Nope, not needed at all. Shifted just fine without, can't say I notice any difference with.

All done! Final weight as pictured is 9970g. Not too bad considering I haven't really specced it with a lightweight mindset.

Seatpost and handlebar from Peter. Stem is Ritchey Comp.
Groupset, brakes and pedals are Shimano XT M8000 except cassette which is SRAM GX 10-42 (XG-1150?). Running 1x11. Using a GoatLink to make the Shimano derailleur cooperate with the 10t sprocket.
Fork is DT Swiss OPM OL 100mm with remote lockout. Using a ReMount to have the lockout lever where the front shifter would be.
Wheelset is from asiancyclexpress.com. Novatec 772 hubs laced to Kinlin lightweight alloy rims. Tubeless ready if need be.
Saddle is Selle Italia Flite.
Bottle cages: None! I use a Camelbak Circuit or Octane.

Wow. Looks already cool.

Guys, I have a question regarding the fs frames weight. How do you think, which weight can be considered as 'light'? What is the weight 'trade-off' from the chinese fs frames over the branded one?

I can't speak for carbon fs frames but I've got an aluminium fs with 120mm travel, the frame alone was about 3kg and the complete bike built for all mountain use is 14kg.

As I had to cut the rear brake hose to remove the brake levers from the old frame I had to get a new set of hose. Such a pleasure to work with dry brake hoses - no spraying oil all over the place when I cut it to length. I've now installed most of the parts, what's left is filling and bleeding the rear brake. I've installed a Wolf Tooth remount for my fork lockout, cockpit looks so much cleaner without that housing sticking out in the front. Also a GoatLink for the rear mech as I've installed a SRAM 10-42 cassette. Will be interesting to see if shifting is improved.

That Shimano tool makes BB92 really no more work than BSA.

dudleik, Frame looks awesome. I have an 036 waiting for me at home tonight and I'm practically ready to just walk out of work and start building! I'll keep following this thread. I'm excited to see how your build turns out.

My first version (http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,741.msg8216.html) of the frame got a crack in the seat tube, got a new frame under warranty from Peter / XMCarbonSpeed. Received the frame today, nicely padded inside what almost felt like an empty box. Naked weight is 1034g. It's got a few updates compared to the old one.
-The cable stop for the front derailleur has been fixed, will now accomodate ferrule with no problems. Tested with Jagwire metal ferrule.
-It's got a chain suck protector.
-The guide tube for the rear brake is black.
-The screws for the cable stops for internal routing are black.

It still has the cable stop for the rear derailleur on the right side, imo would be much better looking if it was on the left side. Now, on to the building. Not going to be much different from my first as I'll just transplant the parts. Going to try a few parts from Wolf Tooth and one from SRAM though.

Sorry for my absence in this thread, been a busy summer. However. Good news everyone! I contacted Peter with a picture of the crack, he requested som additional pictures which I provided. Long story short, a replacement frame is now on its way - the only expense from my side being shipping for the new frame. Impressive service from Peter.

Will be interesting to see if the front derailleur cable stop has been fixed as well (although I don't use it). Have anyone tried fitting a KS Lev 272 to this frame? It seems that the internal routing along the top tube would be perfect for the dropper's cable.

Looks to be more than just paint, at least the first few outer layers of carbon appears to have cracked as well.  You might want to start looking into a warranty replacement.

Wondering what size is your frame? I noticed that the 041 has seat stay reinforcement for some sizes.

Size is 19". It does indeed have the smallish tube coming from top of the seat tube to the top tube.

Went to a race yesterday with my cs-041, through some pretty rough stuff i came down hard on my saddle and heard a crack from the rear of my bike, happened once again later in the ride. Thinking it may have been the seatpost slipping in the seat tube i thought nothing of it then. Now after cleaning the bike i notice a horizontal crack has formed just where the seat tube intersects with the top tube/seat stays. Would this merely be a crack in the paint due to flex or is it a sign of possible structural failure in the area?

How much did that frame set you back? If you don't mind sharing.

Frame was 550 dollars, 90 dollars shipping. Prices change though, best ask Peter for the current price.

Off topic but I see what looks to be the top of a fence in that pic (and I doubt you'd be carrying whatever it that your using for a stand on the trails) is that your backyard? If so, that's frkn sweet!

Also, yeah, this is the frame to get now. Sweet build.

Post ride update. No issues so far, immediately it seems to dampen more small bumps than my previous alu hardtail. This might be thanks to the very flexible seatpost I got alongside the frame though.

I got a question regarding the headset - I mentioned I had some play in my first post. Well, that wasn't supposed to be there, I wrongly installed a 41mm top bearing. The correct bearings for this frame are 41.8mm/45degree top and 52mm/45degree bottom integrated.

It's 142x12 rear only by the way. The non driveside dropout is molded(?), not replaceable. Compatible axles would be E-thru standard.

Looks great!  Thanks for the post.  I think this is the frame to get over the 256 right now.   Both weigh the same, but he CS-041 appears to have slightly better features (like the swappable cable stops) and build quality seems a bit better (some the the 256's are rough around the edges like on the bottom bracket cable cover).  Also, the CS-041 solves the issue some have has with the seatstays to seat tube junction.  I really like that you can run cable housing completely through the frame without drilling/modification.  I'm dreading that conversion on my 256, but it's going to need to be done soon.

What size is this, by the way?  It appears the 041 has FAR more stand-over clearance than the more traditional frams like the 057 and 256.

Hello all. Thought I'd share my experience with the 041 as there seems to be so few posts about it.

Purchase: Excellent communication with Peter, frame received 6 days after I got tracking nr. More than enough protection around the frame in the box.

Build: Decided to go with the new Shimano M8000 XT 1x11 group. No trouble at all building it up. Bottom bracket was nicely finished inside, Shimano BB92 cups pressed snugly into place. Using Cane Creek 40 headset there is a little (1mm) play from the top bearing before it is tightened, this disappeared once it was tightened. If I was to install a front derailleur I'd have to grind/sand one side of the ferrule by a fraction of a millimeter because of the rivets securing the cable stop being too large. Really cool that the frame comes with replaceable covers for the front so there won't be any open holes when running 1x. I might use a little loctite on the screws securing the covers so they won't shake loose. No problems at all routing cables for the rear. The frame comes with optional covers for using full length housing if needed.

Good to hear that your frame is holding up. I just got mine - of the frames I've bought from far east this is the nicest one by far in terms of finish. Can't wait to build it up, will probably post some pictures once it's finished.
A couple things so far.
a) I noticed the same as you with the cable stop for the front derailleur. The rivets are too big, this is with Shimano SP41 housing with standard plastic end caps. Not a big deal for me as I'll build it as 1x, probably not a problem 2x either with some sand paper and patience. This would be an easy fix at the factory though.
b) Cool that the frame comes with inserts for 1x or full length housing.

c) There is a large-ish hole right above the right side bottom bracket - anyone know what that's for? A rubber cap that fits snugly into the hole comes with the frame.
