Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: 1 x 12 Sram TT Setup
« on: September 13, 2024, 04:06:35 PM »
I had 52t 10-30 on my bike and it was fine. Back to 2x12 50/39 at the moment because no race is flat here. SRAM with blips. Mech hydro disc calipers. I may try 52/10-36 and see how that goes.

I run 140mm cranks, and I do around 90 cadence. I prefer to spin up hills and hate grinding.

You can see here. Only 19mm of exposed steerer tube on the original. The clamping area of the supplied stem is 29mm. They said it was normal for the tube to be slightly below the top of the stem.

ok, so winow made a mistake and you had to pay for it? this sounds strange...we are still looking for a solid source for our upcoming tt frame (we want to equip it with a full load of btas, rear bottleholders etc...and want to make it for a fair price...

In my Aliexpress discussion with the representative, from what I gathered is that they don't believe there is anything wrong with the steer tube only being clamped by the bottom bolt of the supplied stem.

Another option which you may have already considered: You can get a wheel cover from EZ gains for cheaper than a disc wheel for essentially the same aero benefits. You could use the money saved towards another complete wheelset with a good hub that you put the cover on if you don't feel like swapping it. Or just put them on your already nice wheels.

I have one and it is quite nice.

Any issues with your stem slipping / rotating around the steerer? I've been putting off swapping it out for a PD Tri stem because I don't want to deal with recabling / bleeding the front end, but might see if Winow will replace mine if it's possible it's a one-off issue.

I ended up paying a "discount" for a new fork, painted, and shipped. Bit annoying but still cheaper than a new frame and trying to return this.

I have it setup with a $20 120mm road stem I got off Amazon. Torqued to 5mm. Absolutely no slipping since both bolts are on the steer tube. I've ridden outside for a few 1hr training rides and the bike has been excellent.

Does mean I have the cables running outside the stem, which is fine for now.  Using mech cables means I need to avoid as many hard bends as I can.

I may move the saddle back 10mm and move to a 110mm stem to get the weight a little further back on the bike. The PD tri stem looks like a possible good upgrade if I can get a 105mm stem to work for me with the current extensions. I will probably need to replace the cups with ones that can adjust longer.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Crankset options 165mm?

I also use those driveline cranks at 140mm for triathlon. Have a 150mm set on my wife’s gravel bike as well. Nice that you can get 8 bolt.

how does it ride?

I'm 185cm, so about 6ft1...

Winow advises a 58, but i'm afraid it will be too big

I’ve only ridden it once outside with a steer tube extension plug while I wait for new fork. Been just using it on the trainer due to safety.

It felt great with 32mm tubeless tires at around 60psi. Aero position felt solid. I’m running 2x SRAM AXS with mech hydraulic breaks. They don’t feel as good as true hydraulics but no issues stopping down a fast descent.

I took BadIdeasMakeGoodStories advice and swapped the riser bolts. Does feel more secure than when I tried it with the supplied ones on the trainer.

I got a 54.  Im 182.5 cm tall with an 82cm inseam. With short legs long torso I wanted a smaller frame.  I’m running a 110mm stem currently. I could have made a 56 work but the geo compared to other companies and my road bike I’ve been using with clip on aero bars made 54 seem the better fit.

I received the frame. The steerer tube is cut way too short. The top pinch bolts on the supplied stem are above the tube. I’ve requested a new fork that isn’t cut so short. Stem is bad anyway but at least it shouldn’t be unsafe to use it. 19mm of exposed steer tube and the stem has a 29mm clamping area.

I ordered some Onirii BR-05, some jagwire compressionless housing, slick brake cables, and some cheap bar end levers. $66 US after tax. Much cheaper than anything fully hydraulic. The calipers are mech hydraulic and I read reviews that they are nearly as good as Juin Tech F1s which should be plenty of breaking power for flat course racing.

I ordered the TT-119

If i understand that correctly, for TT we can run AXS with just blips and RD/FD.
Im not familiar with sram, but the Apex AXS XPLR described to work with Shimano HG cassettes.
Does that mean I can just update my setup above with just Apex XPLR RD and Blips swap (and put shimano 12sp 11-30 cassette)?

As far as the XPLR RD goes,  SRAM says the XPLR is only compatible with 10-36, 11-44, 10-44 cassettes. You may have issues going down to the 11-30.

May be better off getting a standard Rival AXS rear derailleur which is specced for 30-36T cassettes. If you are in the US, I often see them for significantly cheaper than XPLR RDs.

I use wireless blips on my road bike with aero bars, it's awesome. I just ordered a TT Frame off Ali and plan to move everything over to it. Going to get some ~$150/pair Juin Tech F1 hydro-mech brakes with some $10 levers and use two sets of blips, one pair on the extensions and one on pair on the base bar. Paying $400-500 for SRAM/TRP/RideRever hydraulic bar end brakes.... I can get a set of AXS Force shifters with calipers for that. No thanks.

The force shifters on the road bike are going to a gravel bike. Road frame is going to be sold or live on the trainer. Haven't decided.

EDIT - Apparently I can get RideRevers for $269 a set, that may make them better than the Juin Techs in the long run. Hmm

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Gr048 with Tansmission?

Seraph/Tantan don’t advertise that it is a UDH compatible frame, did you ask them or am I missing something from their website/ali store? I’m also interested in this frame but want a UDH so I don’t have to wait for weeks to get a new hanger. Also for the possibility of an 13sp apex xplr transmission in the future.  8)

I see that it's up on the website, how do you get the fork without bolt holes? Is it also possible to get the frame with fewer holes?

When I messaged them via email, they said they could do the fork without bolt holes. They also said they will eventually have semi-internal available. Probably if through AE would need to put a note with your order.

I'm disappointed they went with the upper side of Canyon's crazy sizing. I need a 2XS.

Probably going to have to go with the CFR707 to get UDH + BSA/T47 + standard seat post + good tire clearance + semi-internal.

Nice bike!

Pretty sure I am going to order one of these with the next sale. Been looking for something that can run 32mm tires. I want that extra comfort. So many triathlons require riding on the shoulder or a road that isn't perfect.

Can I ask what frame size you went with and your height/inseam? I am looking at the 54, which should fit my 182/81 the best based on geometry and my sizing for other brands.
