I went with this one, $21 off of Amazon and free shipping if you have Prime.  You can choose glossy or matte finish.  Mine was right at 100 g.

I haven't done any long rides, but for a one hour ride it feels as good as any saddle I've used.  It felt fine riding around the neighborhood in regular shorts, but I wouldn't go for a real ride without padded shorts.  It is 125 mm wide and seems to fit my ass OK.  It has carbon rails, which are taller than normal saddle rails but fit fine on my EC-70 post.

I am concerned about how long it will last, as I weigh 205 lbs/93 kg and seem to be pretty heavy on the saddle- all of my saddles creak eventually, and I have had one break (the rail).   Maybe my fear of the carbon rails snapping will convince me to stay out of the saddle on any rough terrain. :)

But I really hope the 256 didn't crack.

Time to start hucking :)

Definitely cause for concern- are you sure it's a crack and not just a surface scratch?  Can you hear anything when you squeeze the area with your hand?

The -057 frame is going to be very tight :(

I may have to switch to a WTB in the rear, which is disappointing since my 29er 2.4 Continentals are 59 mm wide.  I guess an extra 3 mm all around is a lot more volume, but it doesn't sound like it.

No worries, SportingGoods.  Hope you enjoyed your trip to the US.  Were you able to ride anywhere?

I got impatient and ordered all the bits to build up the wheelset and the Nobby Nic 2.8 tires.  I found a few measurements on MTBR.com that gave me a little more confidence that it would fit.  It's tough to get a good measurement, but it looks like I should be OK.  I will definitely have less tolerance for dishing that with a normal tire, though.  If it doesn't fit, I guess I have to buy a new frame to go with the wheels. :)

Thanks Johnny- my current saddle is also 125 mm wide, so I may try it.

Any reviews on the SD1 or SD2 saddles from Peter or other vendors?  I'd like to try one, but would like feedback and actual measurements if anyone has them.

SportingGoods, can you tell me how far from the axle the widest part of the Nobby Nic is?  I'm starting to order parts to build up the plus size wheels, and want to see if the NN might fit on the -057 frame.

Also, did you go with the XC or All Mountain Version of the rims?

If you haven't seen 325racer's awesome woodgrain paint job, check it out-

I had mine painted a solid color by the seller (Peter, when he was with XMIplay) - partly for simplicity since there is less chance for error, and partly because I couldn't come up with a design that I really liked better than a bright red bike.  I added a gold vinyl dragon sticker on the down tube- it does get covered with mud pretty easily.  You can find plenty of stock designs or sites that will print custom ones.

In the future I could remove the dragon and add some chrome and white accents, like this-

Nice!  Great looking bike.

I agree though, calling it a "Gravel Grinder" is really selling it short.  It's pretty much the same as my -057, but I have a SID instead of a Reba and a 2X up front.  I'd wager it could handle just about any trail in Florida :)

The weather has been pretty nice the last couple of weeks in Georgia- I've gotten in several rides at the local trail.  This is at the top of one climb where another trail intersects (it's a spaghetti bowl type of layout- lots of trail crammed in to a relatively little space)

This past weekend I went camping at Cloudland Canyon state park in the northwest corner of Georgia.  Great scenery, and we had a great time.  Neither of the guys I camped with ride, but I got in a good ride at the Five Points trail system which is in the eastern part of the park.  Great trails- lots of flowy, fast motocross style trails, and also some good rock gardens.  Twenty something miles total, plus a ~6 mile connector trail that goes back to the main area of the park (I only rode about half of it, got to go back :) ).   It got cold (close to freezing) Saturday night and we got some sleet Sunday morning, but not enough to cause any problems.

That's closer to the normal price for 350 hubs.  Feedback is good, and ships from Salt Lake City.  Hmmmm....

Awesome video- thanks for sharing!  Makes me want to move to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Tahoe, etc...

Looks like you stayed in the ski tracks most of the time- did you ever get off into untracked snow?  That's probably hard to find in the ski area, but just wondering how well it does in soft snow.  How do your regular 29er tires compare on the packed snow?

Thinking about doing this on my -057.  I've sent Peter a note about the 35 mm internal width rims, as I'd like to build up the wheelset.  Would these take standard hubs?

I used DT Swiss Revolution spokes on my 29er wheels- any opinions on whether to use the light spokes, or just go with Champion or Competition spokes (or similar)?

Will do!  I meant to get up there last year, just never did.  It's only a little over an hour away with no traffic, hopefully we'll get a break from the rain!
