Does virtual shifting not work for Zwift workouts in resistance mode?  I've never tried it, so not doubting, genuine question.  I know that in ERG mode, shifting will change the target power, and in free-ride mode, it'll act as a gear change, but not sure about resistance mode in a workout.  Zwift cog or single speed with a tensioner would be really reliable and simple, if it works for your setup.

I use Sensah 11 speed on my trainer.  It's been working for several years and a few thousand Zwift miles.  I routed the cables externally with really big bends to minimize cable wear and friction.
Yeah it would work. You can just turn off ERG and virtual shift. Virtual shifting is amazing on the trainer, but Zwift is kind of expensive to use year round and if I'm just doing a workout I usually watch bike racing or something on the screen.

I do Zwift for just riding around or racing, but when doing workouts I do them on a phone app or on my Garmin and always turn off ERG-mode for efforts >threshold (because that's what you're supposed to do, or so I've heard).

using the small ring is less noisy than the big one, at least on my machines. It assumes ERG mode / virtual incline though, otherwise obviously you spin out.

BB is 10-12 eur.
crankset can be had for <40 eur w rings, i think, if you buy the cheapest, heaviest ones. Fairly good one costs 45 (crank & rings) (I recently specced that on 2 bikes for friends, perfectly legit stuff).
sensah mechanical w mechanical brakes, i've used, it works. A friend is very happy with the ltwoo R9 mechanical, hydro, i suspect they do the same, cheaper, mechanical / mechanical. If you go 10 speed or less, it gets really, really cheap, but idk if it's as good as the 11s stuff i'm talking about, i simply do not know.
11s cassette is 20-25 eur.
All shipped to Europe as of a few weeks ago.


Sensah is an option for sure. Was looking for 10 speed stuff but reviews and stuff are few and far between.

So I bought a mostly broken down bike for extremely cheap to put on the trainer. I cleaned it up, fixed the drivetrain as much as possible, stripped it of breaks and such and it works... fine, not great. It's complete Tiagra 4600 and apart from everything being pretty worn I hate the ergonomics of the 4600 shifters.

I'm looking at a cost effective way of upgrading the drivetrain. Mostly doing Zwift (with virtual shifting) or workouts in ERG-mode, or turning off ERG-mode for VO2 and threshold efforts. Thus, I don't find the need for 2 chainrings, I'm never in small. As it's indoor only, weight is not a concern at all. Shifting quality really isn't either, as I rarely will shift.

Looking for:
  • Bottom bracket
  • Crankset (or just a new chainring for the Tiagra crankset I guess)
  • Rear derailleur
  • Cassette
  • Shifters

Anyone done anything similar, or have some good ideas?

Are there any brands out there that have thicker Lycra?

Tempted on the Lameda but I've exceeded my monthly spend on bike stuff. Need to hold off a bit with the YOLOing
Thinking about it, the Lycra is probably similar thickness as other aliex-bibs but others (for example YKYW) have seams and different textured fabrics in certain areas. Makes them feel less naked

I only tried a few Chinese bibs but usually just roll with ASSOS. For cycling pants that gets rare use like tights or strapless I buy YKYW. I don’t do long rides in the cold and strapless for commuting (which isn’t super long either).

Bought this recently to replace my 1.5hr> bibs that I recently retired (Assos Neo Pro, almost 8 yrs)

It's honestly not bad. The pad can be position a bit further back. The leg grippers are A+ and the length is perfec. Compression is there although I may need to size up

Thinking of buying some Lameda next time. Joe from Panda Podium speaks highly of them
Yeah the pad is pretty good, on par if not better than the Ykyw EI-pad (that seems to be almost gone now).

Only problem with these bibs is the lycra is very thin and it’s seamless, which makes me feel a bit naked, so I never bought more than the pair I have.

No, the Aircode is insanely stiff. It was my first carbon saddle and I was expecting flexy, bendy carbon. What I got was a chunk of carbon fiber so stiff I would have thought it was a solid aluminum block. Still, I didn't find it uncomfortable. The shape of the Aircode is pretty good for me, honestly, but that nose is just too wide and the exposed carbon rim would occasionally get me if I didn't seat myself down on it just right.

I eventually bought a different Ryet carbon saddle with a more rounded edge (that is also covered with mesh and doesn't just leave exposed carbon) and has a MUCH thinner nose. Notably, the carbon is more like what I expected it to be, it's very flexy and bendy. Not nearly so stiff as the Aircode, not even close. I don't find it *quite* as comfortable as the Aircode, but it doesn't have those specific problems.
No what I meant is that the 3D printed upper is dramatically different in terms of how soft it is between these saddles. Both saddles are Aircodes, one is from early 2024 with plastic base and one is from late 2024 with carbon base.
I thought the upper would be consistent between the saddles, but it really is not. I kind of wish I had a durometer so I could prove it.

I ran the plastic base Ryet Aircode on my aluminium rim break bike most of last year and was super happy. Always comfy.
I got a new carbon bike with carbon hoops during winter sales, and paired it with a carbon base Aircode, figured I'd save some weight.

The new bike had been out just a few times and I never got along with the new saddle. I assumed it was a fit issue (always difficult to perfectly re-do a fit between bikes), so I was messing around with saddle setback/angle a lot.

But yesterday I just realized the saddle with the carbon base has a super stiff upper, like it's a dramatic difference to the other one I have.
Swapped over the plastic base saddle to the new bike and went out today and I was comfy again.

I don't know if there's different batches or if this is a general issue? I kind of want to get a carbon base "soft" aircode, might just try those new softer uppers then.

Not aero-socks, just normal ones (well if there's some like the Silca aero socks out there I'd be interested).

Is it really that difficult to find good deals? It took me a while to figure out the dos and don'ts of product categories and brands, but now that I know it's still incredibly easy to find high value parts...for now...
I'm terrible at understanding how to get value of the deals and coupons and whatever rocket science I need to apply to get the big savings.
I usually just look at the list price during the day, if it's a price I'm willing to pay I just add it to cart and then some coupons are applied and I'm happy. I'm sure I can optimize more and I wish I knew how to.

Anyone know of good quick links, both 11 speed and 12 speed (if there's any difference, I wouldn't know).

I usually re-use quick links but after a while I figure it's time to change. And I always want to carry spares and with riding a few different bikes and changing what I carry with me each time the spare quick links always seem to disappear.

The price for new ones are crazy. They should be $1 but it's like $15 for 2 if I go to my LBS.

I emailed Magene asking about Di2 compatibility (because I’ve read some concerning things about the clearance to the front derailleur) but they basically replied it’s compatible but will be improved with new QED chainrings (but I think their response is more general, not Di2 specific). The email is obviously translated but my take is that there’s some new chainrings that might be available on Magene.com right now but not on AliExpress yet.

Just something to consider for those who also will go for the Magene chainrings.
