29er / IP-036 Build
« on: May 13, 2015, 11:15:39 PM »
Just completed my ip-036.. picked it up from peter's new company..

It went together no harder than my 057 .. except for the shock bushings.. with all the options out there i decided to use RWS in the back and made my own out of delrin in the front.

Anyways..

XT group set 2x10
Thomson stem/seatpost/seatpost collar
RockShox SID RCT3 120mm
Fox CTD shock
eggbeaters
RARAs
my old beat up seat
Carbon handlebar that i got from Carbon_Dude awhile ago
ESI extra chunky grips

Wheels:
HR930C (from peter also)
DT Swiss 350 straight pull hubs 15mm axle front .. 142x12 rear
Sapim cx-ray spokes
alu nipples w/washers (used prematex copper antisize on the threads)

FYI you need a E2 type front derailuer.
I did find the rear suspension to be very fluid and no binding. I did make sure there was a bit of grease on the pivot points and threadlocked the bolts down..

Have not ridden it yet.. other than around the sub... Might go tomorrow..

I did not weight it but i am guessing about high 25lbs..

I have a 057 19" frame.. would a 036 19" be the correct frame?

Also what kind of shimano front derailuer would that need?

thx

29er / IP-057 Build
« on: September 30, 2014, 10:05:35 AM »
I have just completed my IP-057 (from iPlay)..

Build is as follows:

XT groupset (w/180mm Icetech rotors.. i am fat so i need all the help i can get)
Thomson seat/stem
IPLAY carbon bar
IPLAY headset
SEAT (old clunker i had laying around.. will replace shortly)
IP-057 BSA / 19" / 142x12
Fork IPLAY IP-FK-052
Tires RARA 2.2 (yes i know i have a set of SB8 on it but it will be removed later).. I am running tubes.. never made the switch to tubeless
Rims Light Bicycle RM2902
Spokes DT Swiss Revo
Nipples DT Swiss Alloy (i did use nipple washers from bikehubstore)
Hubs BikeHubstore F:MTB180  R:MTB270

total weight (on a digital bathroom scale) 21.8 lbs

Ride impressions:

This thing just wants to roll.. it seems like it has a motor on it on the downhills
On the smooth flat sections it seems really planted just turn and it turns feels like it is on rails.
Climbs like a goat.. it is ridiculous.
When it gets really rooty/rocky it is a rough ride.. gotta learn to pick good lines.. might be something to do with me running tubes @ 33psi (again i need to loose a few lbs)..

Build:

Ugg had to break the lines and i spilled too much fluid so i had to bleed the rear line..
Other than that it was nothing fancy just went together with no other issues.
Wheels came out ~1570grams and built fairly easy.

Things i would have changed:

Tires: something a bit wider..
Other than that nothing.

i did not like the one that came with my IP-057 frame it was a loose fit. I made up two of them already. (one for me)..

I imagine they are the same as the ip-256 frame.

Any interest in them? if there is i can make up more of them.

I can also do front axles also but dont currently have aluminum that size.

I am pricing them at $5 + shipping

Note i am not a professional machinist

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Dengfu FM29A
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:05:25 PM »
Even though i am MTB'f at heart i picked up a chiner roadbike. My old road bike (Felt F1) had a crack in the head tube. I was looking for a replacement frame and settled on a Dengfu FM29A.

http://dengfubikes.com/product/detail.php?id=125

I got the 3k gloss with a bb30 and ordered out their headset along with the frame.

The order process was easy and just took a few emails and it was on it's way. Shipping took about 2 weeks to get to Michigan.

I transferred my old components (old tri-color shimano 600). I had to get an adapter to  convert the bottom bracket over. Everything went together very well no surprises. Just a bit of a learning curve for the carbon fork but other than that it was cake.

The ride is a bit stiff but it does like to climb. Sorry i dont have a scale but it was about 2.5lbs. I am very happy with the outcome. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.
