Yes sir.  When buying a headset you really do get what you pay for

Carbonazza - The first headset you posted looks identical to the one that came with my P8.  There really isn't any sort of dust cover on the lower bearing like there is on the top (at least on my p8).  This could be one of the reasons the lowers are failing quicker, water and dirt and can easily get in there.

R_Pierce - The Cane creek you linked, is this the exact headset you ordered for your P8?  I'm not against spending the extra money on a quality bearing as long as it lasts.

Thanks for help guys, greatly appreciated.

Yes it is

I've transferred the same Cane Creek 40 series headset to two frames now...  It's still smooth as butter....  You may be putting too much preload on the bearings?  Or not enough?  You shouldn't be eating headsets.

^^Cool story. I might order their 29er, not sure though as I was hoping to stay 27.5 since I have a decent supply of 27.5 rims/wheels.

Sorry I was mistaken, I got the same quotation. Other sellers have same paypal fee.
I got a quote for an Ican P9 and the EMS is 130usd.... when it used to be 65. They say EMS increased their cost.
If they had this M8 in 19" I would be really tempted to go for it against the Ican, but right now, NO 19" in production.

I noticed Ican is sort pricing themselves higher and higher. Their P8 is at 800 bucks. It's starting to get close to closeout namebrand frames like Intense'''s Spider which is readily available for $1200. On the flip side I just got a BXT SL1 for 240 shipped. And the SL1 is a great cheap as heck road frame and it weighed only 950g.

Exactly why I ended up on an Intense Recluse.  Paid 1000.00 shipped for a 2017 frame.  A couple hundred more than what Ican was quoting me for a P9.

I had talked with them about this frame roughly 8-10 months ago, pre mold making.  They actually asked if I saw anything with the original CAD drawing that I thought could use improvement.  I had quite a few conversations with them prior about another bike.  Anyways I told them that it needed a little more reach which it looks like they actually did correct.  Or at least on their cad drawing.

I'll have to see if I still have the email with the initial cad drawing model that they sent me.

You can measure the seat angle yourself by using a ruler or other long straight object and run it from the center of the BB to the center of the seat post at the top.

Mine  measured about 73 degrees measuring to the center of the seat post at ride height for me.  So pretty slack.  Measuring how bikes are measured (top of head tube level to where it intersects the seat tube) its 74 degrees just as stated.

Also, why wouldnt you just buy the adapters for the rear wheel?  There is no way the drop outs are setting in their square without pinching the frame.  Its not possible.  The bikes designed for a 148 drop out spacing, not 142.  Thats a 6mm (nearly 1/4 inch) difference.

To each their own I guess.

You can see all the way down the head tube and inside of the down tube if you remove the fork.  The layup on these is just as strong any any other IMO.

Its stressing the carbon and will only get worse when you ride it.  Yes, they flex.  But they are designed to support load at 148mm spec.  I wouldnt personally risk that myself without knowing any long term effects.  But with that said, to each their own  8)

-Front fork - Manitou Mattoc hands down (I still think you should shoot for the Pro version, its a fork that you will have for YEARS to come)
-Stem - Personal preference here but I go with the shortest stem that you can.  Closer it is to the steerer tube the more control you have IMO.  I would go with a 30 or 40mm but definitely nothing longer than 50mm.  I have a renthal stem, but my next one will likely be an Answer stem (Im a Hayes fanboi)
-Handle bars and grips - Again, anything will work here.  Look for at least a 20mm rise.  760mm minimum width IMO.  I run 785 and wont go any narrower.  Personally run carbon Raceface SixC bars.  Next ones will be Protaper bars from Answer.  Grips I like the ESI rubber grips.  But plan to try and new ODI Gwin grips.
-Front and rear tires - since you went with 40mm rims, you will need to go with plus tires here.  I am/was a Maxxis fan (Minion DHR/DHF) but decided to get some Michelin tires this time around (standard 27.5 though)  I can say that I was not happy with my Schwalbe Nobby Nics.  Both in the amount of tire roll and the tread life.
-Dropper seat post - The TransX is a nice piece if on a budget.  Or the new Manitou Jack (this will be what I get next, but again, Im a fanboi)
-Seat - WTB saddle of any type.  Just get the width that fits your sit bones.  Im running a WTB Team edition Titanium rail saddle right now.  And love it.

I think the same. Then you check the Reach and it is ok. The head angle is 65° and the seat tube 75°, which explains why the TT is so short. I believe it will be a good downhiller...

74* STA.  Still doesnt add up.

Nice one. I've always had a soft spot for Intense.

Sorry, another question: What was the BB shell width on the P8?

traditional 68/73mm BSA BB.
