Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Miracle Bike and Thru Axle CX Frame
« on: May 09, 2015, 01:06:34 PM »
Right, the time is approaching for another chinese carbon build.

I am looking for a 15x100, 12x142 cyclocross frame.  The only vendor I can find that claims to have them is Miracle Bike.  Has anyone any experience of them?  Does anyone know any other vendor selling what I want?

Thanks guys!

After The Ride / A little Rockshox Axle to Crown Trivia
« on: February 09, 2015, 05:45:42 AM »
This may or not be news but I was surprised....

When I was researching my Venture build I was trying to calculate where I would have to run my stem to maintain my position on the bike.  I thought I had better compare Axle to Crown measurements for the forks I was currently using (26 "Reba 100's) and my intended forks (27.5" SIDs or Reba 100's).  I had always assumed that as they are supposed to use the same basic construction that they would be the same but this is what I found..

                    26"      27.5"    29"
Reba 100           493      507      526
SID   100     473      487      506

20mm is quite a lot, equating IIRC to about 1 degree change in head tube angle.  I would imagine this would have a significant impact if head angle was already steep or slack.

When a frame is measured what axle to crown measurement, I wonder, are the angles based on?  Is there a standard?

After The Ride / 26" XC FS Frame?
« on: February 09, 2015, 05:34:41 AM »
Now that I'm finished with my hardtail build and generally impressed with the Carbonal frame I have started thinking about my next project.  I know that later in the year, finances allowing, I'd like to put together a CX bike although it's unclear whether the frame I want is available or not.  In the meantime I was thinking of trying to replace my Ellsworth frame with a carbon one.  It weighs about 27lbs at the moment and that's with full XTR 970, XTR Wheels and mostly Thomson kit (Reba forks tho).

I'd need a relatively lightweight 26" frame with 135mm QR dropouts, convert XTR to single ring, replace shifter, derailleur, cassette and OneUp.

I guess I might also need a new shock.  The one I have is an RP23 200mm E2E.

Any thoughts, advice?

After The Ride / Handlebar / Top tube damage
« on: January 31, 2015, 01:39:48 AM »
What do people do to avoid this?
Surely not everyone can manage to setup their bars to avoid some part of the levers etc hitting the toptube in the event of a crash?
Why is there not a proliferation of limiting devices or headsets out there?  Canyon incorporate one on their bikes.

Any ideas other than wrapping the toptube?

26er & 27.5 (650b) / Carbonal Venture SL budget lightweight 1x10 build
« on: January 18, 2015, 01:47:18 PM »
So I pulled the trigger on a new 650b hardtail build and ordered a Venture SL frame and assorted bits from Carbonality.

The theme of this build could be descibed as budget, lightweight, 1 x 10, XC Race, black.  While I'm waiting for stuff to arrive I might expand on it further, along with some other background information and opinions that you can skip or, if you're bored, read.

Build list;
Venture SL 650b, 19", threaded BB, 12x142mm dropouts.
Rockshox SID RLT forks Pushloc 15x100mm
Crest Rims on DT350 hubs, DT comp spokes
XT Brake Levers and Calipers
XTR rear shifter
XT rear mech with OneUp RADr cage
XT 10-36 cassette with OneUp 42 and 16 tooth sprockets
OneUp 34 tooth wide/narrow chainring
XT Cranks and Bottom Bracket
Shimano XT HG95 Chain
Seatpost, Flat bars, Headset and Rear Axle from Carbonality too
Stem Crank Brothers Iodine 2, 80mm, 6 degree
Saddle Selle Italia XC SLR Ti
Grips Ergon GS2
Tyres  Schwalbe Rocket Ron 2.1 Snakeskin
Pedals Time Atac XC 8

Everything was bought at reduced prices and my final choice on forks, saddle and wheels was flexible depending on what deals were on offer.  All the rest was bought at the cheapest price possible.  The stem was simply the cheapest on sale 80mm 6 degree stem I could find as I have no idea what stem I will need to achieve my desired stack/reach.

Hi All,
As per the title.  I am thinking of buying a frame and some bits from them.

Thanks
