Yes, that's what I meant  :)

I've been looking online for thin-enough socket keys, but I can't find anything. There's really very little space around the nut - less than 1mm I would say. I think it's either 7mm or 8mm, but I can't make sure as there's no space for my calipers. Any pointers?

No, it's very small, something like a 2mm hex. I need to take another look, but so far I couldn't get those small hex keys to hold onto it -- it seemed round. (Maybe it was stripped while assembling at the factory... I'll check the other pedal).

(The black plastic cap on top was indeed a 8mm hex).

Oh, I understand what you meant now: there's a hex nut around that small axle I was looking at. I'll have to find a very thin socket wrench as there is very little space around the nut. Thanks!

Isn't that just a hex nut? A lot of pedals have them in exact that position. Normally you can get them off with the right size of socket. Will probably be 8 or 9 mm

On my gravel bike, I have ZERAY ZP-108S pedals. These are 283 g and they've been just OK. One of the screws fell out and one pedal is a little harder to clip in and out of. The bearings have also needed some adjustments. To be fair, they've taken a few hard rock strikes. I also got these from Amazon but there are a few sellers on AliExpress as well.

I'm using the same Zeray ZP-108S pedals and am pretty happy with them. However, one of the pedals came with too much preload, and therefore doesn't spin as freely as the other.

I've opened its plastic cap (see attachment) but can't figure out how to disassemble it further: the screw head inside doesn't seem to take a hex wrench -- the inside of its head looks round (see other attachment). Could you help?

In the end I realized my Ziino bars have just enough space in the central round section for me to add regular round-clamp clip-ons on either side of the stem. It's a tight fit but it works.

I'm using the Decathlon/Van Rysel clip-ons https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/long-distance-triathlon-handlebar-extensions/_/R-p-303804

I might try out the carbon WinnowSports/Seraph bars in these clamps later.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I use a 80mm Uno alloy stem, so the ControlTech Falcon Mini stem-mount combined with third-party bars sounds promising. I'll have to see if the stem dimensions are compatible. Not sure though, since the ControlTech website says they're only compatible with their own stems? But since it attaches around the stem tube it might work.

I have found this on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006263236960.html These would probably fit my requirements, at least the length and spacing is adjustable. I'm not sure how much you can adjust the pad position.
But they are designed for flat aero handlebars, and I'm using oval-shaped gravel bars from Ziino: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006624272139.html. I asked if they'd be compatible, and the seller told me he's not sure, so I probably won't try my luck.

Nice, thanks. I was also eyeing the Chasing Wind (CWind) GR30, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005678330464.html. They look very similar, are they the same?

Any other recommendations for metal frames with wider tyre clearances than the Tsunami Seaboard GR02? 42mm is a bit small. Ideally I'd like 50mm, also to be able to easily use fenders.

Hi all,

I'm considering trying out aero bars. I'd like some with a bit of adjustability (I think both length and pad width?) since I don't know yet what position will suit me best. (I often ride in the aero-hoods position, so I should be flexible enough overall).

On AliExpress I could only find only:
- many sellers for the zero adjustability ones: https://a.aliexpress.com/_EushgcL
- these with 3 different shapes but no adjustment
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EQPYtUR
- various alloy models, none of which looked very good quality (many with glued on pads)

Do you know of any better options?

Yes, Novatec D411/412 definitely work; so far that's one option I've been offered, as well as an OEM Taiwanese model with 36T ratchet through Peter at xmcarbonspeed.com.

I'm just wondering about what sort of tradeoffs I'd be making. Esp. since opinions of Novatec seem to vary online, and I couldn't find any tests of the D411/412 even though it's been in the market for several years.

Overpriced ... they should not be compared at all, different leagues ;) .

Where could I learn more about the differences between the various hub brands and models? Especially now that many brands are allowed to make DT Swiss style star ratchets, it's hard to understand the tradeoffs I'd be making with cheaper hubs.

You can get a (much) lower price point than that from Peter, c.34mm wide rims, various depths, no holes in rim bed, pillar wing 20 spokes (better value & performance than sapim cx ray, apparently) with no-name "taiwan" hubs. Just ask him by email. I bought 4 such wheelsets from him.

Yes, I've emailed him already, and also got in touch with speerdercycling.com. I'm trying to understand the options a bit better before I order.

By the way, Peter appears to have only wavy rims in the wider widths I'm looking for. What's a good resource on the pros/cons of wavy rims?

Hello all,

I'm new here and trying to figure out the specs for my first carbon gravel wheelset.

I'm currently using a QR frame but plan to switch to through-axle in the future, so I'd like to get wheels compatible with both.
IIUC this means though-axle 100 front / 142mm rear + QR adapters.

I see several different types of adapters on AliExpress:
- cap-only adapters
- adapters that go through the axle completely

In addition it seems some hub brands (e.g. DT Swiss, Novatec) sell proprietary adapters?

I'm confused, please help :)

Well, value and weight are also important :)
I don't know much about hubs yet, but it seems DT Swiss are a bit overpriced compared to other brands like Novatec ?

Hi all, I'm new here and thinking about getting my first carbon wheelset for my gravel bike. I'm trying to stick to a lower budget and good reliability (e.g. I'd like steel spokes rather than carbon), but also ease of tubeless setup. I saw that 9Velo GV wheels have a rim bed without holes, which seems like a great feature for tubeless.

Are any of the other brand people have discussed here offering hole-less rims, hopefully at a bit lower price? Or should I just go ahead with 9Velo GV 45 for ~800 EUR?
