29er / Re: Full suspension build
« on: May 27, 2021, 08:33:52 AM »
Have you ridden full-suspension bikes before?  If not, have you ridden both XC and trail hardtails?  Do you have an idea of what geometry you'd want?  The FM909, FM936, and S3 that Schumo mentioned have great reviews, they're super light, fast, and aggressive.  They are pretty progressive geometry, though, which can be good or bad depending on your preferences.  They will have a longer reach, steeper seat tube angle, and slacker head tube angle than your average XC bike (although the newest name-brand XC bikes are starting to go that way too).  I have an LCFS911 that I really really like.  It's boost, moderately aggressive (kind of in between FM936 and typical old-school XC geo), and pretty light.  It's maybe 100-300g heavier than some of the other XC frames, but mine came in at 23.2 lbs with a moderate build kit.

As far as the rear shock, just get a shock that matches the eye-to-eye and stroke that the frame takes.  There's regular eyelet and trunnion mounting styles, too.  I personally am a fan of Manitous, so I run a McLeod on one bike and Mara on the other.  Most Chinese direct frames don't come with a shock, and I believe some may come with hardware.  The hardware is usually listed on the specs page, for example my LCFS911 uses M8x22.2mm hardware, so just purchase hardware of that size.

it's been 10 plus years since i've test ridden a full suspension bike.  I've only ridden xc hardtails as that's what i've always ridden and raced.  I love to hate going uphill so not sure I'd want a really slack headtube.  My current race bike is a hardtail with a 69.5 or 68.5 head angle.  I'd say its semi progressive, but still along the lines of xc.  I've seen the video on the Trifox/ Scott full suspensioon I may look into.  What's the difference then with the "regular eyelet and trunnion mounting styles?"  So to answer your question on geometry I'd want it xc or maybe even down country, but like i said, i will be doing xc racing with it.

29er / Full suspension build
« on: May 26, 2021, 08:27:52 AM »
I have a few questions on a full suspension  build.  I've ordered and built up no less them 30 road, mtb hardtails, and cyclocross frames.  I've always used hardtail xc bikes, but want to build a full suspension bike.

I'm not too familiar with full suspension bikes.  I know I'm  late to the game.  My first question is what frames are boost and make a good xc race frame?  My second question is what should I look for and what do I need to know about getting the rear shock
Ideally I'd like to order a frame that includes the rear shock and all bushings and parts needed.

Thanks in advance.

29+ & 27+ / 29er plus crankset...
« on: April 27, 2021, 06:12:14 PM »
I've got this frameset.  It's got a BB92 and I have a Hard Rock crankset off Aliexpress to go with it.  I'm having spacing issues with the crank only having a 1-2 mm spacing between the left chainstay and the crank arm.  I bought a BB92 shimano bottom bracket off amazon.  It doesn't include any spacers.  Does anybody know if I need a spacer on the BB, and will it change the BB width, or do I need a new crankset.  There is a bottom bracket and spacers included with the crankset so I may try that.  This just seems like an oddball match.  Does anybody have this frame and what BB and crankset did you go with?

Does anyone know if a SRAM 11spd Force or Rival CX1 rear derailleur will work with the Sensah shifters, which are basically SRAM shifters.  I put the Sensah on my cx bike and like having the clutch in the SRAM derailleur since my bike is set up as a 1x.

Do you have a regular rear wheel you can use without the thru axle?  Are your hubs the kind you can get adaptors for?  I have spare two bolt ones.

29er / Facing BB shell

Do most of you face the BB shell of ypur new carbon frame?  I've always just faced my non carbon frames with a block and fine sandpaper.  Anybody do this with their frames or just install your outboard bearing BB?

What size is your Workswell frame and how tall are you?  How does the frame handle?  Is it a raceworthy rig?  How does it handle?  This was on my list until I saw the Trident Thrust frame.  I have yet to build it up.  Thanks.  Oh, by the way were you a Marine?

I think any frame you were to order from China with a BSA bb would work.  Some of my fav's are the Trident Thrust($249 including shipping), Tideace(same as Thrust, but only available in PF30 bb), and the Worksell M-062.  I ride and race mostly xc so these are suitable frames for me.  I have yet to build up my Thrust frame.

I've seen a few mention that the Tideace and Thrust are the same.  They do look identical and the geometry are pretty much the same.  The only difference is that Thrust you can get BB30 or BSA, and Trident only in PF30.  I may purchase a PF30 as I already have a BSA Thrust frame.  It is pretty cheap, I may build up another in the PF30.

Ya, it's a good question, but once the cups are pressed in place I'm not sure how often you would be replacing them.  I'm not sure if there's any truth to say BB30, but I've read that on some other press in BB's it actually allows for a stiffer and beefier BB area and thats why they go with press in.  My road bike frame is a BB30 and I'm running Campy Ultra Torque cranks so it needed a different type of press in cup, but regardless, I haven't had any issues or creaks out of my road bike and I've probably got over 5000 miles on it.  The Trident frame is going for $249 shipped, so I may just get one in BB30 as well......LOL!!!!

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / ordering from China.....
« on: August 21, 2018, 06:03:51 AM »
I've ordered a few frames from China.  Can anybody tell me how they really operate?  Does anyone else feel like you order frames and take it with a grain of salt that you will get it or not.  I have not been disappointed yet and everything has came as ordered, but several things I wonder about.  Why do they have so many "agencies" selling frames with different prices?  Is the person you're dealing with really one individual person and is that really their name, I have a feeling it's several people using one name.  The Alibaba website when trying to order frames just seems so confusing.  I will contact suppliers and get emails from my "contact" from another agency and it's like they don't even know who I am.  Why does this not seem more straight forward and is it their goal to confuse me?

29er / BB30 or BSA....
« on: August 21, 2018, 05:44:39 AM »
like the title says, BB30 or BSA.  I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the BB30.  I'm getting ready to order two frames.  I know BSA is just easier to deal with, but are their any drawbacks to using the BSA?  I have a chinese road and cross frame both in BB30, but just curious if anybody has had any issues in the mtb.  What advantages would I have with the BB30 over the BSA?  I'm ordering the Trident Thrust xc frame, and if you have any comments on the frame I'd appreciate those also.

Are you sure these are the same?  They look similar, but have different geometries and the Tideace you can only get in a pressfit BB.

29er / Trident Thrust...

Hi, just wondering if anyone has bought this frameset yet.  I recieved my frame in 27.5, but haven't built it up yet.  I'm now going to order a 29er also.  I believe this has got to be the best deal going right now for the price and free shipping.  The frames I received seem to be off good quality.  Does anybody know the ride quality?  I currently ride a Trek Superfly, but since I can't just have one bike and want to move up to a 29er also I would love to know others experience with it.  This is my first 29er after moving racing all throughout the 90's and early 2000's on 26" mtb.  I just recently got back into the sport on the 27.5 since I liked the transition better the a 29er.  Any comments on this frameset appreciated.  https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/THRUST-mtb-Bicycle-29er-China-mtb_60643554726.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.1.586e241dwVHrjd
