Figured I share some of the progress.  Today was the bulk of building process.  Just waiting on the hardware for my FOX Float Factory rear shock, waiting on a seat clamp, 180mm XT rotor for rear and still need to cut some tubes there, but it sure is taking shape.  So far pretty happy with the results  :D.

It is the FM1001, and Vortac acknowledged that in another standalone thread they made about the DIYCarbon version. Still coming from China with a middle man when no one seems to have an issue dealing with Carbonda directly. Curious what DIYCarbon will actually offer that is different. Seems like their US presence doesn't actually mean anything if the frames are painted and shipped from China.

Nailed it.

In my particular case DIY’s frame was cheaper (albeit not by much) but much faster shipping.

It looks to be same frame as Carbonda FM1001 discussed here quite a lot :-)

It sure is.  I researched the frame really well the last few weeks.  There was a lot info on Carbonda’s version of this frame, but not that much on DIY’s version, so I thought I’d chip in and share my experience in case it helps anybody down the road…

DIY carbon is based in the US right?
So their factory is in hong kong?

Not really based in the US, they just got a warehouse in Georgia and a local phone number to reach out and leave voicemails and such.  According to Ty, this warehouse has some stock of matte and glossy black frames for quick shipping to clients in the US.  My frame had custom paint, so it had to come from Asia, that’s where the bulk of their operation is.

I’ve had fantastic communication with Ty, not sure where he’s at, but I don’t think he’s Asian, he replies to me emails super quick with perfect English, and also during normal US times, which leads me to believe he may be here in US, but not really sure.  I’ve reached out to him a bunch the last few weeks and his communication has been stellar.

Hey all.  Thought I’d post this here since there wasn’t much info on this frame around here.  Just got the frame today.  Took a bit to get the ball started in terms but once it got to paint it took weeks to complete the custom design.  Once paint was done Ty shipped it super fast.  Left HK on the 8th and arrived at my place today, Nov 11th.

I’ve ordered and built numerous bikes, MTB, road and TT bike.  This one by far showed the most competent paint job, finishings and packaging.  They nailed my design and color request, so far so good.

Planning on finishing her up with XT brakes, Fox Float II Factory rear shock, front RS Lyric in red, SRAM Eagle X01 with AXS transmission, and 29iN Carbon wheels from ICAN.

Can’t wait to see how it turns out.  More pics to follow.  :D

Yes. That can be done. Just google the fork name and then air shaft and you will fine options.

Awesome, thanks Jeff.

Didn’t think that would be an option, good point.  Looking at a 2022 Rockshox Lyric Ultimate RC2 29”, in red…. Could that be done to this type of fork?

29er / Carbonda CFM1001 / DIY Carbon DCB F140 Fork travel limitations
« on: October 09, 2024, 06:39:39 PM »
Fork travel recommendations by frame manufacturer suggest travel between 140-150mm.  Found the fork I really want but it’s got 160mm travel.

Has anybody over-traveled this frame with a fork that has 10mm more vs recommended travel?  Any recommendations or suggestions or consequences about this?  I usually never go outside of the manufacturers recommendations on anything I build, but in this case I’m not too sure 10mm would make too much of a difference.

Anybody care to educate me a bit on this?
Thx!

Their DCB F140 is just a Carbonda FM1001 but they claim different rear travel for the same shock sizes. Identical geo charts

Yeah, I noticed that, but DIY seems to have a branch and/or warehouse here in USA (GA amd Delaware) and some kind of footprint here in the country I live, so I was wondering if that would be a better option in terms of shipping times or post sale service/warranties.  Frame is still coming from china, just thought they could have the upper hand over Carbonda because of location.  The price of both frames is almost identical at about $1,000-ish shipped…

Because they have the frame I like with with the geometry I’m looking for.  Already researched Ican, hongfu, tideace, spcycle, Airwold, dengfu, et al…

https://madscientistmtb.com/bike-geometry-compare/

Input both bikes into this calculator.  To compare hardtail properly, input at the top a negative fork travel for how much sag you have.  Then in the bottom calculations, "Calculated Seated Fit" is saddle to bars.  You'll find that with the same ETT, your saddle to bars will be very close and it's the reach that differs.  So it'll feel similar length while seated, but your body is rotated forward with a bit more weight on the hands, but a steeper STA longer reach bike will feel longer while standing.

The picture visualization is perfect to see how they compare, then if you really like your current fit, you can see how stem, stack, handlebar, etc changes will dial it in, so you can make a good guess at what size components to start with.

Great info, thanks acedeuce802!

29er / Any recent experiences with DIY Carbon?
« on: September 30, 2024, 03:26:39 PM »
I tried to search through here and other forums about recent experiences on dealing with them, most of the stuff I've come across is 3+years old, and not too helpful.  I just noticed that they have a warehouse/facility here in US, that definitely caught my attention.  I'm eyeballing their DCB F140 trail frame.  Wouldn't mind giving them a shot, just thought I'd reach out and see if anybody has dealt with them recently.

Thx!
V.

Thanks Cerps, it makes complete sense.  The light carbon examples you mention made it pretty easy to understand.  Thanks a million.

Received and replied, but haven’t gotten the quote for a fully built wheel set yet.

Thx!
