is pretty much too large to wear. I really like my first jacket,  it's a great fabric.I wanted to have a second one  :o
try taking a look at YKYWB portfolio, on the beginning they seemed to mimic Spexcel's offers so it's possible they have a similar product
I have a thermal bib from them and really like it, comfortable, and it's a thin fleeced fabric

Although the stuff i have currently (besides the jacket with the holes) is nice , I won't order again at Spexcel. It's just not worthy to have a roulette game regarding sizes. And then there was the bad reaction from the seller also. Mistakes happen.. but if they happen and the reaction is like this...
I can spend my money somewhere else!
I think I already shared here my experience with Spexcel, but somewhat similar...

got a jersey which was an XS instead of an 'S' according to size table, managed to get refund but the seller communication was no good. I ended up getting 2 other jerseys from them, which I got a very nice price and decided to take the risk, those were very good and size according to table
but the times I tried to talk with the seller about products, clear doubts about details, it's not good (and not only language barrier, like I get with most stores on AliEx)

so the feeling is the same, I prefer to spend my money somewhere else

Anyone has a recommendation for custom team wear on Ali?
I think YKYWBike does customs, it could be a good option, considering it's a known brand with good feedback

The only issue is that the S size are two cm short on the leg for me.
I find that with all chinese brands the leg is always shorter than it should
I'm yet to find a model with longer legs, most fit ok when you put on, but when you start to move they get too short

https://aliexpress.com/item/1005005368937229.html
$15. Just not on the official store. It was the color I wanted, I'm risking it.
Also buying the bibs from the official darevie store, both have been sitting in my carts for months.
No sizing guide, I'm usually a size L bibs size M jersey, 1m84/75kg. Referred to comments and got both in L
this 'Manufacturer direct' store, afaik, is for special sales on Aliexpress. Stores offer a limited quantity of certain products at a special price through these links, also because if you get to X amount on these sales items you have free shipping and other advantages. Should be safe.

about sizing, I'm 1.73m/63kg and from Darevie I'm a M size bibs, S size jersey.. but my thighs are a bit big for my weight, so I believe you should be ok on that size, just probably short on leg length

1.  Response time to display incline/grade:  My unit seems to lag behind the actual grade of the hill I am climbing. Often takes 5-6 seconds to recalculate and display the grade changes.  (I will have ridden past a steep section of a climb before it displays what the grade was.)
2.   On really steep climbs, often 20+% grades, I may have to walk or can be pedaling at around 2mph,  the computer stops recording, after 20 to 30 second it will stop recording, and/or turn off until I go faster than 2mph.
the grade update I find it slow on my Bryton420 too, the units seem to rely on the last few meters to calculate the slope, and it ends up taking some time. I don't have any experience with more expensive units from Garmin or Wahoo, so I don't know if the high-end models are instant or all have some delay

about the pause feature, have you tried turning off auto-pause? or in some units you can setup a minimum speed for it to pause/resume, try looking for that on the setup.
I know it's frustrating but I think that's a situation with any unit, my Bryton auto-pauses when I'm slower than 5kmph

I also noticed the IGPSport IGS630 isn't on AliExpress. I'm wondering which would be a better buy between the the IGS630 and BSC300? Do both offer navigation or just pre-loaded route mapping? I haven't used a proper nav system yet, because I tend to just get lost to find interesting routes!
For the igs630, since it's their top model, IGPSport is trying to focus on local dealers, and then Aliexpress becomes an issue since they ship anywhere in the world and region blocking is hard, so better to just avoid having it there in any way

about the differences, igs630 has bigger screen and battery than bsc300
talking features and data field config they're pretty much the same, but igs630 has more fields (since bigger screen), and the big difference is the navigation experience

on bsc300 you have routes, and the whole map is shown also - city blocks, near streets, etc and you can zoom in/out - but if you leave the route it'll not adjust, it'll just say you're out, it's sort of an 'offline navigation'
now, for igs630 you have the full navigation, you can upload routes and it adjusts if you make a detour, and it also has the 'climb' feature seen (similar) in Garmin and Wahoo
at least that's what I gather from reviews I've seen
now, the 'better buy' I believe it's personal, from your budget and what you need more, too. For me, the differences are not worth the upgrade since it's a lot more money
